Petrogenesis of the Lunar volcanic glasses and Mg-suite:constraints on a post-magma-ocean cumulate overturn

The lunar volcanic glasses and Mg-suite rocks represent the early enigmatic episodes of lunar magmatism.Due to the gravitational instability of the Fe-Ti enriched(±KREEP)layer,which is formed at the later stage of fractional crystallization,a post-magma-ocean cumulate overturn occurred contemporaneously or near-contemporaneously with the lunar magma ocean(LMO)solidification.The radioactive elements within the KREEP layer were transferred downward and provided continuous energy for the partial melting of the Moon’s interior.The melt from the Moon’s interior and those from decompression melting,in turn,provide source magma for the origin of lunar volcanic glasses and Mg-suite.However,experimental and theoretical studies on the formation process of lunar volcanic glasses and Mg-suite show that the origin of their parental magma is poorly constrained,which largely depends on the initial depth and composition of the LMO.This review examines the mineralogy,petrogenesis,and distribution of lunar volcanic glasses and Mg-suite.Combining with existing models,we constrain the degree,distribution,and timescale of lunar mantle overturn and explore their relationship with later stages of LMO differentiation.We propose an updated chemical composition of the lunar interior,which provides a useful reference for estimating the bulk composition and early differentiation of the Moon and the early Earth.

Do cratons preserve evidence of stagnant lid tectonics?

Evidence for episodic crustal growth extending back to the Hadean has recently prompted a number of numerically based geodynamic models that incorporate cyclic changes from stagnant lid to mobile lid tectonics. A large part of the geologic record is missing for the times at which several of these cycles are inferred to have taken place. The cratons, however, are likely to retain important clues relating to similar cycles developed in the Mesoarchean and Neoarchean. Widespread acceptance of a form of plate tectonics by ～3.2 Ga is not at odds with the sporadic occurrence of stagnant lid tectonics after this time. The concept of scale as applied to cratons, mantle plumes and Neoarchean volcanic arcs are likely to provide important constraints on future models of Earth's geodynamic evolution. The Superior Province will provide some of the most concrete evidence in this regard given that its constituent blocks may have been locked into a stagnant lid relatively soon after their formation and then assembled in the next global plate tectonic interval. Perceived complexities associated with inferred mantle plume — volcanic arc associations in the Superior Province and other cratons may be related to an over estimation of plume size. A possible stagnant lid episode between ～2.9 Ga and ～2.8 Ga is identified by previously unexplained lapses in volcanism on cratons, including the Kaapvaal, Yilgarn and Superior Province cratons. If real, then mantle dynamics associated with this episode likely eliminated any contemporaneous mantle plume incubation sites, which has important implications for widespread plumes developed at ～2.7 Ga and favours a shallow mantle source in the transition zone. The Superior Province provides a uniquely preserved local proxy for this global event and could serve as the basis for detailed numerical models in the future.

Taxi: overturning and Mocking Orthodox Patriarchy

Traditional movies feature men who are strong, powerful, intelligent, resourceful, women just being passive roles to facilitate the characterization of active men roles, even if the male characters are characterized as villains. The purpose of the arrangement of female characters in movies is to drive the narrative of the plot, to position female characters as the object of gaze so as to provide sexual pleasure for male spectators. This traditional characterization of females in movies is the representation of the orthodox patriarchy, intentionally or unintentionally. Whereas, analyzing from the perspective of male gaze, the movie, Taxi, completely overturns and mocks the orthodox patriarchy. The key character in the movie is Belle, a skillful female taxi driver, played by Queen Latifah. The male character, Andy Washburn, is characterized as being awkward, unmanly and uncollected, in need of help from Belle. This essay analyzes the characterization of the key characters in the movie to illustrate how it overturns and mocks the orthodox patriarchy.
