Early Warning System of Risk in Dairy Cows with Inactive ovaries

The incidence of Inactive ovaries of dairy cows in China is relatively high. There is no complete early warning system for the occurrence of ovarian quiescence in clinical cows. This test provides early warning indicators for clinical prediction of ovary cessation in dairy cows. This experiment selected blood samples of dairy cows from 60 to 90 days postpartum in the inactive ovaries group and control group. Differential proteins were selected on the basis of proteomics, three energy indexes: AST, Glu, NEFA. Four reproductive hormones: E2, P4, FSH, LH, and four differentially expressed proteins: IGFBP-2, AHSG, APO-A4, and RBP-4. Key enzyme activities: ALDOB, LDHB, ITIH3, GPX3, SPAM1, PKM2. The ELISA test kit was used to detect the content and activity of the above markers in the test bovine serum. Through correlation analysis, binary logistic regression modeling and ROC analysis, a single indicator early warning technique for APOA4 and ITIH3 was established. The early warning values were APOA4 > 28.825 μg/L and ITIH3 > 195.07 ng/L. A multi-index early warning system based on potential biomarkers of APOA4 + ITIH3 and APOA4 + ITIH3 + E2 was established. The former had an early warning value of: APOA4 > 19.55 μg/I;ITIH3 > 191.14 ng/L;the latter has an early warning value: APOA4 > 47.56 μg/L, ITIH4 > 187.80 ng/L, E2 < 69.63 ng/L.

Rare Infantile Inguinal Hernia Containing Uterus, ovaries and Fallopian Tubes—A Case Report: Presentation from Yemen

The presence of ovaries and fallopian tubes in the sac of female inguinal hernia is rare especially in childhood. However, complete herniation of the uterus side by side with ovaries and tubes constitutes extreme rarity. We herein present a 6-years old female patient whose inguinal hernia contains uterus in addition to ovaries and fallopian tubes. The aim of this report is to attract attention of surgeons to this rare possibility during surgical management of hernia in order to avoid the likely damage to herniated structures.

Sonographic evaluation of mullerian anomalies in women with polycystic ovaries

Background: Mullerian anomalies are relatively common and contributing to the problems of infertility and poor pregnancy outcomes. But their molecular pathophysiology has been insufficiently studied. On the other hand, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is found in nearly 80% of women with hyperandrogenism and also in 8%-25% of normal ones. It seems that anti-mullerian hormone (AMH) which inhibits the formation of the mullerian ducts in male increases in women with PCOS. Therefore, the aim of the study is whether PCOS is associated with mullerian anomalies. Methods: In this case-control study, 83 women with PCOS and 83 cases without PCOS were evaluated with transvaginal ultrasound (TVS) for the diagnosis of mullerian anomalies. The results of each group were compared with other groups. Results: In the PCOS patients, TVS revealed mullerian anomalies in the uterine cavity in 29 out of 83 women. Among 29 patients who had lesions in their uterine cavity, 27 cases had septate uterus and two had arcuate uterus. In the healthy women, TVS revealed 6 septate uterus and 4 arcuate uterus abnormality cases of the uterine cavity. There were significant correlation between polycystic ovary syndrome of the patients and the mullerian anomalies lesions (i.e. septate and arcuate uterus) which were seen in them. Conclusion: Mullerian anomalies were more common in women with PCOS and the most common anomaly was uterine septum. In fact, the present results revealed that it seemed a cause-effect relationship between the mullerian anomalies and PCO syndrome may in fact exist.

The range of the Greenland halibut Reinhardtius hippoglossoides(Walbaum,1792)includes vast areas in the northern parts of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans,as well as the seas of the Arctic *** its commercial importance and decades of study,many aspects of its life cycle and reproduction remain poorly ***,we evaluate the size distribution of Greenland halibut in the catches of research surveys in the Barents,Kara,and Laptev seas and conduct micro-and macroscopic studies of their gonads in the Laptev *** size of Greenland halibut individuals increases from west to east,which is associated with the settling of pelagic juveniles and the subsequent residency of growing individuals near their settling *** the greatest extent,this size imbalance is manifested in the areas most remote from spawning grounds,*** Kara and Laptev *** process of maturation in large individuals of Greenland halibut in the Arctic seas is characterized by a state of inhibitionwaiting in the early stages of gametogenesis(previtellogenesis).The data obtained indicate that Greenland halibut in the North Atlantic and the Siberian Arctic have a continuous *** continental slope of the Barents Sea is a spawning and maturing ground,while the northern parts of the Barents and Kara seas,as well as the continental slope of the Laptev Sea,are feeding grounds for *** results of this study might serve as a necessary basis for monitoring condition of halibut stocks as well as for reallocation of the total allowable catch between countries that exploited them in the Norwegian and Barents seas.

The potential of standardized quassinoid-rich extract of Eurycoma longifolia in the regulation of the oestrous cycle of rats

Objective: To evaluate the effects of Eurycoma longifolia(E. longifolia) standardized extract on the oestrous cycle, levels of reproductive hormones and histology of the ovaries of Sprague-Dawley ***: Female rats were orally treated with E. longifolia standardized extract at the dose levels of 2.5, 5.0, 10.0, 25.0, 50.0 and 100.0 mg/kg of body weight over 5 *** smears were monitored daily within the duration and after withdrawal of the treatment before being sacrificed. The body weights of the females were recorded before and after the 5 days treatment. At the end of the experiments, blood samples were collected for determination of testosterone, oestradiol and progesterone levels. ovaries were removed, weighed and examined for histomorphological ***: The administration of E. longifolia standardized extract did not significantly alter the oestrous cycle of the rats during the 5 days treatment and after withdrawal of the treatments. This was supported by normal testosterone, oestradiol and progesterone levels as well as normal morphology of the ***: The data obtained showed that E. longifolia standardized extract did not exhibit any toxic effect on reproductive activities of female rats suggesting potential use in the management of infertility.

Changes in the Ovarian Polyamine Content and Seed Set Efficiency of Cotton by the Plant Growth Regulator BM86

Naturally occurring polyamines in plants have been implicated in floral initiation, and fruit development. The plant growth regulator BM86 was formulated to stimulate seed production and fruit growth by enhancing polyamine synthe-sis. The objectives of this study were to determine the effect of BM86 on free polyamine content in cotton (Gos-sypium hirsutum L.) ovaries and on seed set efficiency, and also to investigate genotypic differences in ovarian polyamine content. BM86 was applied at the first flower stage and two weeks later at 2.34 mL/ha. This study showed that application of BM86 had a significant positive effect on ovarian polyamine content of cotton. Putrescine and sper-midine one week after the 1st BM86 application and putrescine two week after the 1st BM86 application, were significantly increased compared to the untreated control. Higher seed set efficiency with the BM86 application was observed when the total number of seeds was used for the calculation. However, when the number of harvestable seeds was used to calculate seed set efficiency BM86 had no significant effect. In addition, application of BM86 did not significantly alter seedcotton yield of the crop. Only small differences in ovarian polyamine content were detected among the genotypes tested, possibly due to the narrow genetic pool of the commercial cotton genotypes used. Application of BM86 can significantly increase cotton seed number by enhancing polyamines biosynthesis, but further research is needed to determine how to capitalize on the increased potential number of harvestable seeds.

Prevalence and characteristics of polycystic ovarian syndrome in a sample of infertile Kurdish women attending IVF infertility center in maternity teaching hospital of Erbil City

Objective: To estimate the prevalence of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), and to compare the clinical, hormonal and ultrasonography features between infertile women with or without PCOS. Design: A descriptive, comparative study. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted from May 1, 2007 to August 1, 2008, in the Infertility Care and IVF center in Maternity Teaching Hospital, Erbil city, Kurdistan region, North ofIraq. A total of 320 infertile women aged 18 - 45 years, were evaluated for clinical features (oligo-/amenorrhea, hirsutism), body mass index, waist-hip ratio (WHR) and hormonal measures. Transvaginal ultrasonography was used to assess the ovarian morphology. The Rotterdam 2003 criteria adopted by the European Society for Human reproduction and Embryology and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine were used to diagnose cases of PCOS. Data analysis was performed using the SPSS version 15. Results: The prevalence of PCOS was 33%. There were a significant differences between the two groups in terms of oligo-/amenorrhea, hirsutism, WHR, and ovarian ultrasound features. There were no significant differences between the two groups in correlations between the level of obesity with the incidences of anovulation, hyperandrogenemia and hirsutism or with hormonal features. Conclusions: A high prevalence rate of PCOS was observed among infertile women attending IVF center using the Rotterdam 2003 criteria for diagnosis.

Ovarian malignancy is a serious disease affecting women of all ages, more so above 50 years, and they are still difficult to treat, partly because no truly effective therapy has yet been developed although presentation is often vague and non-specific, the symptoms are definitely present. It is important to recognize the symptoms so far, there is no test yet available, which is truly specific and suitable for screening and early detection of epithelial ovarian carcinoma. So, it is concluded that for prognosis and patient survival, early detection and treatment is mandatory.
