Quality characterization of tight sandstone reservoirs in the Yanchang Formation of the Honghe oilfield, ordos basin, central China

Reservoir quality is one of the important geological factors controlling the development of tight oil in the Honghe oilfield,ordos basin,northwestern *** of core,well logging,mud logging and geophysical data as well as thin sections(casting and fluorescence)were combined with testing methods(such as grain size analysis,constant-rate mercury injection,and scanning electron microscopy)to characterize the microporeethroat development in reservoirs of the eighth member of Yanchang For-mation in the *** the perspective of sedimentation and diagenesis,the mechanisms causing reservoir quality difference were explored and a method for characterizing reservoir quality difference and distribution was *** results show that complex and diverse poreethroat configurations and multi-scale throat development are the microscale manifestations of reservoir quality differences in the *** types of poreethroat combinations are recognized,including intergranular pore-wide lamellar throat,intergranular and intragranular pore-wide lamellar throat,and intergranular/clustered micropore-wide lamellar *** diagenesis processes and intensities under the control of sedimentary conditions determine the differential development of the *** facies are the indicators of reservoir *** facies with chlorite cementation-moderate dissolution indicates reservoirs with the most ideal physical properties for hydrocarbon accumulation,while that with moderate calcite and kaolinite cementations are usually observed in reservoirs with less ideal physical *** with the worst physical properties often correlate with diagenetic facies with strong calcite cementation and compaction facies.A multi-level constrained method under the control of sedimentation and diagenetic facies is proposed for characterizing tight reservoir quality difference in the *** spatial distribution of sedimentary elements is analyzed t

The major enrichment type of shale oil in the Chang 7_(3) shale of Upper Triassic Yanchang Formation in the ordos basin is *** paper analyzes the organic matter transformation ratio,hydrocarbon expulsion efficiency and roof/floor sealing conditions of the Chang 7_(3) shale,and evaluates the major enrichment type of shale oil in this *** average organic matter transformation ratio of the Chang 7_(3) shale is about 45%;in other words,more than 50%of the organic matters have not transformed to hydrocarbons,and the lower the maturity,the greater the proportion of untransformed organic *** cumulative hydrocarbon expulsion efficiency of the transformed hydrocarbon is 27.5% on average,and the total proportion of untransformed organic matters plus retained hydrocarbons is greater than 70%.The relative hydrocarbon expulsion efficiency of the Chang 7_(3) shale is 60%on average,that is,about 40% of hydrocarbons retain in the *** Chang 7_(3) shale corresponds to Chang 7_(1+2) and Chang 8 sandstones as the roof and floor,respectively,and is further overlaid by Chang 6 shale,where extensive low porosity and low permeability–tight oil reservoirs have formed in the parts with relatively good porosity and ***,the Chang 7_(3) shale is tested to be in a negative pressure system(the pressure coefficient of 0.80–0.85).Therefore,the roof/floor sealing conditions of the Chang 7_(3) shale are *** retained hydrocarbons appear mostly in absorbed status,with low *** is concluded that the medium–high mature shale oil is not the major enrichment type of shale oil in the Chang 7_(3) shale,but there may be enrichment opportunity for shale oil with good mobility in the areas where the sealing conditions are good without faults and fractures and oil reservoirs are formed off Chang 7_(1+2),Chang 6 and Chang ***,low–medium mature shale oil is believed to have great potential and is the major enrichment type of shale oil in the C

Through core observation,thin section identification,and logging and testing data analysis,the types and characteristics of event deposits in the ninth member of Yanchang Formation of Triassic(Chang 9 Member)in southwestern ordos basin,China,are *** are 4 types and 9 subtypes of event deposits,***,gravity flow,volcanic and anoxic deposits,in the Chang 9 Member in the study *** on the analysis of the characteristics and distribution of such events deposits,it is proposed that the event deposits are generally symbiotic or associated,with intrinsic genetic relations and distribution *** kinds of sedimentary microfacies with relatively developed event deposits are identified,and the genetic model of event deposits is *** are mainly developed in the lake transgression stage when the basin expands episodically,and commonly affected by liquefaction flow,gravity action and brittle shear *** flow,mainly distributed in the high water level period,sandwiched in the fine-grained sediments of prodelta or semi-deep lake,or creates banded or lobate slump turbidite *** is relatively developed above the seismites *** volcanic event deposits are only seen in the lower part of the Chang 9 Member,showing abrupt contact at the top and bottom,which reflects the volcanic activity at the same *** deposits are mostly formed in the late stage of lake transgression to the highstand *** thick organic-rich shales are developed in the highstand stage of Chang 9 Member,and the event deposits in the depositional period of these shales are conducive to potential reservoirs.

The reservoirs in the seventh member of the Triassic Yanchang Formation (Chang 7 Member) in the Qingcheng Oilfield of the ordos basin are characterized by thin sandbody, tight rocks, high heterogeneity, low formation pressure coefficient, and complex geomorphology. Through the efforts in the stages of exploration, appraisal, pilot testing and development, a series of key technologies have been formed, including “sweet spot” optimization, differentiated three-dimensional well deployment, fast drilling and completion of large-cluster horizontal well, intensively-staged volume fracturing in long horizontal well, and optimization of rational production system. Furthermore, a production organization mode represented by factory-like operations on loess platform has been implemented. Application of these technologies has enabled to significantly improve the single-well production of the Qingcheng Oilfield, reduce the investment cost, and realize a large-scale and beneficial development at a full cost below $55 per barrel. In 2022, the annual production of Chang 7 shale oil in the ordos basin reached 221×10^(4) t, accounting for 70% of the annual shale oil production of China. The practice of development technologies in the Qingcheng Oilfield provides valuable references for efficient development of continental shale oil.

Comparisons have been made among lithology, diagenesis, and reservoir characteristics of gas-bearing and non-gas-bearing ones in the Sulige gas field of the ordos basin based on the laboratory analysis of thin sections, scanning electron microscope, and liquid inclusion of the reservoirs. The reservoirs of the Sulige gas field are now in the middle stage of diagenesis and have undergone compaction, cementation and dissolution. The secondary pore of the reservoir originated from the dissolution of the feldspar and tuff because of the organic acid action from the source rocks during the diagenetic middle stage. Gas-bearing reservoirs are common in soluble pore diagenetic facies of coarse detritus quartzose sandstone, whereas non-gas-bearing ones are common in tense compaction diagenetic facies of mud-bearing medium-fine detritus quartzose sandstone and residual intergranular pore diagenetic facies of mud-bearing medium-coarse detritus quartzose sandstone. The secondary pore is developed in gas-bearing reservoirs of the Sulige gas-field as the medium-coarse grain reservoirs formed in a powerful sedimentary environment and experienced strong dissolution. However, the sediments of fine grain size form the non-gas-bearing reservoirs because of less residual primary pore and secondary pore.

Distribution, evolution and structural properties of Wushenqi paleo-uplift in ordos basin, NW China

This paper depicts the distribution of the Wushenqi paleo-uplift in the ordos basin by using the latest drilling and seismic data, and analyzes the tectonic evolution of the paleo-uplift with the support of Bischke curve and balanced section. The compressional Wushenqi paleo-uplift which developed in the Early Caledonian orogeny(Huaiyuan orogeny) is approximately a ellipse extending in S-N direction. Its long axis is about 194 km and short axis is about 55-94 km in nearly W-E direction. The denudation thickness and area of the Cambrian in the core are 170-196 m and 11 298 km^(2), respectively. It was mainly formed during the Huaiyuan orogeny according to the chronostratigraphic framework. It was in the embryonic stage in the Middle-Late Cambrian, denuded after developed obviously at the end of Late Cambrian. The paleo-uplift of the 3rd member of the Ordovician Majiagou Formation was reactivated and reduced in area. In the sedimentary period of the Ma 4 Member-pre-Carboniferous, the paleo-uplift experienced non-uniform uplift and denudation. It entered the stable period of burial and preservation in the Carboniferous and later period. The Wushenqi paleo-uplift was formed on the weak area of the basement and tectonic belts, into an compressional structure with irregular morphology, under the control of the non-coaxial compression in the south and north and the stress transmitted by the uplift in the basin. The Wushenqi paleo-uplift has a controlling effect on the sedimentary reservoirs and hydrocarbon accumulation.

The Shanxi Formation(Shan 1 and Shan 2 Members)shales show good prospects in shale gas development in the Yan'an area of ordos *** on the simulation experiment of hydrocarbon generation of low maturity shale samples,the hydrocarbon generation characteristics of shale samples was studied ***,combined with the geochemical analysis of shale and gas generation simulation,shale gas potential was *** results reveal that Shan 1 and Shan 2 shale samples are favorable for shale gas enrichment by and large,with C_(1)-C_(5) maximum yields of 146.96-160.83 mg/g TOC and 148.48-148.67 mg/g TOC respectively at a heat rate of 20℃/h and 2℃/*** Shan 1 and Shan 2 shales are basically the same in terms of organic carbon production potential of each *** carbon isotopic composition of alkane gas reveals that heteroatomic compounds(NSOs)cracking is an important mechanism for shale gas generation of Shanxi Formation shales,and conducive to gas generation at highto over-mature *** thermal history and kinetic parameters of hydrocarbon generation,the shales of Shanxi Formation reached the maximum gas production potential in the Late Cretaceous,with a maximum yield of 160.3 mg/g TOC under present geological *** geological history,the Shanxi Formation shales went through high-to over-maturity evolution,mainly producing dry gas,and their gas generation capacity was controlled by the organic matter abundance and cracking *** gas generation potential of Shan 2 shale is higher than that of Shan 1,due to its higher TOC.

Genetic Relationship between Natural Gas Dispersal Zone and Uranium Accumulation in the Northern ordos basin, China

The ordos basin is well-known for the coexistence of oil, natural gas, coal and uranium. However, there has been little research to discuss the genetic relationship between them. In this paper, a case study of the Zaohuohao area in Dongsheng, Inner Mongolia, China, is conducted to investigate the genetic relationship between the natural gas and the uranium accumulation. Fluid inclusion data from the uranium-bearing sandstone samples indicate that the fluid inclusions formed in a gas-water transition zone. Using the homogeneous temperatures of aqueous inclusions coeval with hydrocarbon-bearing inclusions, combined with the buried history and paleo-temperature data, the gas-water transition zone reached the area at about 110 Ma. On the basis of this, the contents of Uranium （U） and Total Organic Carbon （TOC） of the samples were analyzed, and there was no obvious relation between them. With regard to the available data from both publications and this study, it is found that the U mineralization has a spatiotemporal accordance with the gas-water dispersal zone. Thus, it is believed that the natural gas in the gas-water zone is an effective reducer to the U-bearing ground water abundant in oxygen, which is the main factor to U accumulation. This result can be used as the reference to the U mines predicting and prospecting.

Given sustaining exploration, the eastern zone of the Sulige gas field may soon become a key area of exploitation. In order to explore its genesis, types and distribution of the reservoir sandstones in the eastern zone of this gas field, we focused in our study on the provenance and detailed sedimentary facies of sandstone of the He8 （the eighth part of the Shihezi formation, Permian system） and Shanxil （the first part of the Shanxi formation, Permian system） members, based on core observations, analyses in petrography, granularity and logging. The results show that： 1） the sandstone provenance of Shanxil and He8 in the eastern zone of the Sulige gas field is from the north of the ordos basin, characterized by dual directions from the north and northeast. 2） The He8 and Shanxil members were deposited in a fluvial-delta sedimentary system. The He8 was mainly deposited in braided rivers, in- cluding braided channels, channel bars, levee and floodplain sub-environments, whereas the Shanxil Member was deposited in braided rivers and deltas, including braided channels, channel bars, floodplains, tributaries and inter-tributary sub-environments. 3） Sedimentary facies bands migrated in drastic fashion towards the basin from the Shanxil to the He8 Member. Base levels of sedi- mentation generally present a trend of small increases in-amplitude, large decreasing amplitudes and slow and gradual Increases. 4） The continuity of the reservoir sandbodies along the source direction is better than that perpendicular to the direction. Compared with Shanxil, both dimensions and continuity of the sandbodies in He8 are better from which we conclude that it is the most fa- vorable part of the reservoir.
