Formation of the Yazi Spring Stream and its significance on tectonics-climate on the northern slope of Kunlun Mountains

The sequences of fluvial terraces in the Yazi Spring Stream are signs of the stepwise uplift of the Kunlun Mountains in the northern part of the Tibetan Plateau since the Late Pleistocene. Geomorphic and sedimentary features of the terraces reveal that they have resulted from the phased tectonic uplift and the consequent river incision in the northern plateau. Using the method of Single-aliquot Regenerative-dose (SAR) Protocol and Radiocarbon 14C dating, the deposit ages of three-grade terraces were ob- tained, which are 57.5, 12.8 and 5.7 kaBP, respectively. The features and ages of terraces reveal that the incision rate of the stream accelerated at the beginning of the Holocene. The incision rate changed suddenly at 12.8 KaBP, from 0.43±0.07 mm/a to 1.59±0.55 mm/a. This implicates that uplift of the Kunlun Mountains is intensive at the first onset of the Holo- cene, corresponding to the obvious change of slip-rate on the Altyn Tagh Fault. But its uplift rate is much lower than that of the latter, which suggests that growth of the northern mar- gin of the Tibetan Plateau is stronger than its interior.

Dose-Dependence of Trap Parameters of OSL Decay from Al_(2)O_(3):C

optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) trap parameters can only be reliably determined through the detailed analy- sis of OSL decay curves. In this study the kinetic parameters of a blue-light stimulated luminescence (BLS) decay curve from Al2O3:C sample irradiated at 0.1, 0.15, 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6 Gy beta doses were obtained using the same basic methods with some modifications applied and also by using our suggestion: Active-OSL Approximation (AOSL). The results were compared with those of other studies on the trap parameters of Al2O3:C material.

Major debris-flow deposits occur along the xerothermic valley of the upper Jinsha *** debris-flow deposits,ranging in thickness from 1 to 20 m,invariably occupy gently inclined piedmont *** sediments are presently deeply dissected by gullies,and the process of mass movement has almost *** textural,stratigraphical,and geochemical studies reveal the formation processes of the debris *** debris-flow incidents are noted based on the unit combination characteristics of debris-flow *** age estimates of optically stimulated luminescence(OSL) show that the occurrence of debris flows started at around 10.6 kyr BP and weakened until 4.5 kyr BP,corresponding to the obvious strengthened phase of the summer monsoons in the *** ages of the debris-flow deposits indicate that the occurrence of a mass of debris flows was a response to the intensified summer monsoon in the SE fringe of the Tibetan Plateau since the early Holocene.

Large old landslides are common in the Three Gorges *** landslide,a large rockslide,is one of the largest landslides in the Three Gorges *** the landslide body there are two terraces to be *** two terrace deposits is not a two-grade terrace,but mainly remnants left by an occurrence of Baota *** stimulated luminescence(OSL) dating suggests that the age of the terrace deposits is 38-32 kyr *** OSL ages along with other Thermoluminescence(TL) and Radiocarbon(C) ages support the conclusion that the Baota landslide was originally triggered by strong precipitation occurred in a warm climate period of 30,000- 40,000 years BP.
