Simultaneously wavelength conversion of two input data signals based on four-wave mixing(FWM) in a single semiconductor optical amplifier(SOA) is proposed. The two input data signals in the wavelength conversion have a poor extinction ratio(ER) and the data "0" and data "1" are orthogonally polarized. When properly setting the relative polarization state of the two unconventional signals, replicas of the two input signals can be obtained at the idler's wavelength. Simultaneous wavelength conversion for two 10-Gb/s channels is demonstrated experimentally. The ER of two input signals is 4.83 d B and 4.81 d B respectively before wavelength conversion, while the ER of converted signals is 11.75 d B and 10.34 d B respectively.

In the paper, the temperature dependence of the sensitivity of an avalanche-photodiode-based receiver applied in the free space optical communication link is discussed. communication systems of this type are exposed to a wide range of operating temperatures, which markedly affect many photodiode and preamplifier parameters. The paper describes receiver sensitivity calculation, taking into consideration the temperature dependence of avalanche photodiode gain, excess noise factor, dark current and thermal noise of preamplifier resistances. Presented calculation is demonstrated on the connection of a small-area silicon APD operating in the wavelength range from 820 to 1150 nm with a transimpedance preamplifier using a bipolar junction transistor.

MZI wavelength interleaving filter based on double microring structure

To improve the output characteristics of all-fiber Mach-Zehnder interferometer(MZI)-interleaver,a dual microring-assisted MZI interleaver is *** to its structure,the output expression of the device is derived from the signal flow *** simulation analysis,the optimal structural parameters during the transmission process are *** addition,the coupling coefficient and transmission loss of the coupler are *** results show that the improved interleaver output line wave is closer to the square wave,and its 25 dB cutoff band bandwidth and 0.5 dB passband bandwidth are significantly improved,with the values of 41.2 GHz and 18.9 GHz,*** device has a certain resistantability to deviation,and the transmission loss has less influence on the extinction characteristics of the filter.

Multiparameter performance monitoring of pulse amplitude modulation channels using convolutional neural networks

A designed visual geometry group(VGG)-based convolutional neural network(CNN)model with small computational cost and high accuracy is utilized to monitor pulse amplitude modulation-based intensity modulation and direct detection channel performance using eye diagram *** results show that the proposed technique can achieve a high accuracy in jointly monitoring modulation format,probabilistic shaping,roll-off factor,baud rate,optical signal-to-noise ratio,and chromatic *** designed VGG-based CNN model outperforms the other four traditional machine-learning methods in different ***,the multitask learning model combined with MobileNet CNN is designed to improve the flexibility of the *** with the designed VGG-based CNN,the MobileNet-based MTL does not need to train all the classes,and it can simultaneously monitor single parameter or multiple parameters without sacrificing accuracy,indicating great potential in various monitoring scenarios.
