Exploring factors that motivate nursing students to engage in skills practice in a laboratory setting:A descriptive qualitative design

Objectives:The aim of this study was to explore factors that motivate students to engage in skills practice in a laboratory setting,and to identify their motivation types and the regulatory ***:Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 23 nursing students from three universities between November 2017 and January 2018.A thematic analysis was used to identify factors associated with students’motivation to engage in skills practice in a *** types and the regulatory styles of student motivation were identified based on the self-determination ***:Seven motivating factors were *** factors included the students’desire“to acquire the skills necessary to work as a nurse”,the“desire to improve skills in preparation for clinical practicum”,and their felt“obligations to patients as a nurse”.Moreover,“the impetus to study arising from the objective evaluation of oneself and others”and“wanting to pass the skills examination”motivated the students to engage in skills practice.A“learning environment that facilitates students’learning”and the“supportive involvement of educators”facilitated their *** on the self-determination theory,the students were found to embrace extrinsic motivation with four regulatory styles of motivation,namely integrated,identified,introjected,and external ***:Nurse educators should understand the motivating factors of students,and help students embrace a more internally controlled motivation by helping them envision their future careers as nurses,and by fostering their ethical duty to care for patients.

Background/purpose:To evaluate the effects of attribution retraining on the perceived career barriers of undergraduate nursing students and to foster positive attributional ***:Ninety-four undergraduate nursing students were recruited and randomly divided into two groups:the attribution retraining group and the control *** students were assessed by the perceived career barriers inventory before and after the eight-week ***:Attribution retraining significantly influenced the students'perceived career *** mean scores of vocational knowledge,professional knowledge,and social ability of the experimental group were significantly reduced compared to the control group(pnursing students'vocational knowledge,professional knowledge,and social *** retraining should be encouraged in undergraduate nursing programs in order to reduce the nursing shortage in China's Mainland.

Translation and psychometric validation of the Korean version of the academic nurse self-efficacy scale for Korean bachelor-level nursing students

Nurses and nursing students’knowledge regarding blood transfusion:A comparative cross-sectional study

Objective:The objective of this study is to measure and compare the knowledge of nursing students and nurses on blood transfusion in an Indian *** and Methods:The present comparative,cross-sectional study enrolled 296 nurses and 177 nursing students through a purposive sampling from a medical university hospital and different nursing *** data were collected in the month of June and July of year 2021,using a self-structured *** questionnaire had two sections:Section-I contained demographic data(8 items for nurses and 5 for students)and section-II included 26 items that assessed nurses’and nursing students’knowledge on blood ***:Findings indicated that nurses and nursing students had insufficient knowledge about blood ***,however,had significantly greater total blood transfusion knowledge scores than nursing students(16.51±3.85 vs.12.10±3.28;Pnursing ***:Nurses and nursing students have unsatisfactory knowledge on blood transfusion;emphasizing the critical need for immediate and successful teaching activities in this area.

Objective:Evidence-based practices(EBPs)have been taught to students by identifying the best evidence/evidence from research ***,the experiences of Indonesian nurse preceptors in helping students implement research findings have not been explored *** study aimed to explore Indonesian nurse preceptors in guiding nursing students to use research ***:This study used interpretive phenomenology analysis that involves 9 nurse preceptors from hospitals in West Kalimantan,***-structured in-depth interviews were recorded and then transcribed ***:Three themes were generated during the analysis:“types of student supervision,”“issues during supervision,”and“the need for research literacy and supervision.”Conclusions:Nurse preceptors need support to supervise the nursing students to use research *** addition to upgrading nursing skills,nurse preceptors must receive training in research and its *** an appropriate strategy to assist students in using research findings will enhance the promotion of evidence-based nursing practices on a daily basis.

Effectiveness of experiential teaching method on the development of nursing students’skill competence:a systematic review and meta-analysis

Objective:Skill competence is essential for nursing students and experiential teaching method has become increasingly popular in China’s nursing *** systematically evaluate the effects of experiential teaching method on the development of nursing students’skill competence,and to provide evidence for nursing ***:The China National Knowledge Infrastructure,VIP,Wanfang Data,PubMed,and Web of Science databases were searched from their inception until November 28,*** screened the studies according to inclusion and exclusion criteria,extracted the data,and assessed the ***,a meta-analysis was ***:Totally 15 studies were included,and 1,633 nursing students were analyzed by Review Manager5.3 and Stata15.1 *** results show that the experiential teaching method can significantly improve nursing students’nursing skills such as training(SMD=1.05,95%CI:0.95–1.16,P=0.000),learning interest(ES=0.93,95%CI:0.79–1.06),ability to analyze and solve problems(ES=0.75,95%CI:0.55–0.94),ability to judge and innovative thinking(ES=1.01,95%CI:0.77–1.25),abilities of understanding and perception(ES=0.59,95%CI:0.34–0.83),and teaching satisfaction(ES=1.26,95%CI:1.13–1.4).Conclusions:The results suggest that the experiential teaching method is more effective for the nursing students’skill competence than traditional teaching in ***,due to the heterogeneity and bias risk,a large sample and high-quality studies are needed in future to confirm its effectiveness.

Measurement of professional identity in Chinese nursing students

Objectives:Chinese nurses continue to display low professional *** is becoming an emergent issue in China how to help nurse students develop their positive professional *** paper is to develop the Professional Identity Scale for nursing students(PISNS).Methods:Literature review,and interviews with students and experts were adopted to develop initial *** and validity of the scale were respectively examined by computing internal consistency coefficient alpha and split-half Spearman Brown for equal length,and Exploratory Principle Component Factor ***:Five factors with 17-item were obtained explaining 58.9%of the total ***’s alpha,and split-half reliability was 0.83 and 0.84 ***:Given its high reliability and validity,PISNS could be used as a measurement tool for educators to evaluate the developing level of professional identity in nursing students and assess the effectiveness of corresponding interventions and strategies.
