We propose a five-parameter dumbbell model to describe the fusion and fission processes of massive nuclei, where the collective variables are： distance ρ between center-of-mass of two fusing nuclei, neck parameter ν, asymmetry D, two deformation variables β1 and β2. The present model has macroscopic qualitative expression of polarization and nuclear collision of head to head, sphere to sphere, waist to waist and so on. The conception of ＂projectile eating target＂ based on open mouth and swallow is proposed to describe nuclear fusion process, and then our understanding of the probability of fusion and quasi-fission is in agreement with some previous work. The calculated fission barriers of a lot of compound nuclei are compared with the experimental data.

The extreme environment in a fusion reactor,namely high thermal load and intense energetic particles,requires the materials to possess high strength and good ductility at high temperature in combination with excellent radiation *** metal tungsten(W)and its alloy cannot satisfy these rigorous requirements,but the discovery of the W-based high-entropy alloys(HEAs)with outstanding properties sheds light on the developments of structural *** properties of some of these alloys make them promising candidates for engineering applications in fusion reactor beyond conventional W and its *** particular,their strengthening-toughening mechanism has also aroused wide ***,the design,microstructure,mechanical properties and irradiation performance of W-based HEAs are reviewed,and their future prospects are outlined.

We investigate the effects of the nuclear hexadecapole deformations on the interaction potentials between nuclei, the driving potentials and the fusion probabilities for some cold fusion reactions leading to super-heavy elements. It is found that nuclear hexadecapole deformations change significantly the structure of the driving potentials and the fusion probabilities for some reaction channels.

A high energy and high yield neutron source is a prime requirement for technological studies related to fusion reactor development. It provides a high-energy neutron environment for small-scale fusion reactor components research and testing such as tritium breeding, shielding, plasmafacing materials, reaction cross-section data study for fusion materials, etc. Along with ITER participation, the Institute of Plasma Research, India is developing an accelerator-based 14 MeV neutron source with a yield of 10^(12)n s^(-1). The design of the source is based on the deuterium–tritium fusion reaction. The deuterium beam is accelerated and delivered to the tritium target to generate 14 MeV neutrons. The deuterium beam energy and tritium availability in the tritium target are the base parameters of the accelerator-based neutron source design. The paper gives the physics design of the neutron generator facility of the Institute for Plasma Research. It covers the requirements, design basis, and physics parameters of the neutron generator. As per the analytical results generator can produce more than 1 × 10^(12)n s^(-1)with a 110 keV D^(+) ion beam of 10 mA and a minimum 5 Ci tritium target. However, the detailed simulation with the more realistic conditions of deuteron ion interaction with the tritium titanium target shows that the desired results cannot be achieved with 110 keV. The safe limit of the ion energy should be 300 keV as per the simulation. At 300 keV ion energy and 20 mA current, it reaches 1.6 × 10^(12)n s^(-1). Moreover, it was found that to ensure sufficiently long operation time a tritium target of more than 20 Ci should be used. The scope of the neutron source is not limited to the fusion reactor research studies, it is extended to other areas such as medical radioisotopes research, semiconductor devices irradiations, and many more.

The simulations of three-dimensional particle dynamics show that when irradiated by an ultrashort intense laser pulse, the deuterated methane cluster expands and the majority of deuterons overrun the more slowly expanding carbon ions, resulting in the creation of two separated subelusters. The enhanced deuteron kinetic energy and a narrow peak around the energy maximum in the deuteron energy distribution make a considerable contribution to the efficiency of nuclear fusion compared with the ease of homonuelear deuterium clusters. With the intense laser irradiation, the nuclear fusion yield increases with the increase of the cluster size, so that deuterated heteronuelear clusters with larger sizes are required to achieve a greater neutron yield.

Pair production of the doubly charged leptons X±± via vector boson fusion （γγ, Zγ and WW） at the large hadron collider is studied. Our numerical results show that the cross section via Zγ fusion is very small. For the center-of-mass energy √s= 14 TeV and Mx = 200 650 GeV, the values of the cross sections σγγ and σww are in the ranges of 5.2 fb-0.04 fb and 20.2 fb 1.2 fb, respectively.

High spin states in odd-odd ^98 Tc nuclei are studied by in-beam γ-ray spectroscopy with the ^96 Zr（^6Li, 412） fusionevaporation reaction at a beam energy of 35MeV. The previous level scheme is updated. A band based on 1090.7keV is expanded, and another band based on 1920.6 keV is newly identified. The observed two negative parity bands in ^98 Tc are proposed to be a pair of chiral doublet bands with the configuration πg9/2 vh11/2. The evidence supporting the assignment of the chiral doublet bands is discussed. Signature splitting and signature inversion are observed in the πg9/2 vh11/2 band in ^98Tc.
