Aluminoborates(ABOs)show wide ultraviolet(UV)transmittance,and are one of the important types of UV and deep-UV nonlinear optical(NLO)materials.In recent years,the combination of AlO_(n)(n=4,5,6)polyhedra or their fluorinated analogues with different polyborate anions leads to a rich variety of crystalline ABOs.In this review,we summarize the recent developments of UV and deep-UV NLO inorganic ABOs.These ABOs can be grouped into three types in terms of their compositions:(i)aluminum oxyborates,(ii)alkali/alkaline earth metal aluminoborates,and(iii)alkali/alkaline earth metal aluminoborate fluorides and fluoroaluminoborates.We discuss the synthesis,structural features,NLO properties,as well as related structure-performance relationships of these non-centrosymmetric ABOs.Finally,the future perspectives in this field are discussed.

To investigate photoelectric properties of meso-extended porphyrin derivatives with electron-donating or elec- tron-withdrawing substituents, a series of functionalized porphyrin materials have been designed and synthesized by Suzuki coupling reaction. The meso-extended structures were fully characterized by IH NMR, IR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. The photophysical properties of porphyrin derivatives were carefully examined by UV-Visible and fluorescence spectra, and the solvatochromic effect was observed and discussed. In particular, Z-scan technique was employed to characterize the third-order nonlinear optical （NLO） properties of the products such as nonlinear absorption and refraction, the third-order nonlinear refractive indexes （x（3）-value） of these porphyrin derivatives achieved 3.9 × 10-12 esu. In addition, the compounds could be self-assembled into highly organized morphologies through phase-exchange method. All the results indicated that the discotic materials have the potential for optoelec- tronic applications.

Two X-type chromophores, 2-[4-(4,5-di(4-nitrophenyl) imidazolyl) phenyl]-4,5-di(4-methoxyphenyl)-imidazole (DNPIPDMOPI), 2-[4-(4,5-di(4-nitrophenyl)-imidazolyl) phenyl]-4,5-di(4-aminophenyl)-imidazole (DNPIPDAPI), were synthesized and characterized. The results show that they possess good nonlinearity, considerable blue-shifted absorption (385 nm and 379 nm in THF) and high decomposition temperature (377 'C and 405 'C). These mean that the X-type chromophores possess a rather good nonlinearity-transparency-thermal stability trade-off. The multi-step corona-poling technique at elevated temperature and in-situ SHG measurements were used to obtain and evaluate the poled films of these chromophores doped in PMMA. The largest SHG signals appeared at 110-120°C, which are 12.5 pm/V and 16.7 pm/V respectively. The dependence of poling induced orientation stability on temperature was measured by depoling experiments and the results indicate that the poling-induced orientation of the films is stable at about 100°C. Theoretic analyses imply that better orientation stability arises from the X-type structure of chromophore. The X-type chromophore has two crossed intramolecular CT, both β xxx and β xyy can contribute to the second-order susceptibility, and the ratio of the tensorial components (γ= β xyy /β xxx ) is about 1/3, so the orientation decay of the films induced by rising temperature will provide a certain compensation for the contribution of β xyy of chromophores.

nonlinear optical(NLO)crystals can be employed to expand the laser frequency and thus are of technical importance in advanced laser science.Noncentrosymmetric rare earth compounds keep attracting broad interest as a significant branch of NLO materials because the highly distorted structural motifs centered by rare earth ions could remarkably benefit the second harmonic generation.In this review,we proceed from structure-properties relationship and reveal the role of rare earth element in the optical properties of NLO materials.We believe that this work can deepen the understanding of rare earth-based NLO materials and provide some enlightenment for exploring novel practical NLO crystals.

The title compound （C2H7NO·C7H4N2O6） has been obtained by the reaction of ethanolamine with 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid in deionized water at room temperature. The crystal crystallizes in orthorhombic, space group P212121 with a = 6.048（2）, b = 9.146（3）, c = 21.955（7） A^°, C9H11N3O7, Mr = 273.21, Z = 4, V= 1214.3（7） , A^°3, Dc = 1.494 g/cm^3, F（000） = 568,μ（MoKα） = 0.131 mm^-1, R1 = 0.0338 and wR2 = 0.0497. The new organic adduct is composed of one ethanolamine and one 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid, which are linked up by O-H…O and N-H…O types of hydrogen bonds to form a nine-membered ring and an eleven-membered ring, extending into a one-dimensional network structure.

Design and exploratory synthesis of novel infrared nonlinear optical chalcogenides have drawn extensive concerns owing to their excellent overall performance and important role in laser industry.During the past decades,a large number of infrared nonlinear optical chalcogenides have been developed and many effective design strategies have been summarized,which illuminates the path of future explorations.In this perspective,we discuss the feasibility and effectiveness of the representative design ideas.Moreover,we point out some topics to be investigated and discuss the future research directions.

Density functional theory（DFT） calculations were carried out to investigate the geometry structures, redox properties and second-order nonlinear optical（NLO） properties of ferrocene（Fc）-dithiolenes hybrid complexes. The switchable second-order NLO properties of these complexes are induced by the redox process. The oxidized process significantly affects the geometrical structures of the dithiolene moieties, that is, the embowed dithiolene moieties change into planar structures. It supports that the dithiolene moieties are the oxidized center. The βtot values of the cationic species are at least 4 and 10 times those of their corresponding parent complexes, respectively. Further, the time-dependent DFT calculation illustrates that the low-energy absorption（which is helpful for the large NLO response） is mainly assigned to intra-ligand charge transfer [π（ex-dithiolene）→π（ex-dithiolene）]. These results suggest the potential use of the novel Fc-based dithiolenes complexes as versatile and fascinating NLO switching materials.

　　It has attracted a lot of attentions to synthesize and investigate the behaviors of organic second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) materials. [1,2] We have ever reported that acridine derivatives ,[3] 4-substituted-benzylideneoxazol-5(4H)-one[4] and 4,4′-di-styryl-biphenyl derivatives[5] possess good second-order NLO properties. Coumarin derivatives are good organic optical materials and azobenzene derivatives possess a higher second-order nonlinear polarization values, however, there are few reports about the study on the synthetic method, optical behavior, especially,second-order NLO properties of 3-substitued-6-(substituted-phenylazo) coumarin derivatives.
