A two-dimensional double layer-averaged model of hyperconcentrated turbidity currents with non-newtonian rheology

Hyperconcentrated turbidity currents typically display non-newtonian characteristics that influence sediment transport and morphological evolution in alluvial ***,hydro-sedimentmorphological processes involving hyperconcentrated turbidity currents are poorly understood,with little known about the effect of the non-newtonian *** current paper extends a recent twodimensional double layer-averaged model to incorporate non-newtonian constitutive *** extended model is benchmarked against experimental and numerical data for cases including subaerial mud flow,subaqueous debris flow,and reservoir turbidity *** computational results agree well with observations for the subaerial mud flow and independent numerical simulations of subaqueous debris *** between the non-newtonian and newtonian model results become more pronounced in terms of propagation distance and sediment transport rate as sediment concentration *** model is then applied to turbidity currents in the Guxian Reservoir planned for middle Yellow River,China,which connects to a tributary featuring hyperconcentrated sediment-laden *** non-newtonian model predicts slower propagation of turbidity currents and more significant bed aggradation at the confluence between the tributary Wuding River and the Yellow River in the reservoir than its newtonian *** difference in model performance could be of considerable importance when optimizing reservoir operation schemes.

Numerical analysis of non-newtonian rheology effect on hydrocyclone flow field

In view of the limitations of the existing Newton fluid effects on the vortex flow mechanism study,numerical analysis of non Newton fluid effects was *** Reynolds stress turbulence model(RSM)and mixed multiphase flow model(Mixture)of FLUENT(fluid calculation software)and combined with the constitutive equation of apparent viscosity of non-newtonian fluid,the typical non-newtonian fluid(drilling fluid,polymer flooding sewage and crude oil as medium)and Newton flow field(water as medium)were compared by quantitative *** on the research results of water,the effects of non-newtonian rheology on the key parameters including the combined vortex motion index n and tangential velocity were *** study shows that:non-newtonian rheology has a great effect on tangential velocity and n value,and tangential velocity decreases with non-newtonian *** three kinds of n values(constant segment)are:0.564(water),0.769(polymer flooding sewage),0.708(drilling fluid)and their variation amplitudes are larger than newtonian *** same time,non-newtonian rheology will lead to the phenomenon of turbulent drag reduction in the vortex flow *** with the existing formula calculation results shown,the calculation result of non-newtonian rheology is most consistent with the simulation result,and the original theory has large *** study provides reference for theory research of non-newtonian cyclone separation flow field.

Large shear rate behavior for the Hebraud-Lequeux model Dedicated to the NSFC-CNRS Chinese-French summer institute on fluid mechanics in 2010

The H@braud-Lequeux model is a model describing the flow of soft glassy material in a simple shear flow configuration. It is given by a kinetic/Fokker-Planck-type equation whose coefficients depend on the shear rate of the experiment. In this paper we want to study what happens to the stationary solutions of this model when the shear rate is asymptotically large. In order to do that, we expand the solution of the equation using singular perturbation tools. In the end, we rigorously prove the estimate of Hebraud and Lequeux that the material asymptotically behaves as a newtonian fluid.
