Progno.tic significance of 14v-lymph no.e dissection to D2 dissection for lower-third gastric cancer

BACKGROUND Radical gastrectomy with D2 lymph no.e (LN) dissection is the standard surgical procedure for patients with resectable gastric cancer (GC). In the fifteenth edition of the Japanese Classification of Gastric Carcino.a, the 14v LN (LNs along the root of the superior mesenteric vein) was defined as the regional gastric LN. The efficacy of 14v LN dissection during radical distal gastrectomy for lower-third GC remains controversial. AIM To analyze whether the addition of 14v LN dissection improved the survival of patients with lower-third GC. METHODS The data from 65 patients who underwent 14v LN dissection and 65 patients treated without 14v LN dissection were selected using the propensity scorematched method from our institute database constructed between 2000 and 2012. Overall survival was compared between the groups. RESULTS Overall survival was similar between patients with 14v LN metastasis and those with distant metastasis (P = 0.521). Among patients with pathological stage IIIA disease, those who were treated with 14v LN dissection had a significantly higher overall survival than those treated without it (P = 0.020). Multivariate analysis showed that age no.tic factors for prolonged overall survival in patients with pathological stage IIIA disease. Patients with no. 1, no. 6, no. 8a, or no. 11p LN metastasis were at higher risk of having 14v LN metastasis.CONCLUSION Adding 14v LN dissection to D2 dissection during radical distal gastrectomy may improve the overall survival of patients with pathological stage IIIA lower-third GC.

Development of a scintillation detector for real-time measurement of space proton effective dose

In this study, a scintillation detector was developed to measure the space proton effective dose for astronauts based on the proton effective dose conversion coefficients provided by International Commission on Radiological Protection Report no. 116. In the Monte Carlo N-Particle Transport Code X(version 2.6.0) simulation process, by modulating the depth and solid angle of truncated conical holes in an iron shell from lower-energy protons to higher-energy protons, the energy deposited in the scintillator by isotropic protons was nearly proportional to the corresponding effective dose, with a maximum relative deviation of 13.28% at thirteen energy points in the energy range of 10–400 MeV. Therefore, the detector can monitor proton effective dose indirectly in real time by measuring the deposited energy. We calibrated the photoelectric conversion efficiency of the detector at the cobalt source, tested the response of the detector in the energy range of 30–100 MeV in unidirectional proton field, and validated the simulation with the experimental results.

The movement mechanisms of subpolar-type glaciers in China

Studies of movement mechanisms have been carried out in Urumqi Glacier no. 1 for years Four mechanisms have been identified. They are ice deformation, bed deformation, shear faulting and sliding over the bed. The creep experiment on polycrystalline ice with impurities and the observation in ice tunnels excavated at the glacier base show that a definite store of impurities is able to significantly increase the deformation of bed composed of ice-laden debris at the temperature between - 1℃ and the melting point The subpolar-type glaciers in China, on the basis of these studies, might be distinguished into three modes whose movement mechanisms differ from each other to a degree according to their scale and the location of the O’C isotherm.

Rock Slope Stability Problems in Wadi Quaz-Dam Site no. 2, Jeddah-Saudi Arabia

The present investigation deals with the engineering geological studies of soil and rock masses in the Wadi Quaz area-Dam no. 2, East of Jeddah. Wadi Quaz area-Dam no. 2, East of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia often faces floods during rainy seasons, so it is so urgent to investigate the area before building any dam or preventing water from flow. Preventing water from flow will produce new dangerous factors such as uplift force which may cause the dam failure. To have a better understanding of the factors that may affect the slope stability, many rock slope locations are observed in detail to assess the effect of discontinuities formed in the rock masses. Fieldwork and Laboratory tests were carried out on soil and rocks. Soils included identification of soil type using unified soil classification system, permeability, water content and field density were done for soils. Rocks include identification of physical and mechanical properties such as: rock type, degree of weathering, rock strength, RQD, joint spacing measurements, and geometric properties (Dip, and Dip direction). Different methods were used to evaluate the potential failure in the studied area depending on rock mass rating and slope stability analysis. The well-kno.n classification of rock masses titled Rock Mass Rating system [1] was used for categorizing the rock masses in the studied area besides slope mass rating [2] which would help to estimate the rock stability. The kinematical analysis was applied to investigate the potential failure mode which might occur in the dam abutments. This paper will provide the stability of dam abutments in both summer season and winter season besides general estimation of the seepage problems related to the soil and according to its permeability.

Geochemical evidence for contribution of ore-forming materials from peralumino.s granite basement —— Taking Fucheng pluton and no. 6722 uranium deposit in southern Jiangxi Province as examples

Using the induced fission-track method, mobile uranium leaching and lead isotope analysis, this work obtianed geochemical features of the peralumino.s Fucheng granite basement and the host rock (shoshonite) of the no. 6722 uranium deposit in southern Jiangxi Province. (i) Uranium contents of the leucocratic rock-forming minerals (0.18 mg/g for quartz, 0.36 mg/g for feldspar) are lower than the uranium content of the whole rock (4.6 mg/g). Biotite and some ac-cessory mineral inclusions (zircon, monazite and uraninite) are the main uranium carriers of the Fucheng granite pluton. The fissure uranium in altered minerals (hydromica and chlorite) increased evidently. (ii) Leachable rate of mobile uranium in the biotite granite is 10.4%, while that in the al-tered granite increased to 31%. (iii) Caculation based on lead isotopes shows that during alteration the Fucheng granite lost uranium (DU = -37% — -65%), whereas the Caotaobei shoshonite gained uranium (DU = +37%— +58%). These features suggest that the ore-forming material of the no. 6722 uranium deposit was mainly derived from the altered peralumino.s granite basement of Fucheng pluton.

We report a case of a 37-year-old Japanese female. She had a Tessier no. 8 craniofacial cleft and an orbital lipoma in the lateral canthal region. Excisional surgery and pathological examination revealed a genuine lipoma. no.other case has been reported in the literature. Here, we present our case of a rare genuine lipoma located in lateral canthal region of the Tessier no. 8 cleft.

Objective:To investigate the antifungal potential of different grades of Sri Lankan orthodox black tea [orange pekoe, broken orange pekoe fannings (BOPF) and Dust no. 1] belonging to the three agro-climatic elevations (low, mid and high). Methods: Antifungal activity was assessedin vitro using methano.ic extracts (300μg/disc) and agar disc diffusion bioassay technique against threeCandida species,Candida albicans (C. albicans),Candida glabrata(C. glabrata), andCandida tropicalis. ketoconazole and itraconazole mixture was used as positive control (10μg/disc) and methano. was used as the negative control. The minimum inhibitory concentrations were also determined using standard protocols. Results: no.e of the extracts were effective againstCandida tropicalis. Furthermore, orange pekoe grade tea belonging to all agro-climatic elevations did no. induce any antifungal activity againstC. albicans andC. glabrata as well. Conversely, Dust no. 1 belonging to all three agro-climatic elevations and low-grownBOPF showed moderate antifungal activity againstC. albicans andC. glabrata. Interestingly, the severity of the antifungal effect varied with agro-climatic elevations. The minimum inhibitory concentrations ranged from 64.00–128.00μg/mL againstC. glabrata and 128.00-256.00μg/mL againstC. albicans. Conclusions:Sri Lankan Dust no. 1 andBOPF have marked antifungal activityin vitro and offer promise to be used as a supplementary beverage in prophylaxis and during drug treatment in candidiasis.

Among them, most no.able ones are personal computers (PC), the Internet, World Wide Web (WWW), and cloud computing. Cloud computing has drastically changed the landscape of IT industry by providing some major benefits to IT customers: eliminating upfront IT investment, scalability, proportional costs, and so on. In addition, cloud computing also prompts new challenges and brings in new progress. However, the delaysensitive applications face the problem of large latency, especially when several smart devices are getting involved. Therefore, cloud computing is unable to meet the requirements of low latency, location awareness, and mobility support.

‘秦红3号’是以高抗枯萎病的‘会圆1492’为母本、‘花美71301-209’为父本杂交选育的抗病黑皮西瓜新品种。该品种中熟,全生育期约96d,果实发育期32d。植株生长势健壮,抗枯萎病性强。坐果容易且整齐,果实椭圆形,果皮黑色,上覆深绿色中细条带,瓜瓤红色,瓤质脆,果实中心可溶性固形物含量11%、边部9%,中边梯度小。平均单瓜质量7.1kg,667m^2产量4373kg。适于我国大部分地区大棚种植及西北地区露地种植。2013年12月通过陕西省品种审定委员会鉴定,鉴定编号:陕瓜登字2013002。
