Study on Building an Econometric Model of Canada's newsprint Exports to the United States of America

For predictive purposes and for understanding the relationship between the US market and Canadian newsprint producers an econometric model was built. In this study, a simultaneous-equation model was developed, which consisted of four equations, one each for the supply, export, consumption and price of newsprint. The period of 1955-1986 was covered by this model. The data for the years 1985 and 1986 were reserved to test the predictive power of the model. In fitting the four equations for the period of 1955 -1984, the coefficients of determination, the R -square values, between observed and predicted values were higher than 99 per cent. The test results of the forecasting power showed that there was no statistically significant difference between predicted and observed values at the 5 per cent level of significance. Comparisons between Flotation Deinking Abilities of newsprint Paper by Using Enzyme and Chemicals

The aim of this research is to study the floatation deinking abilities of black mold enzyme and chemicals in newsprint paper application. In this experiment, the properties of deinked pulp from three different additives--chemicals, black mold enzyme, and chemicals together with black mold enzyme, are studied. The first part of the experiment was to find the optimal amount of chemicals and the optimal pH through the use of sodium hydroxide and surfactant. As a result, 0.2% of sodium hydroxide and 0.4% of surfactant on oven dried weight at pH 9 was found to be the optimal condition for the deinked pulp to yield the lowest ERIC （effective residual concentration） and the highest brightness. The second part of the experiment was to find the optimal amount of black mold enzyme used in the deinking process. As a result, the optimal condition for deinked pulp to retain the lowest ERIC and the highest brightness was 100 ppm of black mold enzyme and 10 minutes of enzyme reaction time. The third part of experiment was to study the de-inking ability of black mold enzyme and chemicals. Consequently, with 30 min of chemicals reaction time and 60 min of black mold reaction time, the deinked pulp retained low ERIC but higher brightness.

A Preliminary Study on The Printability of Bagasse Newsprint

To relax the tension caused by a shortage of wood resource in China,some non- wood fibre pulps, including bagasse pulp and kenaf pulp, were developed for newspaper making. Although the strength properties of paper made from bagasse are suitable for newsprint, the printabilities of this paper might not meet the need for the end- use of newsprint. To understand the dfference between wood fibre and non-wood fibre pulp in printabilities, a study on masson pine and bagasse newsprint has been performed. Bauer McNett Classfier, Dynamic Sheet Former, Optical Properties Tester and IGT Printabilities Tester were used in this work . A variety of bagasse pulps including bagasse chemical pulp, chemi-mechanical pulp and bagasse APMP were studied. The work exhibited that the newsprint made from bagasse ha higher critical pick velocity and better print density than that made from masson pine, but the former has more print through than the *** fines in bagasse pulp is good for paper printabilities, such as print density and. critical pick velocity, but it also cause more print through. Results of tests showed that opacity can be used to evaluate the print through property of the paper made from wood fiber, but it isn’t suitable for the paper made from non-wood fibre including bagasse pulp. In this work, a parameter of print throught (PT)was used to evaluate this property of bagasse newsprint.

Addendum and Corrigendum：＂Heavy Quarkonium Spectra in a Quark Potential Model＂

In a paper published years ago by me and my collaborators, the properties of heavy quarkonium systems were studied based on the Dick potential, which explicitly included the color factor in the potential and the non-relativistic SchrSedinger equation was numerically solved. However, another paper by Barakat and Chaba appeared online a few months earlier, which dealt with a similar problem, but used the shifted-expansion technique （SLET） to solve the semi-relativistic wave equation for the Dick potential up to a QCD color factor. Since both the papers solved the same Dick potential model, similar energy spectra due to the small relativistic effect were obtained for this heavy quark system. I and my collaborators did not point out this similarity in Ref. This should be added to give credit to Ref.
