Regenerating gene IV （RegIV）, a member of the regenerating gene family discovered in 2001, has been found to be involved in malignancy in several different organs including the stomach, colorectum, pancreas and prostate, but the overall expression profile of RegIV has not been reported. To learn more about RegIV, we evaluated its distribution by immunohistochemistry （IHC） in a total of 360 samples including 24 types of normal tissue, 40 benign and malignant lesions, and 18 neuroendocrine tumors. We found that in normal tissues, in addition to its relative specificity for the gastrointestinal tract, RegIV was detected in the adrenal gland and mammary gland. Among all the malignancies of various histological types under evaluation, RegIV was found mostly in adenocarcinomas. Studies on additional sets of colorectal tumor samples showed that RegIV expression was predominant in colorectal adenoma （87.5%） and peritumoral tissue （100%） but not in cancer tissue （30.8%）. Among neuroendocrine tumors, ReglV had a relatively restricted expression to those of digestive system.

neuroendocrine tumors of the gastrointestinal tract are rare neoplasms. Rectal neuroendocrine tumors consist approximately the 5%-14% of all neuroendocrine neoplasms in Europe. These tumors are diagnosed in relatively young patients,with a mean age at diagnosis of 56 years. Distant metastases from rectal neuroendocrine tumors are not very common. Herein we describe a case of a rectal neuroendocrine tumor which metastasized to the lung,mediastinum and orbit. This case underscores the importance of early identification and optimal management to improve patient's prognosis. Therefore,the clinical significance of this case is the necessity of physicians' awareness and education regarding neuroendocrine tumors' diagnosis and management.

Intramedullary spinal cord metastasis(ISCM) is very rare and its optimal treatment remains controversial. Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor(pNET) is a rare tumor that usually presents with hepatic metastasis. Hepatic failure due to tumor progression is the major cause of death in cases of pNET. To date,no report has described a case of ISCM from pNET. Although spinal cord metastasis of a solid tumor is uncommon,it is a critical condition that can cause a potentially irreversible loss of neurologic function. Here,we report the case of a 45-year-old man who presented with leg weakness and voiding difficulty,and was found to have ISCM from pNET. Surgical treatment prevented further neurological deterioration. This is the first case report of ISCM from pNET.

BACKGROUND:neuroendocrine tumors(NETs)arising in the biliary tree are extremely rare,and 37 cases were identified in the English literature. METHODS:A well-differentiated NET was found arising from the junction of the cystic and common hepatic ducts, in a 51-year-old male presenting with pedal edema and weight loss with abnormal liver enzymes and a normal serum bilirubin *** mass was seen on radiological imaging and biopsy of the liver was suggestive of an early cholangiopathy.A bile leak complicating the liver biopsy led to an ERCP that demonstrated a filling defect suggestive of a mass in the common bile duct(CBD). RESULTS:He underwent a successful excision of the tumor with a Roux-en-Y *** diagnosis of NET was made on histological and immunohistochemical analysis of the resected *** remains well and disease free 22 months after surgery. CONCLUSIONS:Recognition of biliary NET continues to be a challenge and an increased awareness of these tumors in rare sites will result in optimal management of these tumors.
