We design a laser diode （LD） end-pumped passively mode-locked solid-state laser with a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror. Mode-matching efficiency in the active medium including the thermal effect is analyzed, and the optimum mode-matching coefficient is obtained by optimizing the pump mode. In the experiment, a total power of 4.2 W stable pulse sequences without multipulse at 1064 nm is obtained with a pulse repetition rate of 86 MHz and a pulse width of 13 ps, corresponding to a high optical to optical efficiency of 44%.

A high efficiency, high power diode-side-pumped quasi continuous wave （QCW） Nd：YAG ceramic rod laser at 1064 nm based on the domestic transparent ceramic is reported. The average output power of 961 W is achieved with double ceramic rods by means of a symmetrical convex-convex cavity. The optical-to-optical conversion efficiency is 38.3% and the slope efficiency is 45.3%. To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest level of efficiency achieved for the domestic Nd：YAG ceramic rod laser.

We propose and demonstrate a laser-diode-pumped, maglev rotating Nd：YAG disk laser. The disk of the laser crystal is attached to a maglev pyrolytic graphite disk and is rotated by compressed gas. In this rotating disk laser, the detrimental thermal effects are alleviated and the laser can be operated in the single transverse electromagnetic （TEM）_（00） mode with high brightness. In our proof-of-concept experiment, we achieve a 17.7 mW laser output at 447 mW of absorbed pump power and a ~4 Hz rotation frequency.

A two-dimensional （2D） distributed feedback （DFB） structure is fabricated on dye-doped sol-gel derived hybrid zirconia films by soft lithography. The Q-switched Nd：YAG laser （）~ = 532 nm） is used to pump these structures. The lasing emissions of the gain medium doped with Rhodamine 6G （Rh6G） in two perpendicular directions are shown, and the threshold pump energy is measured.

Lower tropospheric water vapor measurements are performed at nighttime using the mobile atmosphere monitoring lidar-2（AML-2） which is operated by the Anhui Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics.In this lidar system,a 354.7-nm light from a Nd：YAG laser is used as stimulating source,whose Raman shifted center wavelengths are at 386.7 and 407.5 nm for nitrogen and water vapor,respectively.We present a novel and convenient method for determining the Raman lidar calibration constant according to the scanning performance of this lidar.We are likewise able to realize the measurement of water vapor profile in the low troposphere.The error induced by the uncertainty of calibrated constants is within 7% for the Raman lidar system.Experimental results from two months of study indicate that the method of calibrating the lidar system constant is feasible,and the Raman lidar performance is stable and reliable.

A 1.88μm Ba（N3）2-based stimulated Raman scattering（SRS） laser pumped by a potassium-titanylphosphate-based optical parametric oscillator（OPO） laser is presented.Under the pumping energy of a130 mJ 1064 nm Q-switched Nd：YAG laser,a 40 mJ 1.57μm laser is achieved;the maximum output energy of the 1.88μm Raman laser reaches 7.5 mJ with a pulse duration of 5.3 ns at repetition rates of 10 Hz,and the corresponding total optical conversion efficiency is about 5.8%.The combination of the SRS and OPO techniques significantly extends the wavelength from 1.064 to 1.57μm（OPO） and then demonstrates Stokes-shifting to 1.88μm（SRS）.

We obtain high peak power pulses in megawatt range of the first （1181 nm）, second （1321 nm）, and third order （1500 nm） Stokes radiation from self-conversion of the 106%nm laser radiation based on Nd：KGW laser. The maximum output energy of the first order Stokes laser is 35.3 m J, which is to our knowledge, the highest reported energy in an intracavity Q-switched laser. The third order Stokes pulse is obtained in an intraeavity Q-switched laser.

We investigate the dynamic processes of the Nd：YAG pulse laser ablation of fused silica by ultrafast time- resolved optical diagnosis with a nanosecond time resolution. The evolution process of plasma expansion in air and shock waves propagation in the bulk are both obtained with spatial and temporal resolutions. Laser-induced damage in the bulk of fused silica with filaments and shock waves are observed. Thermoela.stic wave, mechanical wave, and shock wave dependence on the laser fluence and intensity of the plasma are analyzed. The shock pressure P and temperature T calculated through the measured shock velocity D and the Hugoniot data of fused silica are measured.

We obtain the output of a 284 ps pulse duration without tail modulation based on stimulated Brillouin scattering（SBS） pulse compression pumped by an 8 ns-pulse-duration, 1064 nm-wavelength Q-switched Nd：YAG laser. To suppress the tail modulation in SBS pulse compression, proper attenuators, which can control the pump energy within a rational range, are added in a generator-amplifier setup. The experimental result shows that the effective energy conversion efficiency triples when the pump energy reaches 700 m J to 51%, compared with the conventional generator-amplifier setup.
