Exploration of Natural enzyme inhibitors with hypoglycemic potentials amongst Eucalyptus Spp. by in vitro assays

AIM: To investigate the presence and potency of Natural enzyme inhibitors with hypoglycemic potentials amongst Eucalyptus Spp. by in vitro assays.METHODS: The leaf extracts of the three different Eucalyptus species [E. globulus(EG), E. citriodora(EC), E. camaldulensis(ECA)] were subjected to in vitro assay procedures to explore the prevalence of Natural enzyme inhibitors(NEIs) after preliminary qualitative and quantitative phytochemical evaluations, to study their inhibitory actions against the enzymes like α-amylase, α-glucosidase, aldose reductase, angiotensin converting enzyme and dipeptidyl peptidase 4 playing pathogenic roles in type 2 diabetes. The antioxidant potential and total antioxidant capacity of the species were also evaluated.RESULTS: Major bioactive compounds like polyphenols(341.75 ± 3.63 to 496.85 ± 3.98) and flavonoids(4.89 ± 0.01 to 7.15 ± 0.02) were found in appreciable quantity in three species. Based on the IC50 values of the extracts under investigation, in all assays the effectivity was in the order of EG > ECA > EC. The results of the ferric reducing antioxidant power assay showed that the reducing ability of the species was also in the order of EG > ECA > EC. A strong correlation(R2 = 0.81-0.99) was found between the phenolic contents and the inhibitory potentials of the extracts against the targeted enzymes.CONCLUSION: These results show immense hypoglycemic potentiality of the Eucalyptus Spp. and a remarkable source of NEIs for a future phytotherapeutic approach in Type 2 diabetes.

Robust optimization for improving resilience of integrated energy systems with electricity and Natural gas infrastructures

The integration of Natural gas in electricity network requires a more reliable operating plan for increasing uncertainties in the whole system. In this paper, a threestage robust optimization model is proposed for resilient operation of energy system which integrates electricity and Natural gas transmission networks with the objective of minimizing load curtailments caused by attacks. Nonconvex constrains are linearized in order to formulate the dual problem of optimal energy flow. Then, the proposed three-stage problem can be reformulated into a two-stage mixed integer linear program(MILP) and solved by Benders decomposition algorithm. Numerical studies on IEEE30-bus power system with 7-node Natural gas network and IEEE 118-bus power system with 14-node Natural gas network validate the feasibility of the proposed model for improving resilience of integrated energy system. Energy storage facilities are also considered for the resiliency analysis.

Background:The prognostic significance of ABO blood type for lymphoma is largely unknown.We evaluated the prognostic role of ABO blood type in patients with extranodal Natural killer(NK)/T-cell lymphoma(ENKTL).Methods:We retrospectively analyzed clinical data of 697 patients with newly diagnosed ENKTL from three cancer centers.The prognostic value of ABO blood type was evaluated using Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox proportional hazard models.The prognostic values of the International Prognostic Index(IPI) and the Korean Prognostic Index(KPI)were also evaluated.Results:Compared with patients with blood type O,those with blood type non-O tended to display elevated baseline serum C-reactive protein levels(P=0.038),lower rate of complete remission(P=0.005),shorter progression-free survival(PFS,P60 years(P<0.001),mass ≥5 cm(P=0.001),stage Ⅲ/Ⅳ(P<0.001),elevated serum lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) levels(P=0.001),and blood type non-O were independent adverse predictors of OS(P=0.001).ABO blood type was found to be superior to both the IPI in discriminating patients with different outcomes in the IPI low-risk group and the KPI in distinguishing between the intermediate-to-low-and high-to-intermediate-risk groups.Conclusions:ABO blood type was an independent predictor of clinical outcome for patients with ENKTL.

Coordinated optimal dispatch and market equilibrium of integrated electric power and Natural gas networks with P2G embedded

As power to gas(P2 G) technology gradually matures, the coupling between electricity networks and Natural gas networks should ideally evolve synergistically.With the intent of characterizing market behaviors of integrated electric power and Natural gas networks(IPGNs)with P2 G facilities, this paper establishes a steady-state model of P2 G and constructs optimal dispatch models of an electricity network and a Natural gas network separately. In addition, a concept of slack energy flow(SEF) is proposed as a tool for coordinated optimal dispatch between the two networks. To study how the market pricing mechanism affects coordinated optimal dispatch in an IPGN, a market equilibrium-solving model for an IPGN is constructed according to game theory, with a solution based on the Nikaido-Isoda function. Case studies are conducted on a joint model that combines the modified IEEE 118-node electricity network and the Belgian 20-node gas network.The results show that if the game between an electric power company and a Natural gas company reaches market equilibrium, not only can both companies maximize their profits, but also the coordinated operation of the coupling units, i.e., gas turbines and P2 G facilities, will contribute more to renewable energy utilization and carbon emission reduction.

Mechanical Properties of Silicon Carbon Black Filled Natural Rubber Elastomer

A pyrolyzed ash containing about 50% carbon,named silicon carbon black(SiCB),was prepared by the anoxic pyrolysis of rice husk.Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),thermogravimetric analysis(TGA), Brunauer-Enunett-Teller(BET),transmission electron microscopy(TEM)and universal material testing machine were used to analyze the stress-strain relationship,Mullins effect and static viscoelastic properties of SiCB-filled vulcanized Natural rubber(NR),and SiCB was compared with a commercially available semi-reinforcing fumace(SRF) carbon black.The results show that the vulcanized Natural rubber filled with SiCB had similar reinforcing properties to those of that filled with traditional SRF,but obvious differences between them exist in stress-strain properties and stress softening resistance.We tried to discuss the related phenomena with the aid of the modified two-layer theory. And it is successfully predicted and verified that SiCB has good compression resistance and obvious stress relaxation advantages in compression stress relaxation.

Biosynthesis of Natural products from medicinal plants:Challenges,progress and prospects

Application of Natural ventilation of residential buildings in hot-humid regions

The current ventilation condition of the hot and humid regions was analyzed through on-site investigation. It is found that residents in this region expect to improve indoor thermal environment through Natural ventilation as much as possible. Then,it comes to a conclusion by the field test that Natural ventilation has certain practical effect on improving indoor thermal environment. CFD simulation software is employed to verify the test result. Based on PMV modified model,and according to norms,geography and climate combined with the measured and simulated results,the application of the time and effectiveness of Natural ventilation in hot and humid region were analyzed,to some extent,providing a basis for reducing the air-conditioner's runtime with Natural ventilation.

Preparation and Characterization of Natural Bamboo Fiber

In this study,Natural bamboo fiber was prepared combining chemical pretreatment with mechanical disc refining,opening,and carding.An orthogonal experiment was designed based on four factors and three levels;thereafter,the manufacturing process was optimized.The length,diameter,tensile strength,and elastic modulus of the bamboo fiber were determined,and the crystallinity and morphology of the fiber were analyzed using X-ray diffraction(XRD)and scanning electron microscopy(SEM).The results showed that the optimum parameters for the chemical pretreatment were a cooking temperature of 130℃,heating time of 2 h,NaOH dosage of 2%,and Na2SO3 dosage of 10%.The cooking yield of bamboo chips was 89.5%,and the carding yield of Natural bamboo fiber was 43.0% under the optimum conditions.The length,diameter,tensile strength,and elastic modulus of the obtained fiber were 36.71 mm,0.285 mm,407 MPa,and 27.7 GPa,respectively.XRD analysis and SEM observations showed that the technology used in this study can produce bright and compact Natural bamboo fibers with high crystallinity.

Comparison, Selection and Progeny Test of Natural Populations of White Birch (Betula platyphylla Suk.) in Northern China

[Objectives]This study was conducted to rationally and effectively use Natural genetic resources of white birch(Betula platyphylla Suk.),and improve the scientific and technological content of improved varieties.[Methods]With the progeny of the white birch populations Naturally distributed in northern China as objects,based on genetic effect analysis and comprehensive evaluation,the genetic variation,heritability and genetic gain of the growth characters in the progeny forest were systematically analyzed,by which populations or individuals with good growth vigor and strong stress resistance and adaptability were finally selected.[Results]There were extremely significant differences in the growth characters between the Natural populations of white birch in northern China.The variation was the smallest in tree height,followed by crown width,and largest in DBH,and the average coefficients of variation were 20.56%,32.25%and 33.00%,respectively.The differences in characters between progeny of the same population were also extremely significant.The growth characters of white birch were more controlled by genes,and the genetic gains were larger.The heritability of tree height,DBH and crown width was 0.971,0.816 and 0.576,respectively,and the genetic gains were 15.97%,21.54%and 13.87%,respectively.[Conclusions]With the growth characters as the main evaluation indexes,taking various influencing factors into account,the Shanxi[SX]population,Hebei[HB]population and Liaoning[LN]population were selected to be excellent populations,and LN305,SX516 and HB403 were excellent individuals,which are advised to be widely used in multi-generation genetic improvement breeding.
