Do trace metal(loid)s in road soils pose health risks to tourists?A case of a highly-visited national park in China

Nowadays,more people tend to spend their recreational time in large national parks,and trace metal(loid)s in soils have attracted long-term attention due to their possible harm to human *** investigate the pollution levels,potential sources and health risks of trace metal(loid)s in road soils,a total of eight trace metal(loid)s(including As,Cd,Cr,Cu,Ni,Pb,Zn and Hg)from 47 soil samples along roads were studied in the Huangshan national park in Southeast *** results showed that the concentrations of As,Cd,Pb,Zn and Hg appeared different degrees of pollution compared with their corresponding background *** to the pollution indices,Hg and Cd were recognized as significant pollutants presenting moderate to high ecological *** principal component analysis and positive matrix factorization model,the results showed that traffic,industrial,agricultural and natural sources were the potential origins of trace metal(loid)s in this area,with contribution rates of 39.93%,25.92%,10.53%and 23.62%,***-carcinogenic risks were all negligible,while the carcinogenic risk of As was higher than the limit(1×10^(-6)).Moreover,children were more susceptible to trace metal(loid)s by ingestion which appeared to be a more important exposure pathway than dermal contact and *** contribution rates of different sources to non-carcinogenic risks and carcinogenic risks were similar among children and adults,while traffic and industrial sources have a significant impact on health *** study will give more insights to control the environmental risks of trace metal(loid)s in national parks.

Functional zoning is an important mechanism for achieving national park planning and management *** functional zoning is of great significance to the protection of ecosystem legitimacy and integrity,the appropriate utilization of resources,community integration,and feasible *** the present study,the proposed Qinghai Lake national park is the research *** on the critical goal of ecological protection,the importance of ecosystem service functions and the ecological sensitivities were *** results showed that the ecosystem service functions and the ecological sensitivity of the whole region are *** them,lake,river and wetland as the most strictly protected ecosystems account for the highest *** this study divided the proposed Qinghai Lake national park into five functional areas through grid calculations,spatial analysis and multifactor *** results indicated that the goal of functional zoning for national park is to maximize the overall utility of park protection value and its comprehensive functions based on its spatial units with different functions,management and control *** zoning scheme addresses the lack of sustainable development in Qinghai Lake national park due to ecological environmental changes and single-resource zoning with resource protection as the primary *** study can serve as a reference for spatial functional zoning methods of national land parks,nature reserves and other natural protected areas.

Impacts of COVID-19 on tourism and management response from Banff national park,Canada

The COVID-19 pandemic posed challenges to the tourism sector *** investigated changes in visitor demographics,satisfaction level,and its determinants pre-and *** were collected using questionnaire surveys in 2019 and 2021 within Banff national park(BNP).The data analyses were based on a sample size of 1183 respondents by conducting factor analysis,correlation analysis and stepwise regression *** highlight that there were fewer international visitors and more local and domestic visitors during the *** attributes were evaluated at a higher satisfaction level *** quality of the park facilities and services were the most important satisfaction determinants pre-and peri-COVID-19,and all the park COVID-19 measures and actions received positive experience from *** research fills this knowledge gap by developing a better understanding in the change of visitor demographics and satisfaction level in BNP under the context of the *** also provides implication for both scholars and practitioners to understand the impacts of the pandemic on park *** study can provide insights for utilizing the pandemic as a transformative strength and for mitigating its negative impact on tourism industry.

Inland-coastal demographic transformations in a karst area:a case study of the surroundings of Krka national park(Croatia)

According to geographic possibilism,environment does not determine socio-economic ***,the environment sets certain constraints and limitations for *** do natural settings influence population dynamics?In this study,we examine this question using the example of?ibenik-Knin County,which includes Krka national park(NP)with a GIS-based statistical *** following parameters represent natural factors:elevation,slope,distance from water,and proportion of karst *** addition,distance from Krka NP was also added as an independent seminatural factor(despite the fact that it is a social construction).The dependent social parameters are population density for selected historical dates,population change,year of maximum population,natural increase,migration,and age *** analysis units are the 199 settlements found in the county,and the 20 local administrative units(LAU2).The study period can be divided into five phases:from the first census in 1857 to 1921,there was a slow increase in most settlements;then a relatively constant phase up to 1961(some settlements began shrinking in this period);a slow decrease until 1991;arapid decrease during the next decade;and relative stabilisation to present *** processes were also accompanied by significant inner and outer *** for the relationships between natural and demographic factors,we found that although the coastal-inland area dichotomy is dominant in the study area,elevation has the highest correlation with most population ***,distance from water is also significantly correlated with population change and migration in certain *** the inland areas,there are statistically significant differences between the demographic processes of fully-karstic and partially-karstic areas,while in the coastal zone,the karst effect is overshadowed by other social *** impact of Krka NP on the demographic characteristics of the surrounding settlements was statisti

Impact of Transport Network Changes on Tourism in Protected Areas: A Case Study of Ayubia national park, Pakistan

The inflow caused by tourists in peak seasons exerts an uncontrollable pressure on the existing infrastructure. The Ayubia national park in Pakistan faces traffic delays and capacity restraints on the connecting roads in peak season. The study focuses on the formulation of critical strategies by deploying amendments in the transport network. The methodology contains three parts: 1) a questionnaire was designed to inquire about several variables from the visitors;2) the second part was traffic count data collection and analysis. Based on the response collected, the impact of multiple strategies on the network was analyzed using TransCad;3) in the third part, the results obtained were shared with experts to gain their valuable opinions. It was observed that the time of the day based access restriction to heavy vehicles could lead to dropping the Volume to capacity ratio from 1.7 to 1.2. However, the experts were also of the view that network changes can enhance and improve the visitors’ experience.

Gendered Perceptions of Climate Variability and Change among Local Communities Living around Queen Elizabeth national park in Uganda

Climate change affects both men and women which,in turn,shapes their varied and contrasting perceptions of climate variability and *** paper examined the gendered perceptions of climate variability and change among local communities in Queen Elizabeth national park in *** objectives are threefold:-identify climatic shocks faced by the local communities;examine the perceptions of men and women of climate variability and change;and to compare their perceptions with empirical meteorological *** study employed both qualitative and quantitative methods,with data collected from 215 respondents using survey,interviews and focused group *** the findings,indicators of climate variability and change included reduced flooding events,occurrence of human diseases,increasing crop pests and diseases,dry spells and intensity of *** was increasing significant temperatures while rainfall was *** male and female significantly associated with increasing temperatures and reduced flooding *** climatic shocks affected both males and females,the impact was more pronounced depending on distinct livelihood activities and roles and responsibilities *** study concluded that people’s perceptions of climate change should be taken on by the government and integrated in the national climate programs that support people’s livelihoods and survival mechanisms.

Conservation-compatible development of rural communities is an important part of nature conservation *** the role of agriculture,which is often practiced in or bordering the protected areas in rural China,is critical for managing conservation networks considering that limited spatial areas are available for enclosed protected *** Agricultural Heritage Systems stand out for their multi-functionality,and some of their values are compatible with nature *** paper examined the concept,management objectives and resource management characteristics of the Important Agricultural Heritage Systems(IAHS)by analysing their interactions with national parks in terms of community *** results reveal that management strategies of dynamic conservation,integrated protection and adaptive management of the IAHS can contribute to those national park management objectives concerning conservation-compatible ***,the typology of the protected area system,including the traditional agricultural system as a new type,needs further consideration.

Evaluation of Ecosystem Cultural Services in Qilian Mountain national park,Qinghai Province,China

Based on the framework of the United Nations Millennium Ecosystem Assessment(MA),this paper evaluated the ecosystem cultural service value in Qilian Mountain national park,Qinghai *** study mainly adopted Condition Value Method(CVM)and questionnaire survey to survey the local residents and tourists in September 2016,and obtained 1,468 valid questionnaires,as well as used the method of payment card to get the consumers’willingness to pay,and then estimated the ecosystem cultural services value in Qilian Mountain national park,Qinghai Province through the mean of total willingness to pay of ecological tourism and recreation and aesthetic *** quantitative analysis,the study concluded that the ecosystem cultural service value of Qilian Mountain national park in Qinghai Province was 1.045 billion yuan in 2016 and 1.3 billion yuan in *** 2016 and 2018,the average annual values of ecotourism and recreation are 203 million yuan and 332 million yuan respectively,and the average annual values of aesthetics are 842 million yuan and 968 million yuan *** addition,the study also suggests that Qilian Mountain national park in Qinghai Province should pay attention to reflect the characteristics of the park,focus on enhancing the aesthetic value of it in the management,and build it into a replaceable and referential national park demonstration area and ecological culture demonstration point.
