A Tale of Two Visits

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to Africa focuses on addressing practical issues,while US adapts to a changing reality.From 13 to 18 January,Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited four African countries in keeping with the more than three decades of tradition where Chinese foreign ministers start their yearly overseas visits with a trip to Africa.However,while these visits have become a routine for China’s diplomatic practice,they are not an empty ritual.They represent a tradition of China-Africa pragmatic cooperation defined by mutual consultations and tangible outcomes.It is neither opportunistic nor paternalistic,but rather engagement in the specific issues of concern for the particular country in relation to bilateral cooperation with China and the overall framework of the broader and comprehensive China-Africa cooperation.

For the study of internal combustion engines,combustion control is an important method to achieve high efficiency and low emissions.Currently,in-cylinder pressure sensor-based closed-loop control strategies have become the preferred solution.However,their productional application in automotive industries is limited due to the cost of intensive pressure acquisition for a whole cycle and the calculation load of combustion phase indicators.This paper proposes a method of combustion phase estimation for spark ignition(SI)engines.In this method,the combustion phase is estimated only based on pressure measurements at several crank angles.Information entropy and mutual information are introduced to analyze the feasibility and accuracy of the combustion phase estimation,which shows that the pressure measurements at selected points contain most of the information for the estimation.As a result,only pressure measurements at 3 points and ELM estimation models are required to obtain the combustion phase,instead of intensive data acquisition and calculation.

The mutual neutralization cross sections of Na^(+)/O^(-) ions at low energy have been calculated by using the multichannel LandaZener theory.An asymptotic method is used for estimating tBe coupling matrix elements between tbe ionic and covalent states at the crossing points of diabatic potential curves.The results of calculation are compared with available experimental data.

Autonomous vehicles(AVs)are advertised to free human drivers,providing a safer and more efficient transport mode.After decades of extensive investment and invention,various types of AVs have been unveiled,but they are still restricted to limited application scenarios because of potential safety concerns.Despite rare sensing or detection failures from corner cases,one of the significant concerns primarily questions whether AVs would interact appropriately with surrounding human-driven vehicles on public roads.
