Research on shell-side heat and mass transfer with multi-component in LNG spiral-wound heat exchanger under sloshing conditions

The spiral-wound heat exchanger(SWHE) is the primary low-temperature heat exchanger for large-scale LNG plants due to its high-pressure resistance, compact structure, and high heat exchange efficiency. This paper studied the shell-side heat and mass transfer characteristics of vapor-liquid two-phase mixed refrigerants in an SWHE by combining a multi-component model in FLUENT software with a customized multicomponent mass transfer model. Besides, the mathematical model under the sloshing condition was obtained through mathematical derivation, and the corresponding UDF code was loaded into FLUENT as the momentum source term. The results under the sloshing conditions were compared with the relevant parameters under the steady-state condition. The shell-side heat and mass transfer characteristics of the SWHE were investigated by adjusting the component ratio and other working conditions. It was found that the sloshing conditions enhance the heat transfer performance and sometimes have insignificant effects. The sloshing condition is beneficial to reduce the flow resistance. The comprehensive performance of multi-component refrigerants has been improved and the improvement is more significant under sloshing conditions, considering both the heat transfer and pressure drop.These results will provide theoretical support for the research and design of multi-component heat and mass transfer enhancement of LNG SWHE under ocean sloshing conditions.

Dual-assisted high-precision tracking technique for wideband multiplexed signals in new generation GNSS

With the evolution of Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS),new generation GNSS signals have adopted the dual-frequency multiplexing modulation techniques,which jointly modulate multiple signals located on multiple sub-frequencies into a Wideband multiplexed Signal(WMS).Although WMSs were proposed initially to reduce the complexity of satellite transmitters and improve the transmission efficiency of signals,their multi-component structures and wide root mean square bandwidths introduced by high-frequency subcarriers also provide the possibility to improve the GNSS ranging precision.Therefore,this paper proposes a Dual-assisted multi-component Tracking(DMT)technique,which can not only fully use high-frequency subcarriers in WMSs,but also effectively track carrier,subcarrier,and code by jointly utilizing all components in WMS.In this paper,the tracking and ranging performances of DMT are comprehensively analyzed theoretically and by simulation and real experiments.The results show that compared with existing WMS tracking methods,DMT can achieve tracking results with lower tracking jitters and ranging results with higher precision,providing a highly advantageous solution for new generation GNSS signal processing.

Controlled peptide assembly offers significant promise to develop synthetic supramolecular nanostructures to display material and biological properties that mimic protein assemblies in nature.Despite the progress in forming peptide nanostructures of various morphology,there exists a distinct gap between natural and synthetic assembly systems in terms of size control.Constructing nanostructures with a narrow size distribution that can be tuned over a wide range of length-scales is essential for applications that require precise spacing between objects.This approach provides the opportunity to correlate materials and biological properties of interest with assembly size.In this review,we discuss representative endeavors over the past two decades for design of size-controllable peptide nanostructures using tunable building blocks.Other mechanisms for size control,e.g.,molecular frustration,template-directed peptide assembly,and multi-component peptide co-assembly,will also be discussed.We also demonstrate the applicable scopes of these strategies and suggest potential future avenues for scientific advances in this field.

Fully fluorinated hybrid zeolite imidazole/Prussian blue analogs with combined advantages for efficient oxygen evolution reaction

Hybrid metal-organic framework(MOF)derivatives play a significant role in the novel catalyst development in energy conversion reactions.Here,we demonstrated the low-temperature fully fluorinated zeolitic imidazole framework(ZIF)coupled with a three-dimensional open framework Prussian blue analog(PBA)with combined advantages for electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reaction(OER)in water splitting reaction.The spectroscopic analysis and the electrochemical studies revealed the combined advantages of efficient electronic effect and active site synergism.Because of good conductivity improvement by Ndoped carbon derived from ZIF and the high electrochemical surface area and active site exposure from PBA derivatives,good catalytic performance was obtained on the optimal catalyst of Co Ni ZIF/Co Fe-PBAF-300,which required a low overpotential of 250 m V to reach 10 m A/cm^(2)loaded on the glassy carbon electrode,with Tafel slope of 47.4 m V/dec,and very high dynamic and steady stability.In addition,the multi-component with the mixed structure from highly polar metal fluorides promoted the easy formation of the active phase as revealed by the post-sample analysis.The current results showed a novel composite catalyst materials development from the hybrid MOF derivatives,which would be promising in the electrolysis of water oxidation reactions and energy-relevant catalysis reactions.

Improved multi-order parameter and multi-component model of polycrystalline solidification

In this paper, we present an improved multi-order parameter model for multi-component model of polycrystalline solidification. We introduce an interpolation function in the phase field dynamical equation to obtain controllable grain boundary energy at large undercooling. The same interpolation function is also employed in the kinetics coefficient to allow for better control of grain boundary migration. Temperature dependent phase field parameters and noise terms are consistently coupled into the dynamics of a binary system in a manner that allows for quantitative simulations in the thin interface limit. The model is applied to multi-phase solidification in Al-Cu alloy, where a parabolic fitting method is employed to model the free energy of Al-Cu phases and two-phase nucleation is demonstrated in directional solidification.

2D Q-compensated multi-component elastic Gaussian beam migration

Elastic waves are affected by viscoelasticity during the propagation through the Earth,resulting in energy attenuation and phase distortion,in turn resulting in low seismic imaging accuracy.Therefore,viscoelasticity should be considered in seismic migration imaging.We propose a Q compensated multicomponent elastic Gaussian beam migration(Q-EGBM)method to(1)separate the elastic-wave data into longitudinal(P)and transverse(S)waves to perform PP-wave and PS-wave imaging;(2)recover the amplitude loss caused by attenuation;(3)correct phase distortions caused by dispersion;(4)improve the resolution of migration imaging.In this paper,to accomplish(2),(3),and(4),we derive complex-valued traveltimes in viscoelastic media.The results of numerical experiments using a simple five-layer model and a sophisticated BP gas model show that the method presented here has significant advantages in recovering energy decay and correcting phase distortion,as well as significantly improving imaging resolution.

Segregation modes,characteristics,and mechanisms of multi-component lignite in a vibrated gas-fluidized bed

The segregation modes and characteristics of 1-6 mm multi-component lignite were studied in a microporous, vibrated, gas-fluidized bed of Φ110 mm ×400 mm. The effects of particle density and size, vibration frequency and amplitude, and gas velocity on these characteristics were considered. The average size, average density, size deviation coefficient, and density deviation coefficient were used to identify lignite size and density. The separation efficiency was adopted to evaluate the segregation performance,and the segregation mechanisms were explored. The results show that ε(size,max) of heterogeneous multisize-component lignite with K_(size) = 65% reaches 80% at f= 20 Hz, A = 5 mm, and N =(1,3). ε_(density,max) Of heterogeneous multi-density-component lignite with K_(density)= 25% reaches 50% at f = 15 Hz, A = 5 mm,and N =(1,1.5). The density segregations of 1-3 and 3-6 mm multi-component mixtures are remarkable,ε_(density,max)= 42% and 31% at f= 14 and 16 Hz, and A = 3 and 5 mm, respectively. The size segregation of 1-6 mm multi-component mixture is prominent and ε_(size,max)= 55% at f= 15 Hz, A = 5 mm. The mediumsized mixture with a narrow size distribution at low frequency is favorable for density segregation,and a mixture with a wider size distribution at high frequency is most favorable for size segregation.Precise control of gas flow and vibration as well as optimal design of the fluidized bed can improve the performance of segregation in the vibrated gas-fluidized bed.

multi-component and multi-point trace gas sensing in the wavelength modulation spectroscopy is demonstrated based on the frequency-division multiplexing and time-division multiplexing technology.A reference photodetector is connected in series with a reference gas cell with the constant concentration to measure the second-harmonics peak of the components for wavelength stabilization in real time.The central wavelengths of the distributed feedback lasers are locked to the target gas absorption centers by the reference second-harmonics signal using a digital proportional-integral-derivative controller.The distributed feedback lasers with different wavelengths and modulation frequencies are injected into the gas cell to achieve multi-components gas measurement by the frequency-division multiplexing technology.In addition,multi-point trace gas sensing is achieved by the time-division multiplexing technology using a photoswitch and a relay unit.We use this scheme to detect methane(CH4)at 1650.9 nm and water vapor(H2O)at 1368.597 nm as a proof of principle with the gas cell path length of 10 cm.The minimum detection limits achieved for H2O and CH4 are 1.13 ppm and 11.85 ppm respectively,with three-point gas cell measurement;thus 10.5-fold and 10.1-fold improvements are achieved in comparison with the traditional wavelength modulation spectroscopy.Meanwhile,their excellent R-square values reach 0.9983 and 0.99564 for the concentration ranges of 500 ppm to 2000 ppm and 800 ppm to 2700 ppm,respectively.

A one-dimensional transport model for multi-component solute in saturated soil

A modified multi-component solute diffusion equation described with diffusion flux was derived in detail based on the classical MaxwellStefan diffusion theory. The friction between the solute species and the soil skeleton wall, which is proportional to the relative velocity between the solute species and the soil skeleton, is introduced. The chemical potential gradient is considered the driving force. A one-dimensional model for transport of multi-component solute in saturated soil was developed based on the modified diffusion equation and the modified competitive Langmuir adsorption equation. Numerical calculation of a case of two heavy metal ion species, which was chosen as an example, was carried out using the finite element software COMSOL multiphysics. A comparative analysis was performed between the multi-component solute transport model developed in this study and the convection-diffusion transport model of single-component solute based on Fick's law. Simulation results show that the transport behavior of each species in a multi-component solute system is different from that in a single-component system, and the friction characteristics considered in the developed model contribute to obstructing the movement of each solute component. At the same time,the influence of modified competitive Langmuir adsorption on solute transport was investigated. These research results can provide strong theoretical support for the design of antifouling barriers in landfills and the maintenance of operation stability.

This review focuses on the recent research progress in the multi-component assembly of luminescent rare earth hybrid materials, which is based on the luminescent rare earth compounds and two or more other building units, including the other photoactive species. It covers the multi-component luminescent rare earth hybrids which was assembled with different(a) organic-inorganic polymeric units,(b)nanoporous units,(c) nanoparticle composites or(d) other developing special units. Finally, future challenges and opportunities in this field are discussed. Herein it mainly focuses on the work of Yan's group in recent years.
