Thermo-active diaphragm walls have proved their effectiveness in the thermal conditioning of buildings and infrastructures. However, some aspects still need to be investigated in order to tailor methods and tools for an accurate prediction of their energy and structural performance. In this perspective, some issues are addressed that concern the definition of models for the numerical analysis, in particular issues about the modelling of geometry and thermal boundary conditions. Taking advantage of a monitoring programme on a real full-scale structure, this research focuses on the assessment of heat transfer process and thermal response of diaphragm wall and soil mass on the basis of field data. Understanding of the heat transfer process contributes to the definition of the time-dependent thermal boundary conditions at the excavation side. From the analysis of thermal gradients in the wall, the condition at the excavation side is recognised as a major factor that influences the heat transfer process, governing the direction of the heat flux in different seasons of operation of the geothermal system.

Over the last decades,an expansion of the underground network has been taking place to cope with the increasing amount of moving people and *** a consequence,it is of vital importance to guarantee the full functionality of the tunnel network by means of preventive maintenance and the monitoring of the tunnel lining state over time.A new method has been developed for the real-time prediction of the utilization level in tunnel segmental linings based on input monitoring *** new concept is founded on a framework,which encompasses an offline and an online *** the former,the generation of feedforward neural networks is accomplished by employing synthetically produced *** element simulations of the lining structure are conducted to analyze the structural response under multiple loading *** scenarios are generated by assuming ranges of variation of the model input parameters to account for the uncertainty due to the not fully determined in situ *** and target quantities are identified to better assess the structural utilization of the *** latter phase consists in the application of the methodological framework on input monitored data,which allows for a real-time prediction of the physical quantities deployed for the estimation of the lining *** approach is validated on a full-scale test of segmental lining,where the predicted quantities are compared with the actual ***,it is investigated the influence of artificial noise added to the training data on the overall prediction performances and the benefits along with the limits of the concept are set out.

The Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation(RUSLE)is widely used to estimate regional soil ***,quantitative impacts of soil and water conservation(SWC)measures on conservation practice factor(P)of the RUSLE remain largely unclear,especially for the mountainous and hilly *** this study,we improved the RUSLE by considering quantitative impacts of different SWC measures on the P factor *** improved RUSLE was validated against the long-term(2000-2015)soil erosion monitoring data obtained from 96 runoff plots(15—35°)in mountainous and hilly areas of Hubei Province,China;the result presented a high accuracy with the determination coefficient of *** on the erosion monitoring data of 2018 and 2019,the Root Mean Square Error of the result by the improved RUSLE was 28.0%smaller than that by the original RUSLE with decrement of 19.6%—24.0%in the average P factor values,indicating that the soil erosion modelling accuracy was significantly enhanced by the improved *** low P factor values appeared for farmlands with tillage measures(P<0.53),grasslands with engineering measures(P<0.23),woodlands with biological measures(P<0.28),and other land use types with biological measures(P<0.51).The soil erosion modulus showed a downward trend with the corresponding values of 1681.21,1673.14,1594.70,1482.40 and 1437.50 t km^(-2)a-1 in 2000,2005,2010,2015 and 2019,*** applicability of the improved RUSLE was verified by the measurements in typical mountainous and hilly areas of Hubei Province,China,and arrangements of SWC measures of this area were proposed.

Water curtain systems(WCSs)are key components for the operation of underground oil storage caverns(UOSCs)and their optimization and design are important areas of *** on the time series monitoring of the first large-scale underground water-sealed storage cavern project in China,and on finite element analysis,this study explores the optimum design criteria for WCSs in water-sealed oil *** shows that the optimal hole spacing of the WCS for this underground storage cavern is 10 m in order to ensure seal *** the WCS is designed with a 10-m horizontal hole spacing and a water curtain pressure(WCP)of 80 kPa,a water curtain hole(WCH)has an influence radius of approximately 25 *** smaller the vertical distance is between a WCH and the main cavern,the greater the water inflow into the main *** vertical hydraulic gradient criterion can be satisfied when this distance is 25 *** shows that the optimal WCP is 70 kPa,which meets sealing requirements.

Spatial-temporal characteristics of PM_(2.5) in China:A city-level perspective analysis

Haze pollution has become a severe environmental problem in the daily life of the people in China. PM2.s makes a significant contribution to poor air quality. The spatio-temporal features of China＇s PM2.s concentrations should be investigated. This paper, based on ob- served data from 945 newly located monitoring sites in 2014 and industrial working population data obtained from International Standard Industrial Classification （ISIC）, reveals the spa- tio-temporal variations of PM2.5 concentrations in China and the correlations among different industries. We tested the spatial autocorrelation of PM2.5 concentrations in the cities of China with the spatial autocorrelation model. A correlation coefficient to examine the correlativity of PM2.5 concentrations and 23 characteristic variables for 190 cities in China in 2014, from which the most important ones were chosen, and then a regression model was built to further reveal the social and economic factors affecting PMg.g concentrations. Results：（1） The Hu Huanyong Line and the Yangtze River were the E-W divide and S-N divide between high and low values of China. （2） The PM2.5 concentrations shows great seasonal variation, which is high in autumn and winter but low in spring and summer. The monthly average shows a U-shaped pattern, and daily average presents a periodic and impulse-shaped change. （3） PM2.5 concentrations had a distinct characteristic of spatial agglomeration. The North China Plain was the predominant region of agglomeration, and the southeastern coastal area had stable good air quality.
