The lattice parameters a and the molar volumes Km of Pb-based a-phase solid solutions in the Pb-Sn-Cd ternary system were determined by means of X-ray diffraction. The lattice parameters a vary linearly with the molar fractions, the molar volumes show a positive deviation from the ideal solution behaviour, and the contribution of the solute Cd to the excess molar volumes V is much larger than that of the solute Sn. According to Vegard' s law orsub-regular solution model, the relationship between the experimental data of a or Vm andthe compositions of alloy is obtained by the mathematic regressive method, the prediction precisions of the both formulae are within the limits of experiment error.

Prediction of molar volume of aliphatic compounds using edge adjacency index

The density of molten Ni-Al-Co alloys was measured in the temperature range of 1714～1873K using a modified pycnometric method, and the molar volume of molten alloys was analyzed. The density of molten Ni-Al-Co alloys was found to decrease with increasing temperature and Co concentration in alloys. The molar volume of molten Ni-Al-Co alloys increases with increasing Co concentration in alloys. The molar volume of molten Ni-Al-Co alloys shows a negative deviation from the linear molar volume.

Edge adjacency index is dervied from the Randic-type graph theoretical invariant. This index is highly correlated (r= 0. 995 5) with the molar volume of 141 aliphatic compounds including alkyl halides (64), thioethers (13), ethers (21), ketones (32), aldehydes (9), tertiary amines (2). It is very simple to calculate, and also has good discrimination between isomers. molar volumes of the tested compounds can be predicted more accurately by regression equation based on 6 index than valence connectivity indices.

The density of liquid binary Ni-Mo alloys with molybdenum concentration from 0 to 20% (mass fraction) wasmeasured by a modified sessile drop method. It has been found that the density of the liquid Ni-Mo alloys decreaseswith increasing temperature, but increases with the increase of molybdenum concentration in the alloys. The molarvolume of liquid Ni-Mo binary alloys increases with the increase of temperature and molybdenum concentration. Thepartial molar volume of molybdenum in Ni-Mo binary alloy has been approximately calculated as [13.18-2.65×10^(-3)T+(-47.94+3.10×10^(-2)T)×10^(-2)X_(Mo)]×10^(-6)m^3·mol^(-1). The molar volume of Ni-Mo alloy determined inthe present work shows a negative deviation from the ideal linear mixing molar volume.

The density of Ni-AI alloys in both liquid state and solid-liquid coexistence state was measured with a modified pycnometric method. It was found that the density of Ni-AI alloys decreases with increasing temperature and Al concentration in the alloys. The molar volume of liquid Ni-AI binary alloys increases with the increase of temperature and Al concentration. The partial molar volume of Al in Ni-AI binary alloy was calculated approximately. The molar volume of liquid Ni-AI alloy determined in the present work shows a negative deviation from the ideal linear molar volume.

NdF3-LiF melts are commonly used in the electrolysis process of metallic neodymium production. Research on the density and ionic structure of the electrolyte is important for its close connection with the electrolysis mechanism and process. A program CALTPP(CALculation of ThermoPhysical Properties)is developed in order to provide various thermophysical properties such as diffusion coefficient,interfacial energy,thermal conductivity,viscosity and molar volume mainly as function of temperature and *** thermophysical properties are very important inputs for microstructure simulations and mechanical property *** general structure of CALTPP is briefly described,and the CALPHAD-type models for the description of these thermophysical properties are *** CALTPP program contains the input module,calculation and/or optimization modules and output module.A few case studies including(a)the calculation of diffusion coefficient and optimization of atomic mobility,(b)the calculation of solid/liquid,coherent solid/solid and liquid/liquid interfacial energies,(c)the calculation of thermal conductivity,(d)the calculation of viscosity,and(e)the establishment of molar volume database in binary and ternary alloys are demonstrated to show the features of *** is expected that CALTPP will be an effective contribution in both scientific research and education.

Density of molten Ni and Ni-W alloys was measured in the temperature range of 1773-1873 K with a sessile drop method. The density of molten Ni and Ni-W alloys trends to decrease with increasing temperature. The density and molar volume of the alloys trend to increase with increasing W concentration in the alloys. The calculation result shows an ideal mixing of Ni-W alloys.

The density of Ni-Cr alloy in the mushy state has been measured using the modified sessile drop method. The density of Ni-Cr alloy in the mushy state was found to decrease with increasing temperature and Cr concentration in alloy. The molar volume of Ni-Cr alloy in the mushy state therefore increases with increasing the Cr concentration in alloy. The ratio of the difference of density divided by the temperature difference between liquidus and solidus temperatures decreases with increasing Cr concentration. The density of the alloy increased with the precipitation of a solid phase in alloy during the solidification process. The temperature dependence of the density of alloy in the mushy state was not linear but biquadratic.
