Nonmetric Traits in Permanent Teeth as Clues to Ethnicity in Vidarbha Subpopulation to Aid Forensic Profiling:Pilot Study

Introduction:Nonmetric dental traits have a crucial role in ethnic classification of populations that help in forensic racial identification.Many studies have demonstrated the differences in the expression and frequency of dental traits between various ethnic groups for ancestry determination in the context of forensic dental anthropology.The present study is an attempt to assess the frequency and variation in nonmetric traits for establishing ethnicity in the Vidarbha subpopulation.Aim:The aim of the study was to assess the frequency and variation of nonmetric traits in permanent teeth for establishing ethnicity in the Vidarbha subpopulation.Materials and Methods:Participants of the Vidarbha subpopulation were selected by random sampling method.molars,premolars,and incisors were evaluated for frequency of nonmetric traits,and variations were graded according to Dentoanthropological System of State University of Arizona criteria.Descriptive statistics,Chi-square test,and Student’s t-test were used for analysis of data.Results:The most common occlusal morphology in mandibular first and second molar was 5 cusp and 4 cusp,respectively,with the“+”groove pattern.Cusp 3 and cusp 4 were observed frequently in the maxillary molars.One lingual cusp was most commonly seen in mandibular premolars show while incisors showed faint shoveling.Conclusion:Our study concludes that nonmetric traits were present and showed variation in permanent maxillary and mandibular teeth among the Vidarbha subpopulation.Cusp 5 and Cusp 4 in first and second mandibular molars,respectively,groove pattern“+”and grade 1 protostylid were the most frequent grades observed in permanent mandibular molars.One lingual cusp was most commonly seen in mandibular premolars and faint shoveling was a notable feature in incisors of this population.

Tracing PRX1+cells during molar formation and periodontal ligament reconstruction

Neural crest-derived mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)are known to play an essential function during tooth and skeletal development.PRX1+cells constitute an important MSC subtype that is implicated in osteogenesis.However,their potential function in tooth development and regeneration remains elusive.In the present study,we first assessed the cell fate of PRX1+cells during molar development and periodontal ligament(PDL)formation in mice.Furthermore,single-cell RNA sequencing analysis was performed to study the distribution of PRX1+cells in PDL cells.The behavior of PRX1+cells during PDL reconstruction was investigated using an allogeneic transplanted tooth model.Although PRX1+cells are spatial specific and can differentiate into almost all types of mesenchymal cells in first molars,their distribution in third molars is highly limited.The PDL formation is associated with a high number of PRX1+cells;during transplanted teeth PDL reconstruction,PRX1+cells from the recipient alveolar bone participate in angiogenesis as pericytes.Overall,PRX1+cells are a key subtype of dental MSCs involved in the formation of mouse molar and PDL and participate in angiogenesis as pericytes during PDL reconstruction after tooth transplantation.

Endodontic treatment of the maxillary first molar with palatal canal variations: A case report and review of literature

BACKGROUND Root canal variations frequently occur in maxillary first molars,which greatly affects the success of its treatment.The second mesiobuccal(MB)root canal is the most common root canal variation.However,only a few studies have been conducted on palatal root canal variations.Herein,we report the presence of two separate root canals in a palatal root of the maxillary first molar.CASE SUMMARY A 39-year-old woman complained of pain in the maxillary right region for 1 year,which recently worsened.Clinical examination revealed a poorly restored right maxillary first molar and caries detected at the filling marginal.Cold and heat test results indicated severe pain in the right maxillary first molar.The patient was diagnosed with irreversible pulpitis,and subsequently,root canal treatment(RCT)was performed.In total,five root canals were found in the maxillary first molar,including two separate root canals in the palatal root.RCT was successfully performed using an endodontic microscope and cone-beam computed tomography(CBCT).The CBCT image revealed a vertucci type I canal morphology in the distobuccal root,while the MB and palatal root canals were typeⅣ.At the 1-mo follow-up,the maxillary first molar was completely asy-mptomatic,and the X-ray results indicated a successful RCT.Finally,the ceramic crown restoration was performed.CONCLUSION An endodontic microscope and CBCT are useful in effectively identifying and treating root canal variations.

THE T6P-SnRK1 SIGNALING PATHWAY IN PLANTS,The biosynthetic route for the synthesis of trehalose in plants is through a low-flux pathway that leads to the accumulation of micromolar amounts of trehalose 6-phosphate(T6P)and trehalose when sucrose is available.T6P accumulates in proportion to sucrose(Lunn et al.,2006)as an indispensable regulator of carbohydrate utilization(Schluepmann et al.,2003).At least some of the indispensability of T6P and its profound and widespread effects on plant growth and development can be explained through T6P inhibition of the SNF1-related protein kinase SnRK1(Zhang et al.,2009),a central regulator of plant responses to carbon and energy status.

Flapless immediate implant placement into fresh molar extraction socket using platelet-rich fibrin: A case report

BACKGROUND There are some challenges concerning immediate implant placement in the molar region.Platelet-rich fibrin(PRF),an autologous biomaterial,has been used widely for periodontal intra-bony defects,sinus augmentation,socket preservation,and gingival recession.However,the literature remains scarce for reports on immediate implants with PRF,particularly in the case of fresh molar extraction socket.CASE SUMMARY The patient was a 43-year-old woman with maxillary molar vertical crown-root fracture.She underwent flapless immediate implant placement into the fresh molar socket with PRF.At the follow-up visit 15 d post procedure,the vascularization of soft tissue was visible.There was no swelling or pain after the surgery.Six months postoperatively,the regeneration of bone and soft tissues was visible.Subsequently,the definitive restoration was placed.The patient was satisfied with the aesthetic outcomes.CONCLUSION The flapless immediate implant placement into the fresh molar socket with PRF is a feasible procedure.This case report demonstrates that PRF promotes bone and soft tissue regeneration apart from having an enhanced anti-inflammatory ability.Furthermore,the procedure involves a minimally invasive technique,thus reducing the surgical complexity.

Five-year outcomes of immediate implant placement for mandibular molars with and without chronic apical periodontitis:A retrospective study

BACKGROUND Most physicians consider molars with chronic apical periodontitis(CAP)lesions as contraindications for immediate implant placement.At the patient’s request,we perform immediate implant placement of the mandibular molars with CAP in clinical practice.AIM To retrospectively analyze and compare the 5-year outcomes of immediate implant placement of the mandibular molars with CAP and those without obvious inflammation.METHODS The clinical data of patients with immediate implant placement of the mandibular molars in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery,the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University,from June 2015 to June 2017 were collected.The patients were divided into CAP(n=52)and no-CAP(n=45)groups.Changes in bone mineral density and bone mass around implants were analyzed 5 years after implant restoration.RESULTS At 5 years after implantation,the peri-implant bone mineral density was 528.2±78.8 Hounsfield unit(HU)in the CAP group and 562.6±82.9 HU in the no-CAP group(P=0.126).Marginal bone resorption around implants did not differ significantly between the two groups,including buccal(P=0.268)or lingual(P=0.526)resorption in the vertical direction or buccal(P=0.428)or lingual(P=0.560)resorption in the horizontal direction.Changes in the peri-implant jump space did not differ significantly between the two groups,including the buccal(P=0.247)or lingual(P=0.604)space in the vertical direction or buccal(P=0.527)or lingual(P=0.707)space in the horizontal direction.The gray value of cone-beam computed tomography measured using Image J software can reflect the bone mineral density.In the CAP area,the gray values of the bone tissue immediately and 5 years after implant placement differed significantly from those of the surrounding bone tissue(Pmolars with CAP can achieve satisfactory 5-year clinical results,without significant differences in the complications,survival rate,or bone tissue condition fr

Hydrogen bonding interactions between ethylene glycol and water:density,excess molar volume,and spectral study

Studies of the density and the excess molar volume of ethylene glycol (EG)-water mixtures were carried out to illustrate the hydrogen bonding interactions of EG with water at different temperatures. The re-sults suggest that a likely complex of 3 ethylene glycol molecules bonding with 4 water molecules in an ethylene glycol-water mixture (EGW) is formed at the maximal excess molar volume,which displays stronger absorption capabilities for SO2 when the concentration of SO2 reaches 400×10?6 (volume ratio) in the gas phase. Meanwhile,FTIR and UV spectra of EGWs were recorded at various EG concentra-tions to display the hydrogen bonding interactions of EG with water. The FTIR spectra show that the stretching vibrational band of hydroxyl in the EGWs shifts to a lower frequency and the bending vibra-tional band of water shifts to a higher frequency with increasing the EG concentration,respectively. Furthermore,the UV spectra show that the electron transferring band of the hydroxyl oxygen in EG shows red shift with increasing the EG concentration. The frequency shifts in FTIR spectra and the shifts of absorption bands in UV absorption spectra of EGWs are interpreted as the strong hydrogen bonding interactions of the hydrogen atoms in water with the hydroxyl oxygen atoms of EG.
