Improving modeⅱdelamination resistance of curved CFRP laminates by a Pre-Hole Z-pinning(PHZ)process

This paper presents an experimental investigation of the modeⅱdelamination resistance of curved CFRP laminates reinforced with Z-pins.A Pre-Hole Z-pinning(PHZ)process is developed to reduce the in-plane damage of the Z-pinned *** microstructural observation of the Z-pinned laminate specimens indicates that the PHZ process can effectively decrease the defects including the Z-pin offset angle and the area of eyelet *** influences of the volume fraction and diameter of Z-pin on the fracture toughness and the delamination crack growth rate of the specimens under End Notch Flexure(ENF)loading are then determined *** test results show that Z-pin increases the interlayer stiffness of the *** delamination crack growth rate is reduced with the increase of Z-pin diameter and volume fraction,and a reduction up to 40%is achieved compared with the specimens without ***,the modeⅱfracture toughness is significantly improved with the increase of Z-pin volume *** Z-pin volume fraction increases by 1%,the achieved fracture toughness is about 200%higher compared to the unpinned laminates.

Unstable rock has threatened people’s life and possession *** it has great | significance to study types and instability conditions of unstable *** that propagates along controlled planes caused by loads is a key factor for failure of perilous *** the experiment,cracked chevron notched Brazilian disc(CCNBD) specimen configuration was used to test the fracture toughness under modeⅠand mixed mode *** the size effect of CCNBD specimens on fracture toughness is discussed based on chevron crack modeⅠ. Furthermore modeⅠfracture toughness of CSTBD specimens have been calculated by finite element software,then reliability of numerical solution is *** modeⅱfracture toughness has been calculated using a numerical *** numerical results indicate that the mode-Ⅱfracture toughness is related to both crack length and the loading angle.

Effects of delamination in drilling glass/polyester composite

Considering failures during machinery processes such as drilling,a precautionary analysis involving delamination and the corresponding dissipated energy is required,especially for composite *** this context,because of the complexity of both the analysis procedure and experimental test setup,most studies prefer to represent mode Ⅰ and Ⅲ interlaminar crack propagation instead of that involving mode Ⅱ.Therefore,in this study,the effect of mode Ⅱ delamination and corresponding interlaminar crack propagation was considered during the drilling process of multilayered glass/polyester composites using both numerical and experimental *** the experimental procedure,the mechanical properties of the glass/polyester specimens were obtained according to ASTM *** addition,the interlaminar mixed-mode(Ⅰ/Ⅱ)loadings were determined using an ARCAN test fixture so that the fracture toughness of glass/polyester could then be *** mode Ⅱ critical strain energy release rate(CSERR)was then obtained using an experimental test performed using an ARCAN fixture and the virtual crack closure technique(VCCT).It was determined that the numerical approach was in accordance with the experiments,and more than 95%of crack propagation could be attributed to mode Ⅱ compared to the two other modes.
