β-lactams are an important class of compounds owing to their presence in numerous biologically active *** are also highly important intermediates that can be elaborated into interesting compounds for potential use in organic and medicinal chemistry *** rigid structure of spirofluorenyl-β-lactam compounds also have good stability,unique biological activity and pharmacological ***,to explore efficient synthetic method for spirofluorenyl-β-lactam is ***,we have developed a cascade strategy from N-aryl fluorenone nitrones and methylenecyclopropanes through [3+2] cycloaddition,reduction,and subsequent acid-catalyzed ring contraction to prepare various spirofluorenyl-β-lactams in moderate ***,the spirofluorenyl-β-lactam could be easily converted to two novel spiroazetidine and spiroquinolinone scaffolds by simple operations.
