The Islamic world has its own dreams of resurgence and global influence. They know that most of the mega-networks that China envisions will retrace the ancient routes of Muslim traders, seafarers, and pilgrims-routes that form the sinews of a thriving world civilization that can become the equal of China and the West. Citizens of Muslim nations are well-aware that their governments are paying Beijing for these projects with their national patrimony, and they are demanding that the benefits accrue to ordinary people and their descendants.

Spatial Distribution of Plant-Associated Invertebrates and Environmental Bioassessment in a Natural Riverine Lake (Lake Fibreno, Central Italy)

Lake Fibreno is a Mediterranean riverine lake located in Central Italy and fed by large flows of groundwater and characterized by the presence of a wide reed stand area and of the only floating island of the South Europe. It is enclosed in a Natural Reserve recognized as Special Area of Conservation (SAC-IT6050015) for the presence of habitats and species (92/43/EEC) of relevant scientific interest. In this paper, we compare the plant-associated meio-macrobenthic invertebrates among sites with different environmental characteristics. Both vegetation and invertebrates of Lake Fibreno were well diversified and abundant and were composed of a mixing of species typical of lentic and lotic waters. Our results show that a gradient of orthophosphate and nitrite contents and current velocity appeared to be the driver factors affecting the flora and fauna spatial distribution at the sampling sites. To obtain a bioassessment of the ecological quality of the vegetation zone, we compared the riverine Lake Fibreno with typical lentic lakes previously studied in Central Italy. We selected metrics, such as macrophyte belt extent and taxa richness, invertebrate species richness and Shannon diversity, ETOM (Ephemeropta + Trichoptera + Odonata + Mollusca), ETOC (Ephemeropta + Trichoptera + Odonata + Coleoptera) and LCrM (Large Crustacea + Mollusca). The comparison indicated a good ecological status of the vegetation zone of Lake Fibreno mainly due to the continuous washout effects (dilution and fast water removal) which reduce the nutrient content available for phytoplankton and maintain the high transparency and good oxygenation of the lake waters.

Linear regression and moving averages were used to analyze the patterns of rainfall in eight station in the district of Ramallah and Al-Bireh for the period from 1950’s to present. Data analysis showed that a ten years period variability of rainfall but with consistency. It also showed that rainfall in the studied area is not decreasing as mentioned in several previous studies. This area is mountainous and enjoys the Mediterranean climates.

The Jewish narratives in Shakespearean drama can be seen as a reflective projection of the playwright’s thoughts on the country’s maritime industry. In the latter half of the 16th century, the government adopted an expansion policy in the economy, and the Elizabethan government established trade relations with Turkey, which secured the Mediterranean’s irreplaceable position in English trade. As a result, English playwrights of the time started to focus on the Mediterranean trade circle to cater to England’s trade policy. At the same time, as Jews played a crucial role in the Mediterranean trade circle during this period, these playwrights affirmed the positive role of the maritime industry by endowing Jews with wealthy merchant identities, which alleviated the anxiety of the public towards the maritime industry and catering to the state’s trade expansion policy.

Objectives: This study investigates the prevalence of obesity in children with familial Mediterranean fever (FMF). Material and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 70 patients with FMF whose cases had been followed in our Pediatric Nephrology and Rheumatology Unit. The height and weight measurements of children with FMF were obtained and body mass index was calculated. Results: The mean body mass index was 16.7± 2.4 in the boys, and 17.4±2.9 in the girls. Nine of the children (five boys, four girls) were found to be overweight, a rate of 12.8% in FMF patients. Obesity was not detected in FMF patients. Conclusions: We think that there are some unligteening molecular mechanisms that prevent obesity in FMF patients. Due to the limited number of patients in this study, further research involving more patients are needed.

转磨作为粮食加工工具，有力地推动了小麦在中国被广泛接纳的进程，对中国饮食文化的发展有着深远影响。本文分析了内地考古出土转磨入料口的演变与发展过程，并与其他地区的地中海类型转磨相比较，揭示我国内地转磨技术拥有完整的形成、传播和发展过程，应属于独立发明。东西方转磨不同的技术追求，表明中国内地类型转磨是在小麦逐渐融入本土作物——主食传统的过程中发明的。内地转磨的传播过程则表明，其技术传播依赖于小麦种植的发展以及人口的跨区域流动。

The Merguellil catchment is a typical Mediterranean semi-arid basin which undergoes regular water shortage aggravated by current drought.During the last decades the continuous construction of small and large dams within the watershed has altered its natural hydrologic regime.The work presented here attempts to simulate the actual water and nutrient balance using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool(SWAT)model. Two alternatives scenarios were further generated in order to improve the availability of water in terms of quantity and quality.The first one regards the removal of ponds and reservoirs from the upstream area.
