Overlooked impact of precursor mixing:Implications in the electrochemical performance of battery electrode materials

Solid-state reactions are an essential part of the synthesis of various cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries(LIBs).Despite the simplicity and effectiveness for mass production,a subtle variation in synthesis conditions can often give rise to unexpectedly different physical properties,significantly affecting the electrochemical performance of electrode ***,this aspect has long been overlooked in the LIB community,which should focus on advancement in understanding the influence of synthesis *** solid-state reactions occur only at the interface of precursor materials,maximizing the interfacial contact area between mixed precursor powders is *** milling and/or mixing are common practices that have been performed in both academia and industry for this *** the common belief that this pre-treatment before calcination would be of great benefit for the preparation of high-performance LIB materials,we revealed in this work that this practice is not always successful for this *** our case study of the preparation of LiCoO_(2),we demonstrated that mechanical mixing-a routinely implemented process for homogeneous mixing of precursors-can be harmful if it is performed without assuring optimal working conditions for *** underlying reasons for this surprising result are elucidated in this work,and we hope that this new insight can help avoid the potential pitfall of routine implementations performed for LIB materials.

New Fabrication and mechanical Properties of Styrene-Butadiene Rubber/Carbon Nanotubes Nanocomposite

A novel technology to prepare styrene-butadiene rubber （SBR）/carbon nanotubes （CNTs） composites was developed by combining a spray drying method and a subsequent mechanical mixing process. The cross-linking degrees of the vulcanized composites increased gradually with the additive CNTs contents. By comparing with those of the pure SBR composites, the mechanical properties such as tensile strength, tear strength and hardness of the composites filled with CNTs at certain contents were dramatically improved almost by 600%, 250% and 70%, respectively. The fabrication of the CNTs filled with SBR composites by combination of the spray drying method and subsequent mechanical mixing process was effective for enhancing the reinforcement effects of CNTs in rubbers. The novel technology can also open a new route for the modification and reinforcement on the nanocomposites with large amount of CNTs.

Synthesis of Au-Cu Nano-Alloy from Monometallic Colloids by Simultaneous Pulsed Laser Targeting and Stirring

Experimental work has been focused on the formation of alloyed Au-Cu nanoparticles under simultaneous laser exposure and mechanical stirring of mixed monometallic colloids, here referred to as dual procedure. As a feed for the dual procedure, Au and Cu monometallic nanoparticle colloids have been using a laser ablation technique. To accomplish this, bulk targets were ablated with 1064 nm wavelength Nd: YAG laser in a pure acetone(99.99%) environment. Ultraviolet-visible optical absorption spectrometry, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and X-ray fluorescence technique have been used to characterize the nanoparticles. It has been found that experimental conditions such as stirring and laser parameters strongly affect the synthesized particle properties, including the size, shape, composition and stability of the nanoparticles. Alloy nanoparticles containing 39% Au – 61% Cu have also been prepared in the same process, but in two forms of a homogeneous alloy and a core-shell structure.

Eclogite facies cataclasite is recognized at Yangkou in the Chinese Su-Lu ultrahigh-P metamorphic *** cataclasite dykes(5à15 cm wide)are bounded by mylonite/ultramylonite zones,cutting through unfoliated metagabbro and/or *** cataclasite veins(generally 2–4 cm wide)are free of mylonite boundary zones,cutting through the foliation of the high-P host *** dykes and veins are dominated by eclogite fragments consisting of debris of omphacite,garnet,quartz,phengite and kyanite,in a matrix of variable amounts of a schist rich in quartz,phengite and *** clasts in the fragments are welded and overgrown by more Ca-rich garnet containing mineral inclusions different from those in the garnet *** micropoikilitic texture of garnet is typical of eclogitic ***-sealing K-feldspar veinlets in the cataclasite dykes also imply frictional or shock-induced melting of *** modal abundances in the cataclasite and the schist imply that the dykes formed by flow of the omphacite and garnet-dominated cataclasites into the fractures during seismic faulting,while the lower density minerals(quartz,phengite and kyanite)were largely left in the ultramylonite boundary *** dykes have the same composition as their host rocks,except for slightly lower Si and large ion lithophile elements and higher Mg,Ca,Cr,Co and ***,probably spurted from the nearby ultramafic rock,is found as rare particles in the cataclasite *** indicates that material exchange occurred by mechanical mixing between the dykes and the ultramafic rock during seismic *** Cr-rich eclogite minerals grown on the chromite are evidence for coseismic high-P ***-lived crystal growth is implied by the fine grain sizes of the eclogite minerals and very limited element diffusion between the garnet clasts and their *** fact that the host rocks are more hydrated implies that the dyke formation was not related to fluid infiltr
