Intrinsic correlation between the generalized phase equilibrium condition and mechanical behaviors in hydrate-bearing sediments

The phase equilibrium and mechanical behaviors of natural gas hydrate-bearing sediment are essential for gas recovery from hydrate *** heating closed systems,the temperature-pressure path of hydrate-bearing sediment deviates from that of pure bulk hydrate,reflecting the porous media effect in phase equilibrium.A generalized phase equilibrium equation was established for hydrate-bearing sediments,which indicates that both capillary and osmotic pressures cause the phase equilibrium curve to shift leftward on the temperature-pressure *** contrast to bulk hydrate,hydrate-bearing sediment always contains a certain amount of unhydrated water,which keeps phase equilibrium with the hydrate within the hydrate stability *** changes in temperature and pressure,a portion of pore hydrate and unhydrated water may transform into each other,affecting the shear strength of hydrate-bearing sediment.A shear strength model is proposed to consider not only hydrate saturation but also the change in temperature and pressure of hydrate-bearing *** model is validated by experimental data with various hydrate saturation,temperature and pressure *** deformation induced by partial dissociation was studied through depressurization tests under constant effective *** reduction in gas pressure within the hydrate stability field indeed caused sediment *** dissociation-induced deformation can be reasonably estimated as the difference in volume between hydrate-bearing and hydrate-free sediments from the compression curves.

Martensitic transformation involved mechanical behaviors and wide hysteresis of NiTiNb shape memory alloys

On the basis of thermoelastic martensitic transformation involved,the mechanical behaviors of NiTiNb shape memory alloys were experimentally studied and their wide hysteresis effect was theoretically *** was found that even at the same temperature NiTiNb shape memory alloys perform different mechanical behaviors when under different *** addition,the yielding behavior for the reorientation of martensite is dependent on the martensitic transformation temperature of NiTiNb *** alloy with lower MS temperature exhibits lower yield stress for the reorientation of *** to kinetic and thermodynamic analysis of thermoelastic martensitic transformations,a relationship between the relaxation of elastic energy and the hysteresis expansion was *** is suggested that the mechanism for wide hysteresis of NiTiNb shape memory alloys is predominantly attributed to the Nb element dissolved in the matrix of NiTi(Nb)phase,rather than the precipitated b-Nb *** mechanism gains support from the present experimental study that the NiTiNb alloys with low Nb content exhibit wide transformation hysteresis upon a proper pre-deformation.

Effects of different pull-out loading rates on mechanical behaviors and acoustic emission responses of fully grouted bolts

Due to the influence of mining disturbance stress,it is of great significance to better understand the bearing characteristics of fully grouted bolts under different pull-out loading *** this purpose,a series of laboratory pull-out tests were conducted to comprehensively investigate the effects of different pull-out loading rates on the mechanical performance and failure characteristics of fully grouted *** results show that the mechanical performance of the anchored specimen presents obvious loading rate dependence and shear enhancement *** the increase of the pull-out loading rates,the maximum pull-out load increases,the displacement and time corresponding to the maximum pull-out load *** accumulated acoustic emission(AE)counts,AE energy and AE events all decrease with the increase of the pull-out loading *** AE peak frequency has obvious divisional distribution characteristics and the amplitude is mainly distributed between 50-80 *** the increase of the pull-out loading rates,the local strain of the anchoring interface increases and the failure of the anchoring interface transfers to the interior of the resin *** accumulated AE counts are used to evaluate the damage parameter of the anchoring interface during the whole pull-out *** analytical results are in good agreement with the experimental *** research results may provide guidance for the support design and performance monitoring of fully grouted bolts.

Analysis of mechanical behaviors of big pipe roof for shallow buried large-span tunnel

A series of researches on mechanical behaviors of big pipe roof for shallow large-span loess tunnel were carried out based on the Wenxiang tunnel in Zhengzhou—Xi'an Special Passenger Railway. The longitudinal deformations of the pipe roofs were monitored and the mechanical behaviors of the pipe roofs were analyzed at the test section. A new double-parameter elastic foundation beam model for pipe roof in shallow tunnels was put forward in Wenxiang tunnel. The measured values and the calculation results agreed well with each other,revealing the force-deformation law of big pipe roof in loess tunnel:At about 15 m in front of the excavating face,the pipe roof starts to bear the load;at about 15 m behind the excavating face,the force of the pipe roof tends to be stabilized;the longitudinal deformation of the whole pipe roofs is groove-shaped distribution,and the largest force of pipe roofs is at the excavating face. Simultaneously,the results also indicate that mechanical behaviors of pipe roof closely relate to the location of the excavation face,the footage of the tunnelling cycle and the mechanics parameters of pipe roof and rock. The conclusions can be reference for the design parameter optimization and the construction scheme selection of pipe roofs,and have been verified by the result of numerical analysis software FLAC3Dand deformation monitoring.

The AZ31/GW103 K bimetallic composite plates were prepared by co-extrusion of different combination types(sandwich extrusion type and double semicircle extrusion type),and effects of different extrusion combination types on the microstructure and mechanical properties of bimetallic composite plates were systematically *** results show that both the AZ31/GW103 K bimetallic composite plates prepared by different extrusion combination types have good metallurgical bonding,and changing the combination type does not affect the thickness of the interfacial transition layer of composite *** with the monolithic AZ31 and GW103 K extruded plates,co-extrusion can promote the dynamic recrystallization(DRX)of AZ31 and GW103 K components in composite plates,and double semicircular extrusion type has a better promotion effect on the DRX than sandwich extrusion *** addition,the texture of AZ31 in both monolithic AZ31 and AZ31/GW103 K/AZ31(A/G/A)plates is a typical(0002)basal texture,while that in the AZ31/GW103 K(A/G)composite plate shifts to the tangent direction(TD)of extruded *** with the monolithic AZ31 extruded plate,both the yield strength and tensile strength of A/G and A/G/A bimetallic composite plates are significantly *** strength of A/G/A composite plate is higher than that of A/G composite plate,but its elongation is ***,co-extrusion reduces the dislocation density of AZ31 and GW 103 K components in composite plates,and different extrusion combination types also affect the dislocation density.

Elastic-viscoplastic constitutive model for capturing the mechanical response of polymer composite at various strain rates

Recently, polymer composites, consisting of hard segments and soft segments blend, attract a broad research interest because of the high flow stress and large deformation under a high rate loading. They display an outstanding energy absorption capability for impact resistant engineering. In this paper,a physics-based elastic-viscoplastic constitutive model is developed which accounts the activation of molecular chains motion at different segments upon an applied stress as well as the rate dependency of mechanical properties. Accordingly, finite element simulations are conducted to derive the mechanical performance at various strain rates. It involves the linearly elastic deformation to yielding, softening behavior with a slight decrease of stress, plastic flow at a plateau stress accompanied by a considerable straining, densification with a fast increase of stress. The results achieved from model simulations match well with these obtained by experiments and the mechanical response in the strain rate range from 0.0001 s^(-1) to 8000 s^(-1) can be captured by this model. Finally, energy absorption capability of the polymer composite is discussed, and the physical mechanisms in material science are addressed by post-loading analysis. This work is full of interest to develop the constitutive model for designing the impact-resistant polymers and illustrating the dynamic mechanical response, which will promote the application of light-weight transparent protection structure against a high-speed impact.

This study aims to investigate the mechanical response and acoustic emission(AE)characteristic of pre-flawed sandstone under both monotonic and multilevel constant-amplitude cyclic ***,we explored how coplanar flaw angle and load type impact the strength and deformation behavior and microscopic damage *** indicated that being fluctuated before rising with increasing fissure angle under monotonic loading,the peak strength of the specimen first increased slowly and then steeply under cyclic *** effect of multilevel cyclic loading on the mechanical parameters was more *** a single fatigue stage,the specimen underwent greater deformation in early cycles,which subsequently *** variation pattern was also reflected by AE count/energy/*** behaviors were dominated by the fissure angle and load type and medium-scale crack accounted for 74.83%–86.44%of total *** with monotonic loading,crack distribution of specimen under cyclic loading was more ***,a simple model was proposed to describe the damage evolution of sandstone under cyclic ***,SEM images revealed that the microstructures at the fracture were mainly composed of intergranular fracture,and percentage of transgranular fracture jumped under cyclic loading due to the rapid release of elastic energy caused by high loading rate.

Mesoscale mechanical Properties and Influencing Factors of Concrete under Uniaxial Tension

Monte Carlo simulations were carried out to generate a mesoscale model of concrete with randomly packed aggregates with different shapes and *** mechanical properties of concrete specimens under uniaxial tensile loads were studied using statistical *** results indicated that the entire process of damage and failure of specimens exhibited mainly two failure types:fracture patternsⅠandⅡ.Furthermore,the influences of the aggregate content ratio,aggregate shape,aggregate size,interfacial transition zone(ITZ)strength,and porosity ratio on the concrete specimens were *** numerical simulation results showed that the elastic modulus of the concrete specimens increased approximately linearly with the aggregate volume ratio but decreased linearly with the porosity and was not affected by the ITZ *** tensile strength decreased with the increases in the aggregate content and porosity of the sample,but increased linearly with the ITZ *** addition,the aggregate shape led to a difference in the tensile strength of the concrete.

Effect of Ni-P content on microstructure and mechanical properties of Fe-Ni-P alloy

A series of Fe-Ni-P alloys with different Ni-P contents were prepared by micro-press sintering,and the influence of the contents on the final microstructure and mechanical properties was *** Fe-34(Ni,P)contains the highest Ni-P content(34.18 wt.%)and its relative density reaches 98.75%,which is attributed to the introduction of an appropriate amount of liquid phase during the sintering *** main phase of the sample is transformed from a to c phase under the gradual increment of Ni-P ***,a large number of phosphides that have strong inhibition on the migration and expansion of grain boundaries are precipitated on the matrix,and synergistic effect with low-temperature sintering results in partial grain *** samples with high Ni-P content have a high volume of c phase,which makes the sample show the optimal plasticity under the maximum compressive *** the fracture mode has also changed from brittle fracture to a mixed mode of brittle and ductile *** decrease in the proportion of a phase has a weakening effect on the strength,but the refinement of the grain and the increase in the phosphide are the factors that increase the strength,so that the degree of manifestation varies in different Ni-P levels.
