Antioxidant and antiglycation properties of two mango(mangifera indica L.) cultivars from Senegal

Objective: To evaluate the total phenolic contents, antioxidant and antiglycation activities of leaves, barks, roots and kernels from two cultivars of mangifera indica(Anacardiaceae). Methods: Total phenolic contents were determined by using Folin-Ciocalteu's method. The antioxidant activities were assessed by three different protocols including DPPH, oxygen radical absorbance capacity and iron(Ⅱ) chelation assays. In addition, in vitro bovine serum albumin/D-ribose assay was chosen to evaluate the antiglycation properties of the extracts. Results: All the investigated extracts were found to contain high level of total phenols as well as potent antioxidant activities. Kernel extracts showed the highest total phenol contents and DPPH radical scavenging activities whereas higher oxygen radical absorbance capacity values were observed for leave, root and bark extracts. Besides, extracts from leaves, roots and barks from both cultivars exhibited potent inhibitory effects against the formation of advanced glycation end products, with IC_(50) values lower than the standard positive control aminoguanidine. Conclusions: The potent antiglycation and antioxidative activities of these two mangifera indica cultivars suggest a possible role in targeting aging, diabetic complications and oxidative stress related diseases.

Evaluation of Acute Toxicity, Antioxidant and Antibacterial Potential of Leaves Extracts from Two Anacardiaceae’s Species: Lannea microcarpa Engl. &K. Krause and mangifera indica L.

Background: Leaves of mangifera indica L or Lannea microcarpa Engl. & K. Krause are used in traditional medicine in Burkina Faso to treat bacterial, parasitic or metabolic diseases. Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the acute general toxicity, antioxidant potential and antibacterial activitiy of leave’s aqueous extracts from Lannea microcarpa Engl. and K. Krause and mangifera indica L. The use of these plants in traditional medicine motivated our choice to lead scientific studies. Methods: The aqueous decoction of the leaves is the form of use recommended by traditional healers. We used the same type of extracts for studies. Acute toxicity was studied in NMRI strain mice, with the dose of 2000 mg/kg body weight, for each plant species. The antioxidant activity is evaluated by the method of reduction of radical DPPH. The phytochemical compounds were detected with specific reagent: Alcaloids with Dragendorff’s reagent, Flavonoids with ammonia (NH4OH), Polyphenols and tannins are revelated by ferric chloride (FeCl3). Saponosides were revelated by their foaming power property. Bacterial inhibiting activity is tested by measuring the diameters’ inhibition of extracts on reference strains. Results: The aqueous extracts were not toxic at the maximum dose of 2000 mg/kg body weight, for each plant species. The extracts showed an antioxidant activity with an IC50, 20 μg/ml for Lannea microcarpa and 18 μg/ml for mangifera indica. The extracts showed no bacterial activity on three strains of bacteria tested: Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus. The phytochemicals we have identified are for L. microcarpa: tannins and phenolics compounds, triterpenes, saponosides. We identified in M. indica’s extracts: tannins and phenolics compounds, triterpenes, saponosides and flavonoids.

Chenopodium album is an invasive weed in wheat fields in Egypt. The present study indicated the potentials for utilization of MILAE （mangifera indica leaves aqueous extract） at different concentrations （5%, 10%, 15% and 25%） to suppress the germination and growth of C. album in Petri dish experiment Results indicated that predictable degrees of inhibition in C album germination and growth rate of seedlings were accompanied with the increase in the concentration of MILAE. Zynamite^(■) (mangifera indica Leaf Extract)and Caffeine Act in a Synergistic Manner on Electrophysiological Parameters of Rat Central Nervous System

Zynamite®, a special extract from mangifera indica, exerted stimulatory properties on the central nervous system during a pilot study. The question arose if Zynamite®?would have a similar action on the central nervous system as caffeine. Two well established animal models were used: a) quantitation of spectral power of field potentials in the freely moving rat and b) induction of long term potentiation (LTP) in the hippocampus slice preparation ex vivo after one week of daily administration. In the presence of 25 mg/kg of Zynamite®, predominantly alpha2 and beta1 spectral frequencies were attenuated in all brain areas during the first hour after administration. Exactly this pattern of frequency changes had been observed in earlier studies with i.p. administration of caffeine. Discriminant analysis confirmed this similarity by projection of Zynamite®?and 0.5 mg/kg caffeine into close neighborhood and showing identical colours, which points to a similar mechanism of action in this analysis. In addition, when Zynamite®?was combined with very low doses of caffeine synergistic effects were observed. Since alpha2 waves are under the control of dopamine, activation of this neurotransmitter system might be responsible for the stimulating property of Zynamite®. These results are corroborated by the results from the ex vivo study using the hippocampus slice in vitro to follow changes in excitability in the presence of 0.5 mg/kg of caffeine, 25 mg/kg of Zynamite®?or their combination in comparison to Placebo after daily administration for one week. Both caffeine and Zynamite®?increased LTP. LTP relates to space and time dependent memory. From these studies it is evident that both caffeine and Zynamite®?act in similar ways on brain electrical activity, and have potential to improve cognitive function. A New Diarylheptanoid from Barks of mangifera indica

Objective To study the chemical constituents from the barks of mangifera indica. Methods The constituents were separated and purified by different methods of chromatography, and their structures were elucidated by IR, MS, 1D and 2D NMR techniques. Results Six compounds were isolated from the barks of M. indica. Their structures were identified as mangiferone(1), mangiferin(2), myricetin(3), myricitrin(4), rutin(5), and quercetin(6). Conclusion Mangiferone(1) is a new diarylheptanoid compound isolated from the barks of M. indica.

Allelopathy refers to the effects of one plant on an other plant and/or microorganisms due to chemicals released by them,or due to the breakdown of their *** showed that the aqueous extracts of mango could affect the gemination and growth of Zea mays, Echinochlo crusgalli and Digitaria sanguinalis,indicating that mangifera Andica had allelopathic effect on these ***,there was little research reports about the chemical constitutes and the function on *** leaves volatiles.

Construction of AFLP Molecular Marking System in mangifera indica L.

[Objective ] The study aimed to construct the AFLP molecular marking system in mangifera indica. [ Method ] Four varieties of mangifera indica were used to explore new ways for high-quality DNA, and AFLP analysis of 31 varieties of mangifera indica was carried out to detect the varietal genetic diversity. [ Result] 14 pairs of primers with stronger polymorphism, better banding patterns and higher resolution were screened out from 64 pairs of selective amplification primers. Then they were used to analyse the fingerprint of 31 varieties of mangifera indica, the results showed that the ratio of polymorphic bands amplificated by the 14 pairs of primers reached 97% in 31 varieties of mangifera.[ Conclusion] It was suggested that AFLP was suitable for detecting the polymorphism of mangifera indica resources.

Members of the Botryosphaeriaceae are well known fungi associated with dieback,canker and fruit rot on various hosts worldwide,including *** aim of this study was identify a large collection of Botryosphaeriaceae species associated with dieback and stem-end rot of mango in the semi-arid region of Northeastern Brazil,and compare the species in relation to mycelial growth,pathogenicity and virulence.A total of 115 isolates were sampled and based on morphology and DNA sequence data(ITS and EF1-α)seven taxa were identified,namely,Botryosphaeria dothidea,***,Fusicoccum fabicercianum,Neofusicoccum parvum,*** ***,Neoscytalidium dimidiatum and Pseudofusicoccum *** and *** were the most commonly isolated species,which represented 37%and 33%of all isolates *** is reported for the first time in association with mango diseases *** were significant differences among the species obtained in this study in relation to optimum temperature for mycelial growth and mycelial growth *** species were pathogenic on mango *** were significant differences in virulence among the species,with *** and *** being the most virulent species,while *** was the least virulent.

Assessment of the Genetic Relationship and Diversity of Mango and Its Relatives by cpISSR Marker

Chloroplast inter-simple sequence repeat markers in mango were developed and used to analyze the genetic relationship and diversity of mango and its relatives. Thirty-six mango cultivars （mangifera indica L.） and its relative species collected from the fruit germplasm collection in the Guangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences, China, were examined by ISSR-PCR with chloroplast DNA （cpDNA）. Eight better primers for chloroplast DNA that provided reproducible, polymorphic DNA amplification patterns were screened from 50 ISSR primers and used for UPGMA analysis. According to the band patterns with 8 primers for chloroplast DNA, all cultivars tested were distinguished from each other and these showed ample genetic diversity; the average percentage of polymorphism was 77.2%. The 36 samples could be clustered into four groups by UPGMA analysis at the coefficient 0.74. The results indicated that the cplSSR marker was a new powerful tool for the identification of mango cultivars or its relative species, and their genetic relationship analysis and diversity evaluation.
