Geometric error,mainly due to imperfect geometry and dimensions of machine components,is one of the major error sources of machine *** that geometric error has significant effects on the machining quality of manufactured parts,it has been a popular topic for academic and industrial research for many years.A great deal of research work has been carried out since the 1970s for solving the problem and improving the machining *** have studied how to measure,detect,model,identify,reduce,and compensate the geometric *** paper presents a thorough review of the latest research activities and gives an overview of the state of the art in understanding changes in machine tool performance due to geometric *** advances in measuring the geometrical errors of machine tools are summarized,and different kinds of error identification methods of translational axes and rotation axes are illustrated ***,volumetric geometric error modeling,tracing,and compensation techniques for five-axis machine tools are emphatically ***,research challenges in order to improve the volumetric accuracy of machine tools are also highlighted.

machine tools are one of the most representative machining systems in *** energy consumption of machine tools has been a research hotspot and frontier for green low-carbon ***,previous research merely regarded the material removal(MR)energy as useful energy consumption and ignored the useful energy consumed by thermal control(TC)for maintaining internal thermal stability and machining *** pursuit of energy-efficient,high-precision machining,more attention should be paid to the energy consumption of TC and the coupling relationship between MR and ***,the cutting energy efficiency model considering the coupling relationship is established based on the law of conservation of *** index of energy consumption ratio of TC is proposed to characterize its effect on total energy ***,the heat characteristics are analyzed,which can be adopted to represent machining *** study indicates that TC is the main energy-consuming process of the precision milling machine tool,which overwhelms the energy consumption of *** forced cooling mode of TC results in a 7%reduction in cutting energy *** analysis shows that heat dissipation positively contributes 54.1%to machining accuracy,whereas heat generation negatively contributes 45.9%.This paper reveals the coupling effect of MR and TC on energy efficiency and machining *** can provide a foundation for energyefficient,high-precision machining of machine tools.

Estimation of Three-Dimensional Volumetric Errors of Numerically Controlled machine tools by a Tracking Interferometer

This paper presents the estimation of three-dimensional volumetric errors of a machining center by using a tracking interferometer. A tracking interferometer is a laser interferometer with the mechanism to steer the laser direction to follow a target retroreflector. Based on the triangulation principle, the three-dimensional position of the target can be estimated from measured laser displacements. Its capability to measure three-dimensional positioning errors for arbitrary trajectories is important for the indirect measurement of the machine＇s kinematic model. This paper presents experimental investigation of the estimation accuracy of the multilateration-based measurement by a tracking interferometer. A tracking interferometer developed by a part of the authors is used in experiments. In the present experiment, the measured volume of target positions was 100 mm × 100 mm × 100 mm. The estimation accuracy of targets within this volume was not sufficiently high compared to the positioning error of the measured machine tool. The results of the experiment and simulation show that the estimation uncertainty is dependent on tracking interferometer locations relative to target locations. Error sensitivity analysis shows that wider distribution of tracker positions in XY improves the estimation accuracy.

By eliminating the need for externally applied coolant, internally cooled turning tools offer potential health, safety and cost benefits in many types of machining operation. As coolant flow is completely controlled, tool temperature measurement becomes a practical proposition and can be used to find and maintain the optimum machining conditions. This also requires an intelligent control system in the sense that it must be adaptable to different tool designs, work piece materials and machining conditions. In this paper, artificial neural networks (ANN) are assessed for their suitability to perform such a control function. Experimental data for both conventional tools used for dry machining and internally cooled tools is obtained and used to optimise the design of an ANN. A key finding is that both experimental scatter characteristic of turning and the range of machining conditions for which ANN control is required have a large effect on the optimum ANN design and the amount of data needed for its training. In this investigation, predictions of tool temperature with an optimised ANN were found to be within 5°C of measured values for operating temperatures of up to 258°C. It is therefore concluded that ANN’s are a viable option for in-process control of turning processes using internally controlled tools.

Parallel kinematics machine （PKM） is advantageous over the serial machine tools in processing the complex-surface products. A manufacturing service system for PKM is developed to provide the services of the complex-surface machining for potential geographically-dispersed manufacturing enterprises. In order to easily in- tegrate the external system, Web services are used to encapsulate post-processing functions of PKM legacy sys- tems, including compilation, workspace calculation, interfere calibration, and kinematics transformation. A ser- vice-oriented architecture（SOA） is proposed for the cooperative work between the PKM system and its client. The workflow and the function module of this manufacturing service system are presented. An example shows that as a result of SOA and loose coupling, such a Web service-based manufacturing service system is easier to in- tegrate and interoperate with its client. Meanwhile, the system decreases the manufacturing cost and improves the efficiency than its former kind of distributed system.

Simulation of Energy Consumption of machine Tool Motion for 3-Axis Machining

In recent years, the shortage of the energy source is a serious problem in the world. Thus, the reduction of the energy consumption in manufacturing fields has been demanded. The energy consumption of NC machine tools has been also focused on. However, the energy consumption of the machine tool motion of each control axis during machining process has not been considered. In this study, we focus on the energy consumption during the machining process and we proposed the simulation model of the energy consumption of the feed drive systems of NC machine tool. Based on the proposed model, the energy consumption during the machining motion was simulated and evaluated. From these results, if the CAD/CAM systems can generate the tool paths considering about the energy consumption of NC machine tools, the energy consumption will be reduced without replacing or overhaul the machine tools.
