Metasurfaces,also known as 2D artificial metamaterials,are attracting great attention due to their unprecedented performances and functionalities that are hard to achieve by conventional diffractive or refractive *** their sub-wavelength optical scatterers,metasurfaces have been utilized to freely modify different characteristics of incident light such as amplitude,polarization,phase,and *** to traditional bulky lenses,metasurface lenses possess the advantages of flatness,light weight,and compatibility with semiconductor manufacture *** have been widely applied to a range of scenarios including imaging,solar energy harvesting,optoelectronic detection,*** this review,we will first introduce the fundamental design principles for metalens,and then report recent theoretical and experimental progress with emphasis on methods to correct chromatic and monochromatic ***,typical applications of metalenses and corresponding design rules will be presented,followed by a brief outlook on the prospects and challenges of this field.

Metalens with tilted structures for high-efficiency focusing at large-angle incidences

The metalens has attracted remarkable attention due to its ultra-thin and ultra-light characteristics,which indicate great potential for compact ***,the limited efficiency at a large angle incidence severely hinders the application of wide-angle focusing and imaging,which is pursued in the fast-developing imaging ***,new strategies to improve the lens performance at large incident angles are in *** this work,we propose tilted structures for largeangle focusing with improved *** based on dynamic phase and geometric phase are designed and systematically characterized by numerical *** show that tilted structures of unit cells significantly improve the lens performance at oblique *** detail,the focusing efficiency of the metalens with tilted structures is increased over 25%at 30°incidence,as well as the modulation transfer *** addition,we develop a hybrid metalens array achieving highly efficient wide-angle imaging up to 120°.We believe this design provides a feasible route toward wide-field and high-performance imaging applications.

Optical imaging systems have greatly extended human visual capabilities, enabling the observation and understanding of diverse phenomena. Imaging technologies span a broad spectrum of wavelengths from x-ray to radio frequencies and impact research activities and our daily lives. Traditional glass lenses are fabricated through a series of complex processes, while polymers offer versatility and ease of production. However, modern applications often require complex lens assemblies, driving the need for miniaturization and advanced designs with micro- and nanoscale features to surpass the capabilities of traditional fabrication methods. Three-dimensional (3D) printing, or additive manufacturing, presents a solution to these challenges with benefits of rapid prototyping, customized geometries, and efficient production, particularly suited for miniaturized optical imaging devices. Various 3D printing methods have demonstrated advantages over traditional counterparts, yet challenges remain in achieving nanoscale resolutions. Two-photon polymerization lithography (TPL), a nanoscale 3D printing technique, enables the fabrication of intricate structures beyond the optical diffraction limit via the nonlinear process of two-photon absorption within liquid resin. It offers unprecedented abilities, e.g. alignment-free fabrication, micro- and nanoscale capabilities, and rapid prototyping of almost arbitrary complex 3D nanostructures. In this review, we emphasize the importance of the criteria for optical performance evaluation of imaging devices, discuss material properties relevant to TPL, fabrication techniques, and highlight the application of TPL in optical imaging. As the first panoramic review on this topic, it will equip researchers with foundational knowledge and recent advancements of TPL for imaging optics, promoting a deeper understanding of the field. Large second-harmonic vortex beam generation with quasi-nonlinear spin–orbit interaction

A harmonic vortex beam is a typical vector beam with a helical wavefront at harmonic frequencies(e.g.,second and third harmonics). It provides an additional degree of freedom beyond spin-and orbitalangular momentum, which may greatly increase the capacity for communicating and encoding information. However, conventional harmonic vortex beam generators suffer from complex designs and a low nonlinear conversion efficiency. Here, we propose and experimentally demonstrate the generation of a large second-harmonic(SH) vortex beam with quasi-nonlinear spin–orbit interaction(SOI). Highquality SH vortex beams with large topological charges up to 28 are realized experimentally. This indicated that the quasi-angular-momentum of a plasmonic spiral phase plate at the excitation wavelength(topological charge, q) could be imprinted on the harmonic signals from the attached WS2 monolayer. The generated harmonic vortex beam has a topological charge of l_(n)= 2 nq(n is the harmonic order). The results may open new avenues for generating harmonic optical vortices for optical communications and enables novel multi-functional hybrid metasurface devices to manipulate harmonic beams.
