Gender differences of lower urinary tract symptoms in older Chinese Americans

Objective To describe whether or not there are gender differences in lower urinary tract symptoms(LUTS)prevalence and risk factors in community-dwelling older Chinese *** We performed a secondary analysis of a prospective cross-sectional population-based survey of Chinese Americans aged 60 years and older between January 2011 and December 2013 in English,Mandarin,Cantonese,Taishanese,or Teochew.A clinical review of systems was used to assess LUTS,which included urinary frequency,urgency,burning and/or pain,blood in urine,and urinary *** Of the total 3157 people queried,42%were men and 58%were *** men reported LUTS compared to women(32.9%vs.28.6%,p=0.01).In a multivariable analysis,female gender(adjusted odds ratio[aOR]0.60,95%confidence interval[CI]0.49-0.73),being married(aOR 0.79,95%CI 0.65-0.97),and smoking(aOR 0.66,95%CI 0.49-0.88)were found to be protective,while traditional Chinese medicine use(aOR 1.51,95%CI 1.28-1.78),heart disease(aOR 1.54,95%CI 1.24-1.91),and anxiety(aOR 1.69,95%CI 1.25-2.28)were most strongly associated with increased odds of *** examining genders separately,being married was found to be protective only in ***,unique factors found in men were hypertension,heart disease,and practice of Tai *** In this large population-based study,LUTS were more prevalent in older Chinese American men than *** also found gender-specific factors that influenced the odds of reporting LUTS;however,traditional Chinese medicine use was the only factor that was shared by both *** longitudinal investigations are needed to elucidate these underlying mechanisms to provide evidence-based and culture-specific guidelines for this rapidly growing population.

Objective To determine the prevalence of lower urinary tract symptoms(LUTS)and their severity population in *** This cross-sectional survey was conducted using a paper-based survey between August and September in *** study was carried out in the health care centers or hospitals in three different regions of Jordan:North(Irbid and Jarash),Middle(Amman,Madaba,Salt,and Zarqa),and South(Karak and Aqaba).Results To estimate the prevalence of LUTS,two definitions were used,including the first definition(presence of any LUTS regardless of the degree of severity)and the second definition(presence of any LUTS that occurs half the time or more).According to the first definition,1038(89.9%)reported LUTS(male:47.3%,female:52.7%),while 763(66.1%)reported LUTS according to the second definition(male:45.6%,female:54.4%).According to the International Prostate symptom Score characterization,73.9%had nocturia and 62.9%reported daytime increased *** LUTS are highly prevalent among the Jordanian population,and more than half of them have nocturia or daytime increased frequency as most frequently reported symptoms.

Effects of obesity on lower urinary tract symptoms in Korean BPH patients

We analyzed the effects of obesity on lower urinary tract symptoms （LUTSs） in Korean benign prostatic hyperplasia （BPH） patients. This is a multicenter, cross-sectional, prospective study conducted in four centers in Korea. A total of 602 men with LUTSs secondary to BPH were included. BPH/LUTSs cases were men aged ≥ 40 years with intemational prostate symptom scores （IPSS） ≥ 8 points. Height, weight and waist circumference were measured. Among the 602 patients, 156 patients had a waist circumference above 90 cm, representing central obesity, and 215 patients had a body mass index above 25 kg m2. Waist circumference was positively correlated with prostate volume （P = 0.034）. Men with waist circumference 〉 90 cm experienced a 1.36-fold increased risk of severe LUTSs （95% CI 0.82-2.41） compared with men with waist circumference ≤ 90 cm. Prostate volume was positively correlated with urgency and nocturia in men with central obesity. In this population of Korean men diagnosed with BPH, central obesity rather than overall obesity seems to be the more important predictor of LUTSs correlated with BPH.

BackgroundThere is emerging awareness of obese characteristics in males with sexual function,sperm parameters and lower urinary tract symptom(LUTS).lt is well documented that bariatric surgery(BS) has become a valid treatment of morbid obesity to achieve great weight loss *** aim of this study is to investigate the differences of male sexual function,sperm parameters and LUTS before and after ***,the Cochrane Library and PubMed database and references from relevant articles were searched between January 2001 and March 2017.A meta-analysis was conducted to investigate the alteration tendency of male sexual function,sperm parameters and LUTS factors after *** total,21 studies were included,but only ten studies were suitable for the *** International Index of Erectile Function(IIEF) total scores increased significantly after BS(P=0.003).Moreover,the scores in four IIEF domains of erectile function(EF)(Psymptom Score(IPSS)(Plower than that in pre-operative *** represented an effective obesity treatment in not only losing weight but also improving the males’ sexual function,sperm parameters and LUTS.

This study was undertaken to determine the impact on ejaculatory function of tamsulosin （0.2 mg） given once daily （OD） for 12 weeks and to identify risk factors for ejaculatory dysfunction in patients undergoing this treatment. Males with an International Prostatic symptom Score （IPSS） ≥ 8 were enrolled in this study. All participants completed questionnaires, including the IPSS and the Male Sexual Health Questionnaire （MSHQ）, and serum prostate-specific antigen, transrectal ultrasound and uroflowmetry with post-void residual were measured. After initiating 0.2 mg OD tamsulosin, patients were re-evaluated on the fourth and twelfth weeks of medication. The chi-squared test, the independent t-test and one-way ANOVA were used to compare means. Binary logistic regression analysis was used to calculate the odds ratio for all risk factors. A total of 177 men constituted the study cohort. No significant difference was observed between baseline and follow-up for the erectile function, ejaculatory function, satisfaction, sexual activity and desire domains （EFD, EjFD, SDA and ADD） or for erectile or ejaculatory bother mean scores. After 12 weeks, the overall incidence of ejaculatory dysfunction （EjD） was 13.4%. Incidences of the seven different types of EjD （decreased frequency, delay, dryness, decreased strength/force, decreased volume, decreased pleasure and pain at ejaculation） were 2.4%, 3.1%, 3.9%, 3.9%, 6.3%, 7.1% and 3.1%, respectively. Baseline EjFD scores were higher for I PSS responders than for non-responders （26.09 vs. 24.06, P=0.03）. An EjFD score reduction was more frequent in IPSS responders. The incidence of EjD was small, but not negligible and was more frequent in patients with less lower urinary tract symptoms, a smaller prostate, higher baseline MSHQ totals and higher EjFD scores.
