Efficacy and safety of solifenacin plus tamsulosin oral controlled absorption system in men with lower urinary tract symptoms： a meta-analysis

We performed a meta-analysis to compare treatment with a combination of solifenacin plus tamsulosin oral controlled absorption system （TOCAS） with placebo or TOCAS monotherapy. The aim of the meta-analysis was to clarify the efficacy and safety of the combination treatments method for lower urinary tract symptoms （LUTS）. We searched for trials of men with LUTS that were randomized to combination treatment compared with TOCAS monotherapy or placebo. We pooled data from three placebo-controlled trials meeting inclusion criteria. Primary outcomes of interest included changes in International Prostate Symptom Score （IPSS） and urinary frequency. We also assessed postvoid residual, maximum urinary flow rate, incidence of urinary retention （UR）, adverse events. Data were pooled using random or fixed effect models for continuous outcomes and the ManteI-Haenszel method to generate risk ratio. Reductions in IPSS storage subscore and total urgency and frequency score （TUFS） were observed with solifenacin 6 mg plus TOCAS compared with placebo （P 〈 0.0001 and P 〈 0.0001, respectively）. Reductions in IPSS storage subscore and TUFS were observed with solifenacin 9 mg plus TOCAS compared with placebo （P= 0.003 and P = 0.0006, respectively）. Reductions in TUFS was observed with solifenacin 6 mg plus TOCAS compared with TOCAS （P = 0.01）. Both combination treatments were well tolerated, with low incidence of UR. Solifenacin 6 mg plus TOCAS significantly improved total IPSS, storage and voiding symptoms compared with placebo. Solifenacin 6 mg plus TOCAS also improved storage symptoms compared with TOCAS alone. There was no additional benefit of solifenacin 9 mg compared with 6 mg when used in combination with TOCAS.

Periprostatic fat thickness measured on MRI correlates with lower urinary tract symptoms,erectile function,and benign prostatic hyperplasia progression

This study investigated the correlation between periprostatic fat thickness(PPFT)measured on magnetic resonance imaging and lower urinary tract symptoms,erectile function,and benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)progression.A total of 286 treatment-naive men diagnosed with BPH in our department between March 2017 and February 2019 were *** were divided into two groups according to the median value of PPFT:high(PPFT>4.35 mm)PPFT group and low(PPFTlower five-item version of the International Index of Erectile Function(IIEF-5)score(P=0.002)than those with low *** high and low PPFT groups showed significant improvements in PV,maximum flow rate,IPSS,and quality of life score and a decrease of IIEF-5 score after the combination drug *** decrease of IIEF-5 score was more obvious in the high PPFT group than that in the low PPFT *** addition,more patients in the high PPFT group underwent prostate surgery than those in the low PPFT ***,Pearson’s correlation coefficient analysis indicated that PPFT was positively correlated with age,PV,and IPSS and negatively correlated with IIEF-5 score;however,body mass index was only negatively correlated with IIEF-5 score.

The influence of asymptomatic inflammatory prostatitis on the onset and progression of lower urinary tract symptoms in men with histologic benign prostatic hyperplasia

Benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)is a condition that greatly affects the quality of life of middle-aged and elderly ***,hyperplastic changes frequently occur in the prostate tissue of elderly men,the incidence of which has been reported to reach approximately 80% in men in their *** clinical practice,approximately 25% of men with histologic BPH are assumed to experience lower urinary tract symptoms(LUTS)and receive some kind of *** other words,there are some men with histologic BPH who do not exhibit *** that reason,many factors,such as the change in hormonal environment,the immune or autoimmune response,the alteration of gene expression,and so on,are thought to affect the onset and progression of LUTS in men with histologic *** such factor that has long drawn attention is the presence of asymptomatic histological inflammation,which very often accompanies symptomatic *** studies have suggested that asymptomatic histological inflammation causes repeated destruction,healing,and regeneration of the prostate tissue,leading to the enlargement of prostatic nodules,while at the same time causing stromal tissuepredominant remodeling of the prostate tissue,which can increase urination resistance and result in the condition changing from asymptomatic BPH to symptomatic *** future,the biomolecular clarification of the significance of asymptomatic histological inflammation in the prostate tissue could help develop new treatment strategies for BPH accompanied by LUTS.

Acupuncture and moxibustion treating lower urinary tract symptoms due to benign prostatic hyperplasia:a systematic review and network meta-analysis

Objective: lower urinary tract symptoms(LUTS) caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH) affect the quality of life of elderly individuals. Acupuncture and moxibustion are used in the clinic in China for improving LUTS symptoms due to BPH. However,there is no evidence to suggest which is the best option. We compared the efficacy of acupuncture and moxibustion to provide evidence for clinical ***: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wan Fang Data, and VIP databases were searched from inception to July 2020 to identify the randomized controlled trials(RCTs) of acupuncture and moxibustion for LUTS due to BPH. Two researchers filtered studies and extracted the information independently. This study conducted a network meta-analysis using the Bayesian random method. The interventions ranking was evaluated using the surface under the cumulative ranking curve(SUCRA).Results: We finally included 40 studies comprising 10 treating therapies and 3,655 patients with LUTS caused by BPH. In terms of the International Prostate Symptom Score, maximum urinary flow rate, and quality of life, electroacupuncture(EA) [MD =-3.6,95% credible interval(CrI)(-5.5,-1.8), very low certainty of evidence;MD = 2.2, 95% CrI(1.1, 3.3), low certainty of evidence;MD =-1.3, 95% CrI(-2.2,-0.43), very low certainty of the evidence] may be consistently the optimal treatment compared with other interventions, with SUCRA values of 84%, 81%, and 89%, ***: Of all treatments, EA may have the best efficacy with fewer adverse events for LUTS due to BPH. The quality of evidence supporting this result is low to very low certainty of the evidence due to the limitations of primary studies;thus, more highquality RCTs are needed for further evidence.

The spectrum and etiologies of lower urinary tract symptoms in postmenopausal women

Background:Although the prevalence of lower urinary tract symptoms(LUTS)is high in the female population,it is even higher in post-menopausal *** frequency,severity,and etiology of LUTS vary among populations and *** study aimed to define the characteristics of LUTS in postmenopausal women and their underlying *** and methods:Overall,74 postmenopausal patients presenting with LUTS in the urological outpatient department were included in the study.A detailed evaluation of LUTS and their underlying etiologies was *** were divided into 2 groups based on age(65 years),and the variation in different factors was compared across the *** were compared using the t test and 1-way analysis of ***:Nocturia was the most common symptom(89.2%)followed by frequency(83.8%).Among voiding LUTS,the most common was a weak stream(63.5%).Frequency,nocturia,urgency,urge urinary incontinence(UI),stress UI,and nocturnal enuresis were more common in patients older than 65 *** and urge UI were recognized to be the most bothersome symptoms by 37%of the study population followed by straining(32%).The mean storage scores,incontinence scores,and quality of life(QoL)scores for patients younger than 65 years and 65 years or older were 6.9 and 8.5(purinary tract infection(10.8%),cystocele(8.1%),urethral prolapse(4.1%),and urethral caruncle(4.1%).Conclusions:Storage LUTS were the most common and increased in both frequency and severity with *** QoL was also more severely affected in older postmenopausal *** outlet obstruction due to meatal with or without distal urethral stenosis was the most common underlying cause of LUTS followed by an overactive *** bladder had the most severe impact on pat

Objective:To compare the degree of agreement and consistency of urodynamic studies(UDS)with low urinary tract symptoms(LUTS)questionnaires for evaluating LUTS in cervical cancer patients following radical hysterectomy(RH)and pelvic ***:From January 2012 to March 2015,204 cervical cancer patients who underwent RH in 13 hospitals were evaluated using the Incontinence Questionnaire-Female lower urinary tract symptoms(ICIQ-FLUTS)and the Overactive Bladder Symptom Score(OABSS).Urodynamic tests were also performed on these patients during the same ***:Study participants’age ranged from 23 to 75 years,with a mean(standard deviation)of 48.0±9.3 *** questionnaires,the prevalence of patients with LUTS symptoms,including storage symptoms,voiding symptoms,stress urinary incontinence(SUI)and overactive bladder(OAB)was 86.3%,77.0%,62.7%,52.9%and 14.7%,*** UDS,the corresponding prevalence was 89.7%,70.1%,66.7%,46.6%and 13.2%,*** diagnostic concordance of questionnaires and UDS for storage symptoms,voiding symptoms,SUI and OAB was 79.9%,66.7%,66.7%,57.4%and 79.9%,*** voiding symptoms,the correlation coefficient was 0.272,which was higher than that of storage symptoms,SUI and OAB.
