Objective:To evaluate the anti-hyperlipidemic activity of lemongrass oil against in dexamethasone induced hyperlipidemia in ***:Administration of dexamethasone was given at 10 mg/kg,*** the adult rats for 8 d induces hyperlipidemia characterized by marked increase in serum cholesterol and triglyceride levels along with increase in atherogenic ***:lemongrass oil(100 and 200 mg/kg,po.) treatment has showed significant inhibition against dexamethasone hyperlipidemia by maintaining the serum levels of cholesterol, triglycerides and atherogenic index near to the normal levels and the antihyperlipidemic effect of the lemongross oil was comparable with atorvastatin 10 mg/kg,*** possible mechanism may be associated with decrease in lecithin cholesterol acetyl transferase(LCAT) ***:These results suggested that Lemon gross oil possess significant antihyperlipidemic activity.

Synergistic Effect of the Methanolic Extract of lemongrass and Some Antibiotics to Treat Urinary Tract Bacteria

Some medicinal plants are used traditionally in Saudi Arabia to treat many bacterial infections. Three plants, lemongrass (Oymbopogon citrates), lantana (Lantana cama-ra), and wild olive leaves (Olea europaea) were collected, identified, extracted with either hot water or organic solvents (methanol, diethyl ether, ethyl acetate and n-butanol) to investigate their antibacterial activities against E. coli. The methanol ex-tracts of lemongrass, lantana and olive showed the highest activities against Esherichia coil while aqueous extract exhibited the lowest activities. Thus, the antibacterial activities of the methanolic extract of the three tested plants were determined using agar well diffusion method against some bacterial pathogens, isolated from urine samples. The highest antibacterial activity was recorded for themethanolic extract of lemongrass against all tested bacteria, E. coli, K. pneumoniae, P. aeuroginosa, P. mirabilis, E. faecalis and S. aureus. The tested bacteria differed with regard to their susceptibility to plant extracts. lemongrass was the most active extract followed by lantana and wild olive extracts. Minimal inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of the methanolic extract of lemongrass and some used antibiotics, Erythromycin, Tetracycline, Amoxicillin, Ciprofloxacin and Chloramphenicol were determined usingfluorescein diacetate method. Synergistic effect of the methanolic extract of lemongrass with the previous antibiotics against the tested clinical bacterial isolates was determined and the Fractional inhibitory concentrations (FIC) of different combination of the extract and the antibiotics were determined. FIC index (FICI) was calculated and it was ranged from 0.08 - 0.98. The interaction between the tested plant extract and the tested antibiotics was either synergistic or additive effects and no antagonistic effect was recorded. lemongrass oleoresin was successfully extracted from lemongrass（Cymbopogon citratus）using Pressurised Liquid *** biological active constituent in lemongrass oleoresin is citral or its isomers;geranial and neral is more than 75%by weight of essential *** was used as marker compound for this *** solubility of geranial increased with the addition β-cyclodextrin until it reached the solubility limit at 7 mM β-cyclodextrin,with no further improvement after *** phase solubility diagram obtained was characterised as *** complex of geranial was prepared by using co-precipitation（CP）and kneading method （KM）.Based on phase solubility study,the stability constant, K1:1,it indicated that molar ratio obtained was 1:1β- cyclodextrin（β-CD）:geranial for *** complexes formed were characterised by using Fourier transform infrared spectrometry（FTIR）and differential scanning calorimeter（DSC）.The shift of C-H stretching to higher wavenumber and the reduction of intensity of band C=O and C-H band indicated the formation of new solid phase;β-CD- lemongrass *** DSC thermogram showed the new solid phase formed using co-precipitation and kneading *** peak intensity of co-precipitation shows the highest compared to *** results obtained from FTIR analysis showed that co-precipitation and kneading methods were able to produce inclusion ***, DSC indicates that co-precipitation method able to produce inclusion ***,co-precipitation was the chosen method for the formation of inclusion complex between lemongrass oleoresin and β-cyclodextrin.

Objective:To examine the acaricidal effects of the essential oil of Cymbopogon citratits leaf extract(lemongrass)and ethanolic Azadirachta indica leaf extract(neem)against house dust mites Dermatophagoides farinae(***)and Dermalophagoides pteronyssinus(***).Methods:Twenty-five adults mites were placed onto treated filter paper that is soaked with plant extract and been tested at different concentrations(50.00%,25.00%,12.50%,6.25%and 3.13%)and exposure times(24hrs,48hrs,72hrs and 96 hrs).All treatments were replicated 7 times,and the experiment repeated *** topical and contact activities of the two herbs were ***:Mortalities from lemongrass extract were higher than neem for both topical and contact *** 50%concentration,both 24 hrs topical and contact exposures to lemongrass resulted in more than 91%mortalities for both species of *** the same concentration and exposure time,neem resulted in topical mortalities of 40.3%and 15.7%against *** and *** respectively;contact mortalities were 8.0%and 8.9%against the 2 mites,*** was no difference in topical mortalities of *** from exposure to concentrations oflemongrass and neem up to 12.50%;lemongrass was more effective than neem at the higher ***:Generally,topical mortalities of *** due to lemongrass are higher than that due to *** mortalities of lemongrass are always higher that neem against both species of mites.
