A facile preparation of a novel nonleaching antimicrobial waterborne polyurethane leather coating functionalized by quaternary phosphonium salt

The aim of this research is to develop a novel non-leaching antimicrobial waterborne polyurethane(WPU)leather coating material with covalently attached quaternary phosphonium salt(QPS).The structure of the QPS-bearing WPU has been identified,and their thermal stability,mechanical property,and antimicrobial performance have been *** results reveal that the incorporation of QPS slightly reduces the thermal stability of WPU material but would not affects its usability as leather *** the presence of hydrophobic benzene in QPS structure,the strong hydration of its cationic groups leads to the increased surface contact angle(SCA)and water absorption rate(WAR)of the films,suggesting that the water resistance of the films needs to be improved for the purpose of leather *** tests demonstrate that when the QPS content is 20 wt%,QPS-bearing WPU shows effective antimicrobial activity against *** WPU containing QPS prepared in this study is a non-leaching antimicrobial material and has great potential application as leather coating.

Genuine leather is often coated before making daily necessities such as shoes,clothing,bags,sofas,car seats,etc.,so as to impart leather products various colours,higher wear resistance and water resistance and so ***,the coating of these products is often damaged in daily use which will decrease its aesthetic effect and ***,how to improve the scratch resistance of leather coatings has been puzzling people all the *** is a common knowledge that animals and plants can repair the injured biological tissues by *** to this principle,here,we prepared a type of self-healing water-borne polyurethane with disulfide bond in the main chain by using HEDS as chain extender,and the self-healing system was triggered by the disulfide bonds with the help of shape memory function of waterborne Polyurethane,self-healing experiments how that the damaged of leather coating can be repaired fully at 60℃ for 12 h.

Bio-Based Waterborne Poly(Vanillin-Butyl Acrylate)/MXene coatings for leather with Desired Warmth Retention and Antibacterial Properties

This study presents a solvent-free,facile synthesis of a bio-based green antibacterial agent and aromatic monomer methacrylated vanillin(MV)using *** resulting MV not only imparted antibacterial properties to coatings layered on leather,but could also be employed as a green alternative to petroleum-based carcinogen styrene(St).Herein,MV was copolymerized with butyl acrylate(BA)to obtain waterborne bio-based P(MV-BA)miniemulsion via miniemulsion ***,MXene nanosheets with excellent photothermal conversion performance and antibacterial properties,were introduced into the P(MV-BA)miniemulsion by ultrasonic *** the gradual solidification of P(MV-BA)/MXene nanocomposite miniemulsion on the leather surface,MXene gradually migrated to the surface of leather coatings due to the cavitation effect of ultrasonication and amphiphilicity of MXene,which prompted its full exposure to light and bacteria,exerting the maximum photothermal conversion efficiency and significant antibacterial *** particular,when the dosage of MXene nanosheets was 1.4 wt%,the surface temperature of P(MV-BA)/MXene nanocomposite miniemulsioncoated leather(PML)increased by about 15℃ in an outdoor environment during winter,and the antibacterial rate against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus was nearly 100%under the simulated sunlight treatment for 30 ***,the introduction of MXene nanosheets increased the air permeability,water vapor permeability,and thermal stability of these *** study provides a new insight into the preparation of novel,green,and waterborne bio-based nanocomposite coatings for leather,with desired warmth retention and antibacterial *** can not only realize zerocarbon heating based on sunlight in winter,reducing the use of fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions,but also improve ability to fight off invasion by harmful bacteria,viruses,and other microorganisms.
