Single-lobed Near Diffraction-limited Beam from 1W laser diode array with an External Cavity

An external cavity for the laser diode array with a conventional mirror in what we call two-time self-injection operation is presented. The external cavity consists of two lenses, a flat external mirror(EM) in the image plane of the array and a prism that is used as an output coupler. The single-lobed near diffraction-limited far field beam of a 1 W 10-stripe gain-guided LD array lies at 6.4°～9° with the external cavity operation in two-time self-injection mode, whereas at 2.5°～3.0° for its normal feedback operation. The width of the far field beam (FWHM) is 0.43° and 0.63° at driving current of 2 and 3.2 ×I thr , respectively, much narrower than that in normal feedback operation, but at the expense of lower output power. The output of the system is very stable and insensitive to the tilt and position of the EM.

Thermal analysis of GaN-based laser diode mini-array

Thermal characteristics of multiple laser stripes integrated into one chip is investigated theoretically in this paper. The temperature pattern of the laser diode mini-array packaged in a TO-can is analyzed and optimized to achieve a uniform temperature distribution among the laser stripes and along the cavity direction. The temperature among the laser stripes varies by more than 5 K if the stripes are equally arranged, and can be reduced to less than 0.4 K if proper arrangement is designed. For conventional submount structure, the temperature variation along the cavity direction is as high as 7 K, while for an optimized trapezoid submount structure, the temperature varies only within 0.5 K.

Study on the Beam Quality of Uncoupled laser diode arrays

The beam quality of uncoupled laser diode array is studied theoretically and experimentally. By calculating the second order moments of the beam emitted from the laser diode array, the dependence of the M 2 factor of the laser diode array on the M 2 factor of the single emitter, the ratio of the emitting region to the non emitting space, and the number of emitters, has been deduced. From the measurement of the beam propagation the M 2 factor of a laser diode bar is experimentally determined. The measured M 2 factor of the laser diode bar agrees with the theoretical prediction.

Spherical distribution structure of the semiconductor laser diode stack for pumping

A semiconductor laser diode stack is used for pumping and 8 semiconductor laser diode arrays of the stack are put on a sphere,and the output of every bar is specially off-axis compressed to realize high coupling *** output beam of this semiconductor laser diode stack is shaped by a hollow duct to the laser active *** efficiency of the hollow light pipe,which is used for semiconductor laser diode stack coupling,is analyzed by geometric optics and ray *** optics analysis diagnoses the reasons for coupling loss and guides the design of the *** tracing analyzes the relation between the structural parameters and the output characteristics of this pumping system,and guides parameter *** and analysis results show that putting the semiconductor laser diode arrays on a spherical surface can increase coupling efficiency, reduce the optimum duct length and improve the output energy field distribution.
