A model for the transportation and distribution of jellyfish Rhopilema esculentum for stock enhancement in the liaodong Bay, China

A numerical model for jellyfish Rhopilema esculentum stock enhancement is developed for the first time. The model is based on an operational ocean circulation-surface wave coupled forecasting system for the seas off China and adjacent areas and uses a Lagrangian particle-tracking scheme to track the trajectories of released jellyfish. The Jellyfish are modeled as particles with diel vertical migration and are passively drifted by the current and dispersion due to the sub-grid processes. A comparison between the simulation and survey results demonstrate that the model can capture the primary distribution patterns of the released jellyfish. The model results show that the ocean current and indirect wind impact are the main drivers controlling the jellyfish transport. A connectivity matrix between the release sites and fishing grounds indicates the top of the bay is better than the eastern and western coasts for jellyfish fishing. The matrix also shows that only 45% and 27% of the jellyfish released from Wafangdian(WFD) can enter the fishing ground in 2008 and 2010; thus, the site near WFD is not an advisable location for jellyfish release. A Lagrangian probability density function based on a nine-year tracing experiment validates the results and further provides a "climatology" distribution of the released *** experiments are conducted to examine the sensitivity of the model to random walk schemes and to release conditions. The model requires a random walk but is insensitive to the random walk scheme. The experiments with different habitat depths show that if the jellyfish are fixed on the bottom of the water, most of them will be transported to the center, or even out of the bay, by the bottom circulation.

Pb isotope geochemistry of lead, zinc, gold and silver deposit clustered region, liaodong rift zone,northeastern China

Pb isotopic analyses were reported for sulfide and hydrothermal carbonate minerals and marble of the Xiquegou lead-zinc, the Zhenzigou zinc-lead and the Gaojiapuzi silver deposits from the Qingchengzi ore field and the Beiwagou zinc-lead deposit in the west, Proterozoic liaodong rift zone. Pb isotopic ratios of the marble from the Qingchengzi ore field range from 18.24 to 30.63 for 206 Pb/204Pb, 15.59 to 17.05 for207Pb/204Pb and 37.43 to 38.63 for 208Pb/204Pb. The marble gives a Pb-Pb isochron age of 1822±92 Ma, which is interpreted as the age of the metamorphism of the marble. Ore Pb, including Pb of sulfide and hydrothermal car- bonate minerals, from the Qingchengzi ore field shows limited variation with 206 Pb/204Pb=17.66- 17.96, 207 Pb/204Pb=15.60-15.74 and 208Pb/204Pb=37.94-38.60. In contrast, ore Pb from the Beiwagou deposit gives different Pb isotopic ratios with 206Pb/204Pb=15.68-15.81, 207 Pb/204Pb= 15.34-15.45 and 208Pb/204Pb=35.30-35.68. Pb of all deposits from the liaodong rift zone is derived from the upper crust. Ore Pb of the Qingchengzi deposits is derived from a young upper crust. The model Th/U ratios of 4.40 to 4.74 for ore Pb are significantly different from that of 1.7 to 4.4 given by the marble of the Qingchengzi ore field, suggesting that marble is not the source of the ore Pb. Ore Pb of the Beiwagou deposit is extracted from its source and the deposit is formed at the Paleoproterozoic era. Different Pb isotopic ratios of the Qingchengzi ore field and the Beiwagou deposit are due to different ages of the deposits and suggest that the two types of deposits are derived from different sources and are possibly formed by different ore-forming processes.

liaodong Bay is one of the largest semi-enclosed bays located in Bohai Sea,in northeast *** is an important feeding and spawning place,even wintering and breeding migration base for many marine *** size structure of phytoplankton communities is a key feature of marine ecosystems and can be used as an indicator for algae disaster,but the methods to evalute is still ***,we compared the size-fractionated chlorophyll-a method with a high-throughout sequencing method in an evaluation of the size structure of phytoplankton assemblages in liaodong Bay,China,in *** proportion of picophytoplankton was estimated at just 19%according to the results based on size-fractionated chlorophyll-a,which likely represents a severe *** sequencing method confirmed that many kinds of phytoplankton species appeared in more than one size-fractionated filter membrane,with some even dominating where the filter membrane pore size was greater than the individual phytoplankton *** to the sequencing method,the phytoplankton assemblages in liaodong Bay were dominated by picophytoplankton(average proportion=44%),followed by the nanophytoplankton(average 32%),a composition that is more consistent with other *** sequencing method provides a more robust way to assess the size structure and taxonomic diversity of marine phytoplankton communities.

Sequence stratigraphic framework and distribution of depositional systems for the Paleogene in liaodong Bay area

With a comprehensive geological and geophysical data base,the Paleogene in the liaodong Bay area,which consists of the Kongdian,Shahejie and Donghying Formations from the base to top,was divided into 4 second-order sequences and 8 third-order sequences based on the characteristics of the se-quence boundaries. Each third-order sequence is subdivided into the lowstand,lake transgressive and highstand systems tracts. The Lowstand systems tract (LST) is mainly composed of progradational parasequence sets,while the lake transgressive systems tract (TST) largely consists of the retrograda-tional parasequence sets and the highstand systems tract (HST) is dominated by the progradational parasequence sets. The main types of depositional systems include the shallow lake,semi-deep lake,deep lake,delta,fan delta,braided fluvial delta and nearshore subaqueous fan. The braided fluvial delta and fan delta depositional systems are mainly confined to the sequences of the lower SEs4-Ek,SEs3 and SEs1+2,while the sequences of SEd3,SEd2 and SEd1 are dominated by the delta and nearshore subaqueous fan depositional systems with the latter being developed at the downthrown side of the basin-bounding fault in each sequence. The evolution of the depositional systems is always con-trolled by the paleo-tectonic setting and the ancient landform in the space and geological time. It is concluded that the most favorable reservoirs are distributed in the Liaoxi low uplift and the central Liaozhong sag.

Lithotectonic elements of Archean basement on the liaodong Peninsula and its vicinity,North China Craton, China

The liaodong Peninsula,in the northeastern part of the Eastern Block in the North China Craton,China, consists of lithologic units from Archean to Cenozoic in *** basement rocks consist of widespread amphibolite-to granulite-facies Archean supracrustal assemblages and granitoid gneisses,as well as Paleoproterozoic volcano-sedimentary successions that were intruded by granitic-marie complexes,and then metamorphosed under greenschist-to amphibolite-facies *** basement rocks are overlainby thick Mesoproterozoic- Cenozoic sedimentary sequences.A synthesis of the available petrological and geochronological data allowed us to establish a geological framework for the Precambrian basement on the liaodong Peninsula and its *** basement can be subdivided into three tectonic units:the Neoarchean Liaonan Block,the Eo-Neoarchean Longgang Block,and the intervening Paleoproterozoic Jiao-Liao-Ji *** this paper we delineate the characteristics of an Archean tectonothermal event,and in a companion paper we examine the Paleoproterozoic lithotectonic *** samples of the Hadean eon are rare worldwide,but Hadean zircons have been identified in rocks of the liaodong Peninsula,and they provide one of the oldest known mineralogical records on *** Archean gneisses in the Liaonan Block are dominated by quartz dioritic-granodioritic gneisses that were emplaced between 2.55 and 2.44 Ga,and these rocks later underwent a lower-amphibolite-facies *** the other hand,the Archean basement in the Longgang Block is dominated by TTG (tonalitic-trondhjemitic-granodioritic) and granitic gneisses,chamocldtes,and small amounts of supracrustal sequences with much older protolith ages of up to 3.85 Ga,and these rocks have undergone amphibolite-to granulite-facies *** magrnatism (ca.2.5 Ga)marked the end of the Archean tectonothermal event in the Eastern Block of the North China Craton.

Seasonal Variation of Environmental Variables and Phytoplankton Community Structure and Their Relationship in liaodong Bay of Bohai Sea,China

In this paper, systematic studies on the changes in concentrations of the environmental factors and the net-phytoplankton community, and the relationship between them in the liaodong Bay, Bohai Sea during 2013 are presented. The PCA results showed that higher levels of nutrients and dissolved heavy metals in the river-estuary-bay system were closely related to the river runoff. Since the influences of industrial and anthropogenic activities, the liaodong Bay coastal areas are facing a huge environmental challenge of nutrients and heavy metal pollution. Net-phytoplankton community structure showed obvious seasonal succession, among which the dominant and(or) key species were the main factors affecting community structure change and stability. Under certain environmental conditions, the dominant species and(or) key species dominated the phytoplankton community structure succession. The Bio-ENV results suggested that the seawater temperature, nutrient, Cu, Pb, Zn, and Cd in liaodong Bay are important environmental variables that affect the phytoplankton community structure. Anthropogenic activities have significantly contributed to the changes in concentrations of environmental factors and the net-phytoplankton community structure and stability, and the relationship between them.

Spatio-temporal Change and Carrying Capacity Evaluation of Human Coastal Utilization in liaodong Bay,China from 1993 to 2015

In China, promoting the development of coastal areas has been included in a series of national strategic development *** the same time, many marine environmental problems have been associated with the rapid development of coastal sea use. In order to quantify the impact of human activities on the coast, the characteristics of coastlines and near-shore sea use of liaodong Bay, Northeast China, were first classified using multi-source, remotely sensed imagery using automatic or semi-automatic extraction methods for five periods between 1993 and 2015. Sea use dynamics and coastline dynamics resulting from human activates were analyzed. Results showed a significant trend of continuous growth in sea use and a progressive increase in the total length of artificial coastline, but a noticeable loss of natural coastline during the five periods. Reclaimed land and enclosed areas were the main types of sea use. Most coastal human activities were distributed in the northern part of the bay. In recent years, rapid industrialization and urbanization in China's coastal areas have promoted large-scale land reclamation. Accordingly, the observed coastline changes during each period had a close relationship with coastal development and sea area utilization. Based on marine functional zoning(MFZ), the sea use carrying capacity was evaluated by means of indexes to describe human exploitation of the marine and coastal environments in the bay. This showed that the intensity of coastal utilization in liaodong Bay has increased year-on-year. Sea use carrying capacity reached a ‘critically loaded'state by 2008 and was ‘overloaded' by 2015.

Characteristics and Genesis of Fine-Clastic Rock-Type Au Deposits in the liaodong Rift

Gold deposits occurring in the liaodong rift are located in interlayered carbonate rocks and fine-clastic rocks, belonging to the middle and upper parts of the lower Proterozoic. Compared with the Carlin-type Au deposits abroad and gold deposits in Yunnan-Guizhou-Guangxi, Qinling and western Sichuan Province, they are similar in many respects. This paper discusses the geological features of ore-bearing formations and ore-filling structures and metallogenetic characteristics. Through the discussion on the sources of ores, heat and water, it points out that the Au deposits belong to vadose reworked hydrothermal deposits. This conforms to the principle of “mineralization in the neighbouring areas”, i.e., the deposits are formed in nearby ore-bearing layers, and the latest hydrothermal event was the main factor in forming the Au deposits.

Leakage of mantle helium from the liaodong Peninsula, China

The isotopic compositions of helium have been investigated in hot spring gases sampled from the liaodong Peninsula, China. The 3He/ 4He ratios range from 0.14 Ra (0.14 times the atmospheric 3He/ 4He ratio of 1.40×10 -6) to 0.72 Ra. 3He/ 4He versus 4He/ 20Ne ratios and He contents suggest that a small amount of mantle-derived helium reaches the earth’s surface. Helium isotope ratios of the hot spring gases show a distribution pattern similar to the regional heat flow values, indicating that the positive thermal anomaly occurring in the area is closely associated with the presence of mantle-derived helium. The observations described above provide some significant evidence that the molten magma originating from partial melting of the upper mantle may have intruded into the continental crust along the activity fault. The coupling of the presence of mantle He and heat flow anomalies to seismic activity in studied region seem to imply that there is an internal relationship between mantle degassing and seismic

Based on various patterns of groundwater and their abundance characters in south liaodong Peninsula, the distribution, stage, pattern and characters of sea water intrusion in the serious sea water intrusion areas are analysed. The reasons to cause sea water intrusion are uneven precipitation, limited recharge of surface water, artificial overpumping, lithology and geological structure. It can provide scientific basis for reasonable utilization of limited water resource in line with the local conditions.
