The Dof transcription factor COG1 acts as a key regulator of plant biomass by promoting photosynthesis and starch accumulation

Photosynthetic efficiency is the primary determinant of crop yield,including vegetative biomass and grain yield.Manipulation of key transcription factors known to directly control photosynthetic machinery can be an effective strategy to improve photosynthetic traits.In this study,we identified an Arabidopsis gain-of-function mutant,cogwheel1-3D,that shows a significantly enlarged rosette and increased biomass compared with wild-type plants.Overexpression of COG1,a Dof transcription factor,recapitulated the phenotype of cogwheel1-3D,whereas knocking out COG1 and its six paralogs resulted in a reduced rosette size and decreased biomass.Transcriptomic and quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction analyses demonstrated that COG1 and its paralogs were required for light-induced expression of genes involved in photosynthesis.Further chromatin immunoprecipitation and electrophoretic mobility shift assays indicated that COG1 can directly bind to the promoter regions of multiple genes encoding light-harvesting antenna proteins.Physiological,biochemical,and microscopy analyses revealed that COG1 enhances photosynthetic capacity and starch accumulation in Arabidopsis rosette leaves.Furthermore,combined results of bioinformatic,genetic,and molecular experiments suggested that the functions of COG1 in increasing biomass are conserved in different plant species.These results collectively demonstrated that COG1 acts as a key regulator of plant biomass by promoting photosynthesis and starch accumulation.Manipulating COG1 to optimize photosynthetic capacity would create new strategies for future crop yield improvement.

Heavy flavour physics provides excellent opportunities to indirectly search for new physics at very high energy scales and to study hadron properties for deep understanding of the strong interaction.The lhcb experiment has been playing a leading role in the study of heavy flavour physics since the start of the LHC operations about ten years ago,and made a range of high-precision measurements and unexpected discoveries,which may have far-reaching implications on the field of particle physics.This review highlights a selection of the most influential physics results on CP violation,rare decays,and heavy flavour production and spectroscopy obtained by lhcb using the data collected during the first two operation periods of the LHC.The upgrade plan of lhcb and the physics prospects are also briefly discussed.

In 1964, Murray Gell-Mann [1], the Nobel Prize winner in Physics, and George Zweig [2] separately proposed the quark model.The model revealed for the first time that a class of particles, baryons including protons and neutrons, were not elementary, instead were formed by three quarks (qqq), and another class, mesons,were made of quark-antiquark pairs (qqà). The quark model can successfully describe all the baryons and mesons (collectively referred to as hadrons) observed in the last century, thereby helps to explain how the strong force binds the quarks to form a particle.

Impact of lhcb 13 TeV W and Z pseudo-data on the parton distribution functions

We study the potential of the lhcb 13 TeV single W±and Z boson pseudo-data for constraining the parton distribution functions(PDFs)of the proton.As an example,we demonstrate the sensitivity of the lhcb 13 TeV data,collected with integrated luminosities of 5fb^(-1) and 300 fb^(-1) ,to reducing the PDF uncertainty bands of the CT14HERA2 PDFs,using the error PDF updating package EPUMP.The sensitivities of various experimental observables are compared.Generally,sizable reductions in PDF uncertainties can be observed in the 300fb^(-1) data sample,particularly in the small-x region.The double-differential cross section measurement of Z boson pT and rapidity can greatly reduce the uncertainty bands of u and d quarks in almost the whole x range,as compared to various single observable measurements.

lhcb gets closer to discovering the second doubly charmed baryon

Recently the lhcb Collaboration [1] published the results of a search for the doubly charmed baryon ■. No significant signal is seen in the mass range from 3.4 to3.8 Ge V. To put this result in context, the ■baryon was seen by lhcb in decay modes ΛcK-π^+π^+[2](2017) and ■^+cπ^+[3](2018). The weighted average of the ■^++cc mass is 3621.24±0.65 (stat.)±0.31 (syst.) MeV [3].

Discovery potentials of double-charm tetraquarks

In this study,we investigate the discovery potential of double-charm tetraquarks■.We find that their production cross sections at the lhcb with■TeV reach O(10^(4))pb,which indicates that the lhcb has collected O(10^(8))such particles.Through the decay channels of■or■or■(if unstable),it is highly expected that they get discovered at the lhcb in the near future.We also discuss the productions and decays of the double-charm tetraquarks at future Tera-Z factories.

大型强子对撞机(LHC)于2022-2025年进行运行取数,全环运行的对撞数据读出速率达到40MHz,大型强子对撞机底夸克实验(lhcb)为满足LHC运行的要求和实现粒子径迹更高精度的探测,将对其中一个子探测器-上游径迹探测器(UT)进行全面换代升级。升级后的UT探测器主要组成部分是硅微条探测器,它的硅微条数量更多,间距更小,传感器分布也更为密集;与此同时,为了获得更为丰富的粒子径迹,其在空间上被放置于更靠近束流中心的位置,这也要求了其需具有更加稳定的抗辐照能力。基于以上背景,本文主要研究工作的重心将放在组成硅微条探测器中最小读数单元数据读出系统的设计上,最小读数单元由传感器、ASIC芯片和外围电路组成,通过对其数据读出系统进行研究和测试,可测试出完全组装后的UT探测器在辐射环境中的运行性能,从而为下一步的大规模生产和安装提供保障。本文主要内容包括:(1)明确UT探测器在lhcb实验中的定位,制定探测器升级性能指标。(2)利用硅微条探测器在高能物理实验中的基本原理,进行UT探测器主体设计优化工作。(3)通过对组成硅微条探测器最小读数单元的数据读出系统进行分析,将传感器、专用集成电路芯片SALT和外围电子电路从整体系统中剥离出来,单独对其数据传输系统进行研究,通过搭建模拟取数实验平台,测试最小数据读出系统功能正确性。(4)对数据读出系统进行束流测试,监测其在辐射环境下的系统运行状态,通过分析其读出数据来为整体系统的稳定性和耐辐照性能提供参考依据。通过实验分析,探测器数据读出系统初步符合设计目标,其在数据读出速率、跨时钟整合以及抗辐射性能方面具有良好表现。通过分析在实验过程中遇到的问题,我们设计了几种辅助PCB板来使其更加完善,经过实验分析,系统整体在信噪比和有效粒子撞击收集效率等参数方面均有不错表现,可为下一轮UT探测器升级提供实验参数支撑。

Study of Monte Carlo event generators for proton-proton collisions at LHC energies in the forward region

In this paper we present a comparative study between PYTHIA, EPOS, QGSJET, and SIBYLL generators. The global event observables considered are the charged energy flow, charged particle distributions, charged hadron production ratios and V^0 ratios. The study is performed in the lhcb and TOTEM fiducial phase spaces on minimum bias simulated data samples for pp collisions at = 7 TeV , using the reference measurements from these experiments. In the majority of cases, the measurements are within a band defined by the most extreme predictions. The observed differences between the predictions and the measurements seem to be, in most part, caused by extrapolation from the central pseudorapidity region (|η| 2.5), in which the generators were mainly tuned.
