The present work evaluated the use of photo-Fenton process for the treatment of kraft pulp mill effluent. The photo-Fenton best operating conditions, such as pH, concentration, and H2O2: Fe2+ ratio were evaluated. The efficiency of the treatment was measured by COD (chemical oxygen demand) removal. The results showed that the optimum pH for the photo-Fenton process was equal to 3. The increase in H2O2 application resulted in an efficiency increase of the photo-Fenton process, although this was not a directly proportional relation. For most cases, the H2O2: Fe2+ proportion of 100:1 yielded the best results for COD removal. Solar radiation was more efficient than artificial UV to the COD removal. During the treatment the organic matter of the effluent was more oxidized than mineralized, showing a higher removal of COD than BOD (biochemical oxygen demand) and TOC (total organic carbon), respectively. So, photo-Fenton process increased the BOD/ COD ration but decreased the BOD/TOC ratio.

Hardwoods are important raw material for making pulp and paper products. Eucalyptus camaldulensis is a fast-growing hardwood species with a wide distribution in Iran and can be introduced as appropriatematerial to compensate the wood shortages of the natural forest. kraft pulping was performed under different cooking conditions and, based on the relations of pulp yield and kappa number, bleachable kraft pulp at screened yield of 43.3% and kappa number of 31.3 was selected for DED （Chlorine Dioxide-Alkaline Extraction-Chlorine Dioxide） bleaching and its bleachability was studied at different kappa factor in D~ stage. The results indicated that the bleachable kraft pulp from this species has high kappa number at acceptable screened yield and to complete the delignification in the bleaching process, higher kappa factor may be needed in DED bleaching sequence. The main reduction in final kappa number and yield loss were observed at kappa factor level of 0.2 but by further increase in kappa factor up to 0.4, more development were observed in optical properties but at lower opacity.

Production and Characterization of Spherical Porous Lignin Pellets

With industrial kraft lignin as precursors, the transformer oil as dispersive phase, addin sodium dodecyl sulfate as dispersant and epichlorohydrin as crosslinking agent, the spheric porous lignin pellets were produced by two-phase solvent system. The suitable process conditions of producing the lignin pellets were determined by signal-factor and orthogonal experiments. The lignin pellets were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermogravimetry and X-ray diffraction analysis. The results show that the ideal spherical lignin pellets with 87.75% of the yield could be obtained under the such conditions as 5 g lignin dissolved in 50 ml water by adjusting the solution pH value to 13, 0.6 g sodium dodecyl sulfate, 3 g epichlorohydrin and 150 ml transformer oil. Morphology studies show that lignin pellets have the full spheric shape and inner porous microstructure. Evidence for the reaction between lignin and epichlorohydrin has been observed using FT-IR and thermogravimetric analysis. The results of X-ray diffraction analysis demonstrate that crosslinked lignin pellets mainly are an amorphous polymer.

Bamboo was used as raw material for unbleached pulp *** acetic acid prehydrolysis process was employed before the pulping *** effect of acetic acid prehydrolysis on pulp properties was *** results showed that some components,such as hemicellulose and extractives,were degraded or dissolved in the prehydrolysis process prior to kraft *** images of the substrate after treatment indicated that the parenchyma cell wall was thinner,and the size of pores between fiber bundle cell walls was *** pulping results showed that acetic acid prehydrolysis could improve the pulp quality and make the pulp easier to *** brightness of the pulp reached 59.6%ISO with a single oxygen delignification *** acetic acid prehydrolysis decreased pulp viscosity and fiber length,but not *** amount of parenchyma cells in the pulp was reduced,which was beneficial for papermaking and improving mechanical strength of *** procedure has good potential for unbleached pulp production.

＜正＞Cigarette paper manufacture is a highly specialized field because this speciality paper must be designed to meet several specific requirements. Structure of a cigarette and cigarette paper arc shown and requirements for cigarette paper arc described in this paper. Although cigarette paper can be made of chemical wood pulp, nonwood pulps arc used in the manufacture of cigarette paper. Several chemical wood and nonwood pulps have been examined for the use in the cigarette paper furnish. A useful way how to choose pulps for cigarette paper furnish is described in this paper. There arc "strong" pulps to build a reinforcement network for cigarette paper and "filler" pulps to increase porosity, opacity and formation together with the filler, precipitated calcium carbonate.
