Design of Fading Channel Simulator Based on IIR Filter Using Genetic Algorithm

This article designs a Rayleigh fading channel simulator using IIR filter (called Doppler filter), which is used to approximate the jakes Doppler spectrum. We mainly focus on the design of Doppler filter and model it as an optimization problem. Non-convexity of the problem is proved in this paper and genetic algorithm (GA) is used to optimize it, which has never been used before in this area. Simulation result shows that GA converges at the solution corresponding to very accurate approximation of jakes PSD. Finally, several statistical characteristics of the simulator are verified, including correlation functions and level-crossing rate (LCR), all of which match the theoretical predictions pretty well.

Low Complexity Dynamic Channel Equalization in OFDM with High Frequency Mobile Network Technologies

We present in this paper a method for enhancing equalization of a dynamic channel. A dynamic channel is characterized and modeled by a high relative velocity between transmitter and receiver and fast changes of environment conditions for wave propagation. Based on jakes model, an auto-regressive model (AR) [1] for such a dynamic system, i.e., a time variant channel is developed. More specifically, the enhanced equalization method we are proposing is a combination of a multi-stage time and frequency domain equalizer with a feed-forward loop. The underlined wok presents a unified approach to the equalization method that employs both time and frequency domains data to enhance the equalization scheme. In an OFDM system, the channel coefficients for each tap, in time domain for consecutive blocks, are partially independent thus correlated. Such correlation can improve the channel estimation if it is taken into account. The method in this paper enhances the performance of equalization by dynamically selecting the number of previous OFDM symbols based on the Doppler frequency. In order to decrease the complexity of the system model, we utilize the autocorrelation and Doppler frequency to dynamically select the previous OFDM symbols that will be stored in the memory. In addition to deriving earlier results in a unified manner, the approach presented also leads to enhanced performance results without imposing any restrictions or limitations on the OFDM system such as increasing the number of pilots or cyclic prefix.

Simulation Model of Wireless Channel

The change of channel is caused by Doppler effect, and the degree of change is related to relative velocity in the condition of the certain carrier frequency. The multipath fading channel is independent of each other, whose amplitude obeys Rayleigh distribution and the phase obeys uniform distribution. The model of multipath time-varying transmission channel is built. Through the pro-cess of channel model building, the simulation results produced by the channel model verify the effect of the proposed model in the aspect of reducing test data. In a communication system, signal passing through the channel is involved with the process of digital modulation and demodulation. Binary sequence signal is modulated into a complex sequence in the process of modulation before the transmission in the channel, in order to accommodate the wireless channel transmission. With the increase of SNR, BER is overall slightly drops. However there exists violent fluctuation and it presents the random variation of details in the multipath channel. I employ the mathematical model of multipath time-varying channel, i.e. jakes model to be simulated so as to compare with the AGWN channel in the same situation. jakes model has the characteristics of the reference chan-nel compared with the AGWN. BER does not change with the increase of SNR significantly and coincides with multipath time-varying channel. The BER considerably decreases with the increase of SNR in the AGWN channel.
