The j integral of a Slightly Curved Elasticity-plasticity Crack when Enduring Quasi Static Loads

The j integral of an elastic-plastic curved crack under quasi-static loads has been mainly worked in the paper,and the j integral has been calculated as a practical application of a second order perturbation method and theorem of surname KA where the effect of quasi-static applied stresses and normal and shear stresses on the boundaries of plasticity area are synthetically taken into consideration.A regular pattern of variations of the j integral of an elastic-plastic curved crack with the variations of curved crack shape parameters under different quasi-static loads has been mainly carried *** and unity of a elastic-plastic fracture and linear elastic fracture has been demonstrated from the viewpoint of the mechanical parameter of the curved crack tip j *** elastic-plastic slightly curved crack tip j integral has been calculated approximately,an integral loop having been reasonably selected and continuity and unity of the fracture characteristic of centre penetration straight line crack and curved crack have been demonstrated.

Welded joint is a critical region of a welded *** operational safety of welded pressure equipment mostly depends on the behaviour of loaded *** of welded structure is dependent on the properties of welded joint as whole and of its constituents (parent metal,heat affected zone and weld metal).In this paper the behaviour of welded joint cracked constituents is *** integrity assessment procedure is applied to welded pressure vessel produced of high-strength low-alloyed steel,operating at-40°C,comparing crack driving force and material crack resistance,using path-independent contour j-integral as fracture mechanics *** comparison of crack driving force,expressed by j-integral and material resistant curve,j-R curve,provide the possibility to determine the extent of the stable crack as well as the critical crack size for its final fast propagation and also to assess the structural integrity of a cracked pressure vessel.

EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE ON THE FRACTURE MODES OF BHW-35 STEEL UNDER MODE-Ⅱ LOADING

Finite element method(FEM)has been used to analyze the stress and strain fields and the stress tri-axial levels around the tip of the crack under mode-Ⅱ *** results show that: under mode-Ⅱ loading,the direction of the maximum tensile stress and that of the maximum tri-axial levels(R_ )exist at an angle of-75.3°from the original crack plane:the maximum shear stress and R_ =0 exist along the original crack plane. Mode-Ⅱ loading experiment using BHW-35 steel at different temperatures show that there are two kinds of fracture *** mode(or tensile mode)and sliding mode(or shear mode).A de- crease in temperature causes the fracture mode to change from shear mode to tensile *** BHW- 35 steel,this critical temperature is *** any kind of loading mode(mode Ⅰ,mode Ⅱ,mode Ⅲ or mixed mode),there always exist several kinds of potenital fracture modes (for example,opening *** *** mode or mixed mode).The effect of temperature under mode-Ⅱ loading is actually related to the change of the elastic-plastic properties of the material.

In order to investigate fracture problems associated with cryopreservation of aorta,experiments were carried out to study the effects of temperature,freezing rate and cryoprotective agent on the fracture mechanics properties of frozen rabbit aorta and a test method for crack criterion of frozen rabbit aorta was *** showed that as temperature decreasing,the fracture modes of frozen rabbit aorta changed from typical ductile fracture to typical brittle fracture,the crack was more difficult to grow as temperature decreased,and its resist-fracture ability weakened remarkably from-20℃to -80℃.However,freezing rates had no effects on the fracture modes when sample was cooled to-50℃,while the resist-fracture ability was stronger when the sample was cooled at a higher freezing *** to the hydration action of dimethyl sulphoxide(DMSO),the rabbit aorta permeated by 10%(V/V) DMSO presented typical ductile fracture when it was cooled to-50℃,so its resist-fracture ability was enhanced *** to the axial sample,the circumferential sample’s resist-fracture ability is better because of its larger deformation energy available.
