DEAR EDITOR,The macaques belongs to the genus Macaca,consisting of at least 23 species(Roos et al.,2019).Among all congeners,rhesus macaque(M.mulatta)is regarded as the widest distributed non-human primate species in the world.Its native range spans in East Asia,northern part of Southeast Asia and Indian subcontinent(Liu et al.,2018).Listed as“Least Concern”on the IUCN Red List,this species is locally threatened due to habitat loss and degradation in China and Thailand(Lu et al.,2018).Nevertheless,pet release resulting in hybridization with other congeners(e.g.,rhesus macaque×crab-eating macaque(M.fascicularis))was documented in Hong Kong SAR,China(Wong&Ni,2000),threatening genetic integrity of wild populations.

DEAR EDITOR,Accurate estimation of population size is a crucial issue in wildlife population ecology and conservation.While Global Positioning System(GPS)collars are well recognized as an effective method for monitoring wildlife behavior,their application in direct wildlife population size estimation remains underutilized.In this study,GPS telemetry was employed to survey a rhesus macaque(Macaca mulatta)population on Neilingding island in Guangdong,China.From May 2021 to April 2022,32 macaques across nine groups were fitted with GPS collars,producing a dataset of 109739 location fixes.Analyzing data from all tracked individuals revealed the annual home ranges of the nine groups.

Background:Antimicrobial resistance(AMR)is one of the greatest threats to animal and public health.Here,we conducted a dynamic surveillance of Escherichia coli on Chongming island in Shanghai during 2009-2021 to identify the characteristics and trends of Chongming’s AMR pandemic.Methods:Rectal(cloaca)swabs from four poultry and nine swine farms(Chongming island,2009-2021)were collected for E.coli strains acquisition.The micro-broth dilution method was used to test antimicrobial susceptibility of E.coli isolates against 10 antimicrobial classes including 15 antimicrobials.Utilizing generalized linear mixed models(GLMMs)and co-occurrence analyses,we further explored the multiple-drug-resistance(MDR)combinations and dynamic patterns of E.coli over 10 years in two food animals.Results:Total of 863 MDR isolates were found among 945 collected E.coli isolates,337 from poultry and 608 from swine.Both isolates exhibited high resistant rates(>70%)to tetracyclines,phenicols,sulfonamides,penicillins,and aminoglycosides(only in swine).The resistant rates of swine isolates to penicillins,aminoglycosides,tetracyclines,phenicols,and polymyxins were significantly higher than those of poultry isolates,whereas resistance to fluoroquinolones was reversed.Resistance to polymyxins decreased similarly in swine(42.4%in 2009 to 0.0%in 2021)and poultry isolates(from 16.5%to 0.0%).However,resistance to other seven antimicrobial classes(excluding carbapenems and penicillins)declined dramatically in swine isolates,particularly fluoroquinolones(from 80.5%to 14.4%),and tendencies of resistance to the seven classes showed markedly divergent patterns in poultry isolates.Using Poisson GLMMs,the AMR carriage since 2016 was significantly lower than that of 2009(odds ratio<1),indicating a decline in the risk of MDR emergence.Furthermore,despite the highly diverse MDR profiles,co-occurrence analysis identified two prominent MDR clusters of penicillins-phenicols-fluoroquinolones in poultry and aminoglycosides-tetracyclines-sulfonamides-phenicols in sw

The aim of this study is to examine the progress of the worldwide pandemic Covid-19.As authors,we have decided to analyze the situation of COVID-19 onMediterranean islandwith accurate data.For this purpose,amathematical model is constructed and proposed by dividing the whole population into sensible and suitable compartments.The study captures the dates February 01 till May 15,2021.For the control of the spread of disease,vaccination and infection rates are compared and calculated.During calculations and comparison,MatLab software is used.All of the data that are used are taken from the Ministry of Health.The effect of parameters is examined with sensitivity analysis.Furthermore,with this analysis,values of parameters are obtained.Afterwards,by using the constructed model,the effect of vaccine on infected individuals is analyzed separately.As a result,it is concluded that the studied part of the island is late for the control of the disease via vaccine.This can be explained by two main reasons;vaccinating the people that are not inmobilitymost of the time(aged people and people with chronic diseases)and getting the vaccine late.Hence,the results showed that this rate and distribution of vaccines would not be enough to control the pandemic on the island.
