Organic and Inorganic Mercury in Biological Samples of Flouresecent Lamp industries Workers and Health Risks

Objective The present study aims to investigate the concentrations of Hg and its aspects methyl mercury(Me-Hg)and inorganic mercury(I-Hg)in the biological samples(BSs)of fluorescent lamp industries workers(FLIWs).Methodology Different BSs including red blood cells(RBCs),plasma,urine,hair and nails were collected from the workers exposed to Hg and unexposed persons were selected as control group to measure both the T-Hg concentration as well as its species in different biological samples through quantitative *** data was collected through questionnaire *** The mean concentrations of T-Hg(31.9μg/L),Me-Hg(27.7μg/L),and I-Hg(5.36μg/L)in RBCs were found significantly(P<0.001)higher among the workers(n=40)as compared to the control group(n=40).Similarly the mean Hg concentrations in plasma,urine,hair and nails were also significantly higher among the workers than the control *** statistical relation between Hg concentration and demographic characteristics observed that workers experience and fish consumption has increased the Hg concentration while age,weight and smoking found no significant effect on Hg concentration in the *** The study observed that the workers were highly exposed to high concentration of Hg and they are at a high health risk.

Nexus between creative industries and the built environment:Creative placemaking in inner Auckland

A significant body of literature has examined the location decision-making of creative industry ***,research on the nexus between design creative industries and the built environment remains *** key finding of this qualitative research is that design creative industries are mostly the users of the inner city's former industrial buildings that are occupied on leases from property owners who are responsible for the initial physical *** condition is largely due to the low level of property ownership among this group and the lack of incentive to invest additional capital to their business ***,design creative industries cannot be conceptualized as leading actors in urban redevelopment or initiators of urban transformation on a large ***,they represent a latent demand for physical space and a rich source of inspiration and creative *** this regard,design creative industries play a key role as enablers of postindustrial real estate development driven by proactive property developers who transform former industrial buildings into a new form of revenue-generating urban commodities.

Has EU ETS caused carbon leakage in the EU carbon-intensive industries?A study from the perspective of bilateral trade

Reducing carbon leakage is one of the important reasons that was put forward by the EU for their border adjustment tax ***,there are not many empirical evidences supporting significant carbon leakage in the EU carbonintensive *** paper applied the structural breakpoint test for the time series of import and export of cement,aluminum,and steel between EU and *** significant structural changes were detected in the import and export of cement and ***,there proved to be two breakpoints,i.e.,2003 and 2008,in the import and export of steel,in which at the second point the overall level of steel import ***,Granger causality test was applied to the carbon price from European Climate Exchange and the import and export of *** was found that the carbon price was the Granger cause for the changes of steel import,but not the Granger cause for the *** results of the study showed that the impacts of EU ETS on the EU carbon-intensive industries were *** the three industries,partial evidence of carbon leakage was only found in the steel ***,reducing carbon leakage could not serve as a convincing justification for border adjustment tax.

Market Demand,Technological Innovation and Development of China's Strategic Emerging industries

Strategic emerging industries have become an important engine of economic growth and main power to boost *** gather panel data of 31 provinces and cities in China from 2003 to 2013,and empirically analyze the impact of market demand,R&D investment,technology innovation and new products output on the development of China's strategic emerging industries. The results suggest the growing domestic and international market demands are main factors to the development of strategic emerging industries.R&D investment,technology innovation and new products output also play important roles in promoting the development of strategic emerging industries. The objective conclusions are obtained through theoretical and empirical analyses.

AN ANALYSIS OF RELEVANT CONDITIONS FOR DEVELOPING RESOURCE-TYPE industries IN CHINA

Resource-type industries are significance in national economy in the initial stage of industrialization and urbanization in developing countries including China. China is abundant in energy resources, but their distribution is uneven. The prospect of iron and steel industry from the supply of iron ore and coal as well as nonferous metallurgical industry, and chemical industry, is discussed. Processing of agricultural product is an important component of resource-type industries, and the base of light industry. The current status of light industry and different potentials in China’s provinces are analysed. The author classifies all provinces into five types according to the spatial combination of minerals in China, and argues that four indicators have to be taken into account with regard to the appraisal of geographical position.

Heavy Metals in Soils and Plants around industries in Agbara Industrial Estate, Ogun State, Nigeria

Indiscriminate handling and disposal of industrial effluents into the environment represents one of the major sources of environmental pollution which invariably affect plants, animals and humans. This study assessed heavy metal concentration in soils and plants around industries in Agbara industrial estate, Ogun State, Nigeria. Soil and plant samples were collected from four industries and analyzed for lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), chromium (Cr) and nickel (Ni). The pH, organic matter content and cation exchange capacity of the soil samples, as well as bioaccumulation factor (BAF) and translocation factor (TF) of the plant samples were examined. The heavy metal concentration order of the soil and plant samples was Pb ?1, 50 mg kg?1, 10 mg kg?1 and 50 mg kg?1 respectively) while Cd was above WHO tolerance limit (3 mg kg?1). Also, Pb, Cd, Cu, and Cr in most plant samples were above WHO tolerance limits (10 mg kg?1, 0.30 mg kg?1, 10 mg kg?1 and 1.5 mg kg?1 respectively). Statistical differences (P Cyperus iria, Alternanthera sessilis, C. esculentus, A. brasiliana, and Megathyrsus maximus are probable accumulators of heavy metals.

Assessment of Heavy Metals Pollution in Soils and Vegetation around Selected industries in Lagos State, Nigeria

In this study, eleven soil samples and twenty-twoplants samples were collected in the vicinity of eleven industries and a thermal station was analyzed for zinc, copper, iron, lead and cadmium. Soil sample from Egbin thermal station had the highest concentration of Zn (141.06 mg/kg) and Cu (131.70 mg/kg). Soil from international textile had the highest level of Fe and the soil from Ni-chemtex had the highest concentration Pb and Cd was the highest in soil from Guinness (28.91 mg/kg, 59.80 mg/kg and 1.72 mg/kg respectively). The highest concentrations of the heavy metals were observed from different plants species. Analyses of variance (p 0.5). There were positive correlations between the heavy metals in the soils and the plant samples indicated that the plants obtained the heavy metals from the soil. Plants having BCF values less than one had limited ability to accumulate, translocate and phytoextract heavy metals. These plants in this study with higher Bioconcentration Factor value especially those greater than one (Croton lobatus, Borreria sp., Cy-athula prostrata, Lantana camara, Ficus sp., Mimosa pudica, Eclipta prostrata, Commelina sp. etc.) were suggested for further research and assessment on their bioaccumulation abilities and phy-toremediation potential.

Analyzing the Role of Creative industries in National Economy of Japan: 1995-2005

The purposes of this study are 1) to get another perspective related to the role of creative industries in national economy of Japan from 1995-2005 and 2) to know the ways to improve these sectors. This study employs Input-Output (IO) analysis as a tool of analysis. More specifically, this study uses simple output multipliers and demand-pull IO quantity model. Comparison with previous study is conducted in order to achieve the first objective. Another perspective related to above role is obtained from this study, namely creative industries, using simple output multipliers method, did not have an important role in national economy of Japan in analysis period. The results also show that the patterns of total output of creative industries of Japan on future period are not identic. Nevertheless, these sectors have one similarity, namely the modification of import will decrease their total output. This phenomenon indicates that import restriction related to these sector’s products is needed.
