Background: Bilirubin is the metabolic end-product of heme degradation by heme oxy-genase (HO), which has recently been shown to act as an antioxidant which can protect against atherosclerosis. This study explored the relationship between serum bilirubin levels and different degrees of atherosclerotic stenosis in intracranial or extracranial arteries. Methods: The study included 189 patients undergoing digital subtraction angiography (DSA) diagnosed as being normal or having been confirmed as atherosc lerotic stenosis in the intracranial or extracranial arteries. The patients were allocated to normal, mild (Results: indirect bilirubin (Ibil) concentrations increased in parallel with the increasing severity of atherosclerotic stenosis in the intracranial or extracranial arteries, but decreased in patients with occluded cranial vessels. Multivariate analysis showed that Ibil levels were significantly higher in patients with severe stenosis group than in those with mild stenosis (OR, 1.464;95% CI, 1.050 - 2.042;P = 0.024). However, Ibil levels were significantly lower in patients with occlusion than in those with severe stenosis (OR, 0.790;95% CI, 0.684 - 0.913;P = 0.001). Conclusions: Ibil appears to have a protective effect against the development of atherosclerotic stenosis in intracranial or extracranial arteries. The biosynthesis of Ibil increases with stenosis progresses but decreases once occlusion occurs.

This paper has studied the recycling of the oxidation mediator Mn(Ⅲ)/Mn(Ⅱ) and sulfuric acid solution in process of indirect electrosynthesis of benzaldehyde. Experimental resalts show that mis recycling may be realized When electrolysis and synthetic reaction are carried out in the same concentration of 60% H2SO4 separately, then there will be no waste discharged, energy consumption will be decreased and almost no current efficiency will be lossed during recycling process. The optimun current efficiency is 76%, yield of benzaldehyde is 64%.

Full-length nucleoproteins from Ebola and Marburg viruses were expressed as His-tagged recombinant proteins in Escherichia coli and nucleoprotein-based enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays(ELISAs) were established for the detection of antibodies specific to Ebola and Marburg viruses. The ELISAs were evaluated by testing antisera collected from rabbit immunized with Ebola and Marburg virus nucleoproteins. Although little cross-reactivity of antibodies was observed in antiEbola virus nucleoprotein rabbit antisera, the highest reactions to immunoglobulin G(Ig G) were uniformly detected against the nucleoprotein antigens of homologous viruses. We further evaluated the ELISA's ability to detect antibodies to Ebola and Marburg viruses using human sera samples collected from individuals passing through the Guangdong port of entry. With a threshold set at the mean plus three standard deviations of average optical densities of sera tested, the ELISA systems using these two recombinant nucleoproteins have good sensitivity and specificity. These results demonstrate the usefulness of ELISA for diagnostics as well as ecological and serosurvey studies of Ebola and Marburg virus infection.

The concept of using multiple deep images,under a variety of different names, has been explored as a possible acceleration approach for finding raygeometry intersections. We leverage recent advances in deep image processing from order independent transparency for fast building of a compound deep image(CDI) using a coherent memory format well suited for raycasting. We explore the use of a CDI and raycasting for the problem of determining distance between virtual point lights(VPLs) and geometry for indirect lighting,with the key raycasting step being a small fraction of total frametime.

We proposed a novel efficient operation scheme for a thermal power plant’s air-cooling system based on peak shaving, in order to cope with high ambient temperature in summer. We introduced an absorptiongeneration equipment with water/lithium working pairs into the air cooled condenser(ACC) to reconstruct the traditional thermal power plant, and established a dynamic thermodynamic model adopting Ebsilon code. We studied the thermodynamic performance variation of the reconstructed thermal power plant throughout a 24-hour cycle and found that the fluctuation ratio of the turbine back pressure decreased to 6% from 78%, which is beneficial for the stable and safe operation of the electric power system. The thermal performance improvement benefited from the exploitation of the heat transfer potential of ACC, which realized via cold duty schedule throughout the day, under different ambient temperature conditions. In this system, the generated power was higher at relatively high ambient temperature than that at relatively low ambient temperature, which solved the electricity demand-supply imbalance problem under high ambient temperature. Finally, the same optimization effects for power thermal plants with an indirect air-cooling system were obtained using the same operation scheme.
