This paper proposes five Indicators to evaluate the effectiveness and viability for adverse glycemic events detection based on predicted blood glucose(BG)values.False negative rate(FNR)and false positive rate(FPR)are defined to evaluate whether it can detect adverse glycemic events(AGEs)based on the predicted value.The temporal overlap(TO)and time difference(TD)are proposed to evaluate whether the predicted model can capture the accurate time duration of AGEs.The sum of squared percent(SSP)measures comprehensive similarity between prediction values and true values.We examined 328 patients with type 2 diabetes,containing real continuous glucose monitoring data with 5-minute time intervals.Autoregressive integrated moving average model has lower FNR and FPR.The gated recurrent unit has better temporal behavior where the mean TO with standard deviation is calculated as 0.84±0.18,and the mean TD with standard deviation is(4.39±4.01)min.Neural models have better effects on SSP(for hypoglycemia,long-short tern memory possesses 0.149 and 0.246).These five Indicators are able to evaluate whether we can detect abnormal BG levels and reveal the temporal behavior of AGEs effectively.The proposed neural predictive models have more promising application in AGE detection.

Tai Lake(Ch: Taihu) has attracted international attention forcyanobacteria blooms.However, the drivers of cultural eutrophication, especially long-term socio-economic Indicators have been little researched. The results of research demonstrate how socioeconomic development affected quality of water and how it has been improved by anthropogenic activities. This study described variability in Indicators of water quality in Tai Lakeand investigated thedrivers. Significant relationships existed between concentrations of annual mean total nitrogen(TN), total phosphorous(TP), chemical oxygen demand(COD) and biological oxygen demand(BOD), and population, per capital gross domestic production(GDP) and sewage discharge(p < 0.05). However, mechanisms causing change varied among TN, TP, COD and BOD. Before 2000, the main contributors to increases in concentrations of TN were human population, GDP and volumes of domestic sewage discharges. After 2000, discharges of industrial sewage become the primary contributor. After 1998, the regressions of annual mean TN, TP and COD on per capital GDP, population and domestic sewage discharge were reversed compared to the former period. Since 1999, an apparent inverted U-shaped relationship between environmental pollution and economic development has developed, which indicated that actions taken by governments have markedly improved quality of water in Tai Lake. The statistical relationship between BOD and per capital GDP didn't conform to the Kuznet curve. The Ushaped Kuznet curve may offer hope for the future that with significant environmental investments a high GDP can be reached and maintained without degradation of the environment, especially through appropriate management of industrial sewage discharge.

Purpose-Key performance Indicators(KPIs)of maintenance systems serve as benchmarks to workers and organizations to compare their goals for decision-making purposes.Unfortunately,the effects of one KPI on the other are least known,restraining decisions on prioritization of KPIs.This article examines and prioritizes the KPIs of the maintenance system in a food processing industry using the novel Taguchi(T)scheme-decisionmaking trial and evaluation laboratory(DEMATEL)method,Taguchi-Pareto(TP)scheme-DEMATEL method and the DEMATEL method.Design/methodology/approach-The causal association of maintenance process parameters(frequency of failure,downtime,MTTR,MTBF,availability and MTTF)was studied.Besides,the optimized maintenance parameters were infused into the DEMATEL method that translates the optimized values into cause and effect responses and keeping in view the result of analysis.Data collection was done from a food processing plant in Nigeria.Findings-The results indicated that downtime and availability have the most causal effects on other criteria when DEMATEL and T-DEMATEL methods were respectively applied to the problem.Furthermore,the frequency of failure is mostly affected by other criteria in the key performance indication selection using the two methods.The combined Taguchi scheme and DEMATEL method is appropriate to optimize and establish the causal relationships of factors.Originality/value-Hardly any studies have reported the joint optimization and causal relationship of maintenance system parameters.However,the current study achieves this goal using the T-DEMATEL,TP-DEMATEL and DEMATEL methods for the first time.The applied methods effectively ease decisions on prioritization of KPIs for enhancement.

The spatio-temporal variations of surface water quality and the level of metal contamination in the sediment of Pazarsuyu Stream were determined by using multivariate statistical techniques and pollution Indicators,respectively.The water and sediment samples were collected monthly from four different stations along the Pazarsuyu Stream between June 2014 and May 2015 and analyzed using standard methods.Results were assessed according to national and international water quality criteria and the water quality parameters in some stations were found to be over these criteria levels.The present study showed that statistical techniques such as Pearson Correlation Index (PCI),Principal Component Analysis (PCA),Cluster Analysis (CA),One Way ANOVA need to be used to get better information for the studies on the water quality of surface waters.PCA identified six factors accounting for 82.88% of the total variation in the data.The abundance of sediment heavy metals was in the order of Fe > Mn > Zn > Pb > Cu> Cr > Co > Cd.The heavy metal contamination in the sediments was evaluated by applying the enrichment factor (EF),contamination factor (CF),geoaccumulation index (lgeo) and potential ecological risk index (PERI).Pb was heavily contaminated and has a significant enrichment of contamination according to calculated EF values.Therefore,the stream water can be used for irrigation with precaution but extensive treatment required before using for domestic purposes to prevent adverse public health effects.

Early Warning of Acute Altitude Sickness by Physiological Variables and Noninvasive Cardiovascular Indicators

Objective To examine if the variations at sea level would be able to predict subsequent susceptibility to acute altitude sickness in subjects upon a rapid ascent to high altitude.Methods One hundred and six Han nationality male individuals were recruited to this research.Dynamic electrocardiogram,treadmill exercise test,echocardiography,routine blood examination and biochemical analysis were performed when subjects at sea level and entering the plateau respectively.Then multiple regression analysis was performed to construct a multiple linear regression equation using the Lake Louise Score as dependent variable to predict the risk factors at sea level related to acute mountain sickness(AMS).Results Approximately 49.05%of the individuals developed AMS.The tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion(22.0+2.66 vs.23.2+3.19 mm,t=l.998,P=0.048)was significantly lower in the AMS group at sea level,while count of eosinophil[(0.264+0.393)×109/L vs.(0.126+0.084)×109/L,t=-2.040,P—0.045],percentage of diflerences exceeding 50 ms between adjacent normal number of intervals(PNN50,9.66%±5.40%vs.6.98%±5.66%,t=-2.229,P=0.028)and heart rate variability triangle index(57.1+16.1 vs.50.6+12.7,t=-2.271,P=0.025)were significantly higher.After acute exposure to high altitude,C-reactive protein(0.098+0.103 vs.0.062+0.045 g/L,t=-2.132,P=0.037),aspartate aminotransferase(19.7+6.7275.17,3±3.95 U/L,t=-2.231,P=0.028)and creatinine(85.1±12.9 vs.77.7±11.2 mmol/L,t=3.162,P=0.002)were significantly higher in the AMS group,while alkaline phosphatase(71.7+18.2 vs.80.6+20.2 U/L,t=2.389,P=0.019),standard deviation of normal-to-normal RR intervals(126.5+35.9 vs.143.3+36.4 ms,t—2.320,P—0.022),ejection time(276.9+50.8 vs.313.8+48.9 ms,t—3.641,P—0.001)and heart rate variability triangle index(37.1+12.9 vs.41.9+11.1,t=2.O2O,P=0.047)were significantly lower.Using the Lake Louise Score as the dependent variable,prediction equation were established to estimate AMS:Lake Louise Score=3.783+0.281Xeosinophil-0.219Xalkaline phosphatase+O.O32XPNN50.Conclusions We

AIM To study implications of measuring quality Indicators on training and trainees' performance in pediatric colonoscopy in a low-volume training center.METHODS We reviewed retrospectively the performance of pediatric colonoscopies in a training center in Malaysia over 5 years(January 2010-December 2015), benchmarked against five quality Indicators: appropriateness of indications, bowel preparations, cecum and ileal examination rates, and complications. The European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy guideline for pediatric endoscopy and North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition training guidelines were used as benchmarks.RESULTS Median(± SD) age of 121 children [males = 74(61.2%)] who had 177 colonoscopies was 7.0(± 4.6) years. On average, 30 colonoscopies were performed each year(range: 19-58). Except for investigations of abdominal pain(21/177, 17%), indications for colonoscopies were appropriate in the remaining 83%. Bowel preparation was good in 87%. One patient(0.6%) with severe Crohn's disease had bowel perforation. Cecum examination and ileal intubation rate was 95% and 68.1%. Ileal intubation rate was significantly higher in diagnosing or assessing inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) than non-IBD(72.9% vs 50.0%; P = 0.016). Performance of four trainees was consistent throughout the study period. Average cecum and ileal examination rate among trainees were 97% and 77%.CONCLUSION Benchmarking against established guidelines helps units with a low-volume of colonoscopies to identify area for further improvement.

Data availability is a persistent constraint in social policy analysis.Web 2.0 technologies could provide valuable new data sources,but first,their potentials and limitations need to be investigated.This paper reports on a method using Twitter data for deriving indications of active citizenship,taken as an example of social Indicators.Active citizenship is a dimension of social capital,empowering communities and reducing possibilities of social exclusion.However,classical measurements of active citizenship are generally costly and time-consuming.This paper looks at one of such classic Indicators,namely,responses to the survey question‘contacts to politicians’.It compares official survey results in Spain with findings from an analysis of Twitter data.Each method presents its own strengths and weakness,thus best results may be achieved by the combination of both.Official surveys have the clear advantage of being statistically robust and representative of a total population.Instead,Twitter data offer more timely and less costly information,with higher spatial and temporal resolution.This paper presents our full methodological workflow for analysing and comparing these two data sources.The research results advance the debate on how social media data could be mined for policy analysis.

Introduction:Interrelated social and ecological challenges demand an understanding of how environmental change and management decisions affect human well-being.This paper out-lines a framework for measuring human well-being for ecosystem-based management(EBM).We present a prototype that can be adapted and developed for various scales and contexts.Scientists and managers use Indicators to assess status and trends in integrated ecosystem assessments(IEAs).To improve the social science rigor and success of EBM,we developed a systematic and transparent approach for evaluating Indicators of human well-being for an IEA.Methods:Our process is based on a comprehensive conceptualization of human well-being,a scalable analysis of management priorities,and a set of indicator screening criteria tailored to the needs of EBM.We tested our approach by evaluating more than 2000 existing social Indicators related to ocean and coastal management of the US West Coast.We focused on two foundational attributes of human well-being:resource access and self-determination.Outcomes and Discussion:Our results suggest that existing Indicators and data are limited in their ability to reflect linkages between environmental change and human well-being,and extremely limited in their ability to assess social equity and justice.We reveal a critical need for new social Indicators tailored to answer environmental questions and new data that are disaggregated by social variables to measure equity.In both,we stress the importance of collaborating with the people whose well-being is to be assessed.Conclusion:Our framework is designed to encourage governments and communities to carefully assess the complex tradeoffs inherent in environmental decision-making.
