In this paper, the scattering of elastic waves by a plane interface crack in Layered media is investigated. By Fourier integral transform, the method of transfer matrix is extended to the scattering of elastic waves by a plane interface crack in layered media, and the problems are reduced to a set of dual integral equations in matrix form. As an example, the far field modes of scattering of elastic waves by a plane interface crack in a layered half space have been presented. Amplitudes in far field modes are plotted versus incident wave frequency for several groups of different material combinations, and the numerical results show that resonance peaks occur at some frequencies. The frequencies at which the resonanse peaks occur for P and SV waves are almost the same.

Two reflected beams of a slightly divergent ultrasonic Gaussian beam on a water-glass interface are observed and recorded by a Schlieren system. The lateral displacements of the two reflected beams are measured for incident angle θi in a wide range of 10° around the Rayleigh angle θc. The displacements decrease as the incident angle increases, which is different from the previous predictions for bounded plane-wave beams, where the displacements have extremum at the Rayleigh angle θc.The explanation is based on the fact that the Gaussian beam generated by an ultrasonic transducer with a button (or strip) back electrode is actually slightly divergent. We extend Bertoni and Tamir's theory (Appl. Phys. 2 (1973) 157) to this case, and our calculated curves of the displacements against the incident angle are in agreement with the experimental results for |θi - θc| < 2°.

Self-pumped phase conjugation has been observed in Ce-doped(K_(0.5)Na_(0.5))2y(Sr_(0.61)Ba_(0.39))_(1-y)Nb_(2)O_(6)(KNSBN)crystal at 633nm by using He-Ne laser.The phase conjugate reflectivity as high as 40% was measured.The reflectivity as function of incident angles and the relation of response time to the incident intensities were studied experimentally.

The(001)oriented yttria-stabilized zirconia(YSZ)Hlms with in-plane biaxial texture have been deposited on Si(111)substrates by ion beam assisted deposition at ambient temperature.The effects of ion/atom arrival rate fatio(R=(Ar^(+)+O2^(+))/ZrO_(2))and incident angle of bombarding ion beam on the Him texture development were investigated.It was found that the in-plane biaxial texture of the films was improved gradually with increasing ion/atom arrival rate ratio R up to a critical value 1,9,but it was degraded with the further increase of R.The optimal in-plane biaxial texture,whose full width at half maximum of the(111)4>-scan spectrum is 14°,can be obtained at R=1.9 and incident angle of 55°.For a fixed R,the optimal crystallinity and in-plane biaxial alignment of the YSZ Hlms did not appear at the same incident angle and showed an opposite variation with the change of the incident angle from 51°to 55°.C-axis alignment(perpendicular to substrate surface)does not show any substantial variation with the change of incident angle within the range of 47°-56°.

We showed that,in contrast to the results in literature,the Bragg peak intensity of Ni_(80)Fe_(20)/Cu superlattices is enhanced at the incident x-ray energy slightly higher than the absorption edge of the heavier element(Cu).The atomic density at Ni_(80)Fe_(20)/Cu interface was analysed by the diffraction anomalous fine structure technology with the incident angle of x-ray fixed at the first Bragg peak.Our results demonstrate the epitaxy growth of Ni_(80)Fe_(20)/Cu superlattices.Upon annealing,the epitaxity of Ni_(80)Fe_(20)/Cu multilayers becomes poor but the local crystallinity in each layer is improved.

Experimental evidence of abnormally deep penetration in some botanical targets by low-energy ion beams is presented.The energy spectra of 818 keV He^(+)ions penetrating a 70μm thick seed coat of maize,fruit peel of grape and of tomato all have a common feature.The leading edges of these broad spectra indicate that some of the penetrating ions pass through the thick targets easily and only lose a small fraction of their initial incident energy.Rutherford backscattering spectrometry and electron microprobe measurements are used to determine the argon concentration in multilayer samples of the seed coat of maize implanted by 200 keV Ar^(+)ions.The results show that about 10%of the Ar^(+)ions can penetrate deeper than~100μm in these samples.

We report that a metal-dielectric-metal cavity with a perforated top metallic filn shows a remarkable polarizationselective collimation effect through reflection on the perforated film.According to simulations,such plasmonic cavities can achieve nearly perfect absorption (Rincident angle while nearly perfect reflection (R~100%) at normal incidence.A very wide incident angle range (approximately 15°-65°) is found to exhibit a high absorption ratio exceeding over 70%.In contrast,for a transverse electric (TE) wave,the plasmonic cavities remain highly reflective (R~100%) regardless of the incident angles.We elucidate that this polarization- and angle-dependent behavior arises from an even-order (N =2) horizontal Fabry-Perot (FP) resonant mode inside the plasmonic cavity.This effect may find potential applications for angle filtering of polarized divergent light beams in optics.

Transmission energy spectra of 530 keV H^(+) ion penetrating 140μm thick seed coat of maize and fruit peel of grape with thickness of 100μm were measured.The result indicates that these thick biological targets,as seen by the penetrating ions,are inhomogeneous,and there are open“channel like”paths along which the incidentions can transmit the targets easily.While most of the incident ions are stopped in the targets,some of the transmitting ions only lose a small fraction of their initial incident energy.The transmission energy spectra show a pure electronic stopping feature.Transmission electron microscope(TEM)micrographes taken from the samples of seed coat of maize and fruit peel of tomato with thickness of 60μm indicate that 150keV electron beam from the TEM can penetrate the thick samples to give very good images with clear contrasts.
