Evaluation of steroidogenic capacity after follicle stimulating hormone stimulation in bovine granulosa cells of Revalor 200~ implanted heifers

Background： Heifers not used as breeding stock are often implanted with steroids to increase growth efficiency thereby altering hormone profiles and potentially changing the environment in which ovarian follicles develop. Because bovine granulosa cell culture is a commonly used technique and often bovine ovaries are collected from abattoirs with no record of implant status, the objective of this study was to determine if the presence of an implant during bovine granulosa cell development impacts follicle stimulating hormone-regulated steroidogenic enzyme expression. Paired ovaries were collected from 16 feedlot heifers subjected to 1 of 3 treatments： non-implanted （n = 5）, Revalor 200 for 28 d （n = 5）, or Revalor 200 for 84 d （n = 6）. Small follicle （1 to 5 mm） granulosa cells were isolated from each pair and incubated with phosphate buffered saline （n = 16） or 100 ng/mL follicle stimulating hormone （n = 16） for 24 h. Results： Granulosa cells of implanted heifers treated with follicle stimulating hormone produced medium concentrations of progesterone similar （P = 0.22） to non-implanted heifers, while medium estradiol concentrations were increased （P 〈 0.10） at 28 and 84 d compared to non-implanted heifers indicating efficacy of treatment. Additionally, real-time PCR analysis in response to follicle stimulating hormone treatment demonstrated a decrease in steroidogenic acute regulatory protein （P = 0.05） mRNA expression in heifers implanted for 84 d and an increase in P450 side chain cleavage mRNA in granulosa cells of heifers implanted for 28 （P 〈 0.10） or 84 d （P 〈 0.05） compared to non-implanted females. However, no difference in expression of 3-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase （P= 0.57） and aromatase （P = 0.23） were demonstrated in implanted or non-implanted heifers. AIM: To evaluate the clinical results, efficacy and safety of Ex-PRESS P200 glaucoma shunt implant in different types of medically uncontrolled glaucoma. METHODS: The study included 31 eyes of 31 patients that were unresponsive to medical antiglaucomatous therapy in whom Ex-PRESS P200 glaucoma shunt implantation was performed. The demographic characteristics of the patients, type of glaucoma, complete ocular examination results, number of antiglaucomatous drugs before and after surgery, early and late complications of surgery, additional surgical and nonsurgical medical interventions, and success rates were investigated from the patients’ files, retrospectively. RESULTS: The mean postoperative follow-up time was 16.4±7.5 mo. Efficacy of using NRT thresholds in cochlear implants fitting,in prelingual pediatric patients

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy of using neural response telemetry(NRT)thresholds in predicting behavioural thresholds during programming of cochlear implant in prelingual ***:Prospective study of 28 cochlear implants implanted with Nucleus 24 cochlear *** recorded NRT-thresholds on electrode numbers 1,6,11,16 and 22 of the electrode array in each patient,the neural response thresholds were correlated with the behavioural map after six months of programming the ***:The mean neural response telemetry level was significantly higher than the mean threshold level(T-level)but lower than the comfortable level(C-level)in all the electrodes *** levels could statistically significantly predict T behavioural levels and comfortable behavioural levels,pimplants.

Assessment of outcomes of hearing and speech rehabilitation in children with cochlear implantation

Objectives:This study aimed to assess the effect of hearing and speech rehabilitation in patients with Nurotron■cochlear ***:Ninety-eight paediatric patients with bilateral severe-to-profound sensorineural deafness who received cochlear implantation were divided into three groups according to age:group A(≤3 years),group B(4-7 years),and group C(8-16 years).All patients were followed up for one year for hearing and speech performance after the *** comprehensive Auditory Perception Assessment,MAIS,CAP and SIR hearing and speech assessments and rating materials were used for assessment before the surgery and at 3,6,and 12 months after implant ***:The scores of patients in the open-set speech assessment,Chinese Auditory Perception Assessment,MAIS,CAP and SIR significantly improved after cochlear implantation in all age *** younger the age at implantation,the better the ***,the hearing and speech performance of cochlear implant recipients gradually improved with the extension of rehabilitation ***:Nurotron■Venus^TM cochlear implantation can improve the hearing and speech performance of patients with bilateral severe-to-profound sensorineural deafness.

Cochlear implantation outcomes in children with common cavity deformity;a retrospective study

Objective: A common cavity deformity(CCD) is a deformed inner ear in which the cochlea and vestibule are confluent forming a common rudimentary cystic cavity that results in profound hearing loss. There are few studies paying attention to common cavity. Our group is engrossed in observing the improvement of auditory and verbal abilities in children who have received cochlear implantation(CI), and comparing these targets between children with common cavity and normal inner ear *** and methods: A retrospective study was conducted in 12 patients with profound hearing loss that were divided into a common cavity group and a control group, six in each group matched in sex, age and time of implantation, based on inner ear structure. Categories of Auditory Performance(CAP) and speech intelligibility rating(SIR) scores and aided hearing thresholds were collected and compared between the two groups. All patients wore CI for more than 1 year at the Cochlear Center of Anhui Medical University from 2011 to ***: Postoperative CAP and SIR scores were higher than before operation in both groups(p < 0.05), although the scores were lower in the CCD group than in the control group(p < 0.05). The aided threshold was also lower in the control group than in the CCD group(p < 0.05).Conclusion: Even though audiological improvement in children with CCD was not as good as in those without CCD, CI provides benefits in auditory perception and communication skills in these children.

Magnetic resonance imaging after cochlear implants

Introduction: Most cochlear implants are currently compatible with magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) up to 3 ***, this does not completely eliminate the risk of serious accidents. implant displacements and other adverse events with compatible implants have been reported in the *** reports: Among the six patients who had MRI after receiving implants at our center, we report three cases with adverse events related to the examination. The first case was complicated by magnet displacement with partial demagnetization. The second case showed total demagnetization, which necessitated removal and reimplantation of the implant. The third case involved severe pain sensation which disrupted the MRI scan. The smallest artifact was found with 3D MRI angiography, and largest artifact was found with diffusion and T2 ***: Moving the patient into the MRI apparatus must be supervised by an otorhinolaryngology specialist or an experienced radiologist. It is important to consider the magnetic field directions, so that angle between the implant magnetic fields and the MRI B0 always remains less than or equal to 90°. In addition, we recommend the use of an "arrow drawing" to facilitate the orientation of the magnetic field directions. Furthermore, to prevent magnet displacement, we recommend systematic use of a protective splint in addition to bandaging.

Total hip replacement:A meta-analysis to evaluate survival of cemented,cementless and hybrid implants

AIM To determine whether cemented, cementless, or hybrid implant was superior to the other in terms of survival *** Systematic searches across MEDLINE, CINAHL, and Cochrane that compared cemented, cementless and hybrid total hip replacement(THR) were performed. Two independent reviewers evaluated the risk ratios of revision due to any cause, aseptic loosening, infection, and dislocation rate of each implants with a pre-determined form. The risk ratios were pooled separately for clinical trials, cohorts and registers before pooled altogether using fixed-effect model. Meta-regressions were performed to identify the source of heterogeneity. Funnel plots were analyzed. RESULTS Twenty-seven studies comprising 5 clinical trials, 9 cohorts, and 13 registers fulfilled the research criteria and analyzed. Compared to cementless THR, cemented THR have pooled RR of 0.47(95%CI: 0.45-0.48), 0.9(0.84-0.95), 1.29(1.06-1.57) and 0.69(0.6-0.79) for revision due to any reason, revision due to aseptic loosening, revision due to infection, and dislocation respectively. Compared to hybrid THR, the pooled RRs of cemented THR were 0.82(0.76-0.89), 2.65(1.14-6.17), 0.98(0.7-1.38), and 0.67(0.57-0.79) respectively. Compared to hybrid THR, cementless THR had RRs of 0.7(0.65-0.75), 0.85(0.49-1.5), 1.47(0.93-2.34) and 1.13(0.98-1.3).CONCLUSION Despite the limitations in this study, there was some tendency that cemented fixation was still superior than other types of fixation in terms of implant survival.
