An Insect imaging system to Automate Rice Light-Trap Pest Identification

Identification and counting of rice light-trap pests are important to monitor rice pest population dynamics and make pest forecast. Identification and counting of rice light-trap pests manually is time-consuming, and leads to fatigue and an increase in the error rate. A rice light-trap insect imaging system is developed to automate rice pest identification. This system can capture the top and bottom images of each insect by two cameras to obtain more image features. A method is proposed for removing the background by color difference of two images with pests and non-pests. 156 features including color, shape and texture features of each pest are extracted into an support vector machine （SVM） classifier with radial basis kernel function. The seven-fold cross-validation is used to improve the accurate rate of pest identification. Four species of Lepidoptera rice pests are tested and achieved 97.5% average accurate rate.

In order to detect the damage of casing boreholes, an acoustic imaging method with a two-dimensional ultrasonic array was presented. Each element of the array independently emits down ultrasonic waves, the echoes received by all elements are sampled and transmitted to a computer on ground surface, where the dynamic migration method is used to form a 2 or 3-dimensional image of the situation in the borehole. The numerical simulation and experiment are conducted that demonstrate a high imaging accuracy with a small number of elements used in array. Since the delay circuits used in the traditional phased array imaging system is not needed in this system, and all data process could be completed in a ground system. the complexity and the volume of system in borehole may be significantly simplified, which is critical to the borehole instrument.

For disadvantage of lower transmission speed which exist in embedded imaging system using TCP/IP protocol stack,this paper proposed a new communication method which based on custom Ethernet frame. This paper defined several kinds of frames and designed a control protocol based on state machine for image data transmission and imaging system control. This paper achieved this method on the hardware platform and test the network communication speed and make the communication speed compare with the speed of the system based on TCP/IP protocol stack,found that the increase of the speed is more than 4 times.

Synthetic aperture imaging lidar is an active new imaging system, which can offer a finer azimuth resolution than the SAR system. An indoor system of synthetic aperture imaging lidar is given, which is a demonstration about synthetic aperture to image rotating objects. Firstly, the basic principle is introduced. Then, the basic method and key techniques are analyzed. After that an improved system is given with the transmitting and the receiving lens apart from each other which can eliminate the interference efficiently. Finally, the block diagram and the result of imaging system are given, which prove the validity of the system and the feasibility of the synthetic aperture techniques in optical domain.

The aberration field of an optical system with a tilted pupil is explored through expanding the vector expressions of the third-order wavefront aberrations. First, the vector forms of the wavefront aberrations are modified to obtain the aberration expressions with the pupil tilted; full field displays of coma and astigmatism in this situation are given. Then, the third-order aberration formulas with the pupil decentered and tilted simultaneously are derived and discussed. Finally, an example is taken to certify the validity of aberration distribution properties.
