Xinjiang, the largest province region in China,is located in the northwest of China.There are eight countries,such as Kazakhstan etc.that surround around Xinjiang. There are long land border lines and many developable passes. Under the direction of total national development strategy of coastal and border opening, considering the advanced condition of location,the new spatial frontier trade pattern of 'multilevel and all-round position' has initially been formed.That is,to develop westwards market in Middle Asia,to enlarge southwards market in Pakistan and to open up northwards market in Mongolia.The great progress of border opening has been made in Xinjiang.At present, Xinjiang is catching the opportunity to adjust the industrial structure and regional allocation,enhance horizontal economic combination and cooperation,and strengthen the infrastructures construction.Therefore more solid material foundation ofborder opening will be formed for further enlarging.

A tribute to Dr Arnold J.Levine This perspective was written in celebration of Dr Arnold J.Levine's 80th birthday.I chose to write this prospective about restoration of p53 activity in tumors for two reasons:Arnie (as we all know him) has become interested in restoring p53 activity in tumor cells and such a review did not exist.Amie was also my postdoctoral advisor and writing this perspective is just a small tribute for the huge impact he has had on my research career (and that of many others),from supporting me when I left his laboratory for a faculty position before I had even published a paper,to serving as a sounding board for numerous ideas.

Ground control is the science of studying and controlling the behavior of rock strata in response to mining operations.Ground control-related research has seen significant advancements over the last 36 years,and these accomplishments are well documented in the proceedings of the annual International Conference on Ground Control in Mining(ICGCM)[1].The ICGCM is a forum to promote closer communication among researchers,consultants,regulators,manufacturers,and mine operators to expedite solutions to ground control problems in mining[2–8].Fundamental research and advancements in ground control science define the central core of the conference mission.Providing information to mine operators is a priority,as the conference goal is to offer solution-oriented information.In addition,the conference has included innovative technologies and ideas in mining-related fields such as exploration,geology,and surface and underground mining.Many new ground control technologies and design standards adopted by the mining industry were first discussed at ICGCM.Therefore,this conference is recognized as the best forum for introducing new ground control-related research and products.

The doctrine of building“a human community with a shared future”(HCSF)is a Chinese diplomatic strategy in the new era moving closer to the center of global affairs.It includes enriched ideas about international law and the essential elements of institutionalization.The emergence and development of modem international law have revealed the critical importance of the ideas about international law as guidance for institutions.It is necessary and possible to institutionalize the HCSF by setting its ideas as principles of international law.The principles of international law for the HCSF are those of durable peace,universal security,common prosperity,coexistence of different civilizations,and sustainable development.The new five principles of the HCSF are integrated with the existing general principles of international law and Chinese proposals for the new era,which is not only the development of Chinese-initiated Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence but also a new contribution to the contemporary international law.It will be the new guidance to advance the profound changes of international relations unseen in a century for the common interest of mankind.

This article discusses how the Mongol Yuan dynasty served as a model of empire-building for the rulers of the early Ming dynasty. It argues that early Ming emperors and statesmen imagined the Ming empire as a Yuan successor state, and endeavoured to match the Yuan＇s territorial extent and encompass the steppe region. By comparing imperial maps from the eleventh through fifteenth centuries, this article demonstrates that early Ming depictions of empire more closely match those of the Mongol Empire than those of its ＂Confucian＂ predecessor, the Song dynasty. Ming rulers＇ judgments of history further reflect the full incorporation of the Yuan dynasty into China＇s imperial past, and those judgements referenced the Yuan for examples of successful and unsuccessful policy while circumventing its foreign Mongol origins. Thus, Mongol-style martial values and imperial ambitions maintained a core place in Ming strategic and intellectual thought through the first eighty years of Ming rule.

Based on the investigation and analysis of protection and restoration of aquatic ecosystems in rivers and lakes of China, the ideas and measures of restoring aquatic ecosystems were proposed to build healthy aquatic ecosystems of rivers and lakes in China, such as setting scientific and clear goals, improving the standard adopted by wastewater treatment plants, controlling sources of pollutants and intercepting pollutants, collec- tion of blue-green algae, water transfer, dredging, reducing the quantity of blue-green algae, restoring reed wetlands on a large scale, combing dredging and base raise of restored reed wetlands, making full use of microorganisms, and implementing effective management, technology integra- tion and innovation.

The Great Gatsby narrates a symbolist tragedy in a transitional era.It’s ambivalent characterizationand themes find justifications in the writer’s own ideology of two opposed ideas ,and in his efforts to define andjudge subjects of social problems.The ambivalent characterization concerns the writer’s dual response to theprotagonist’s corruption and innocence respectively.Ultimately the writer is convinced that both the corruptionand innocence are justifiable in the morality of his protagonist.Whereas the ambivalent themes dealing withthe American dream attach importance to the social class perspectives and the vision of history,undoubtedlythe writer slides into a compromise with his themes:repudation and approval.Because of the equally strong in-terplay of two opposed ideas,the writer fails to locate a definite position and scale,which results in his imma-ture control in the art of the work.The writer’s characteristic code and achievement are significant becausethey genuinely reveal human being’s fundamental dilemma in social life.

In the world literature,there are many valuable ecological ideas.Nowadays,a growing number of writers in the world literature have begun to pay attention to ecological problems.They use their writings to reflect the severe ecological problems,to express their ecological thoughts,and also to alert readers.In the world literature,we can dig out many philosophical ideas,including the interdependence of man and nature,the reconstruction of the harmonious relationship between man and animal as well as the phenomenon of"spiritual imbalance"in social life.Analyzing these ideas will not only help us understand the creative connotations of the writers,but also provide helpful suggestions to solve real ecological problems.
