The effects of recombinant human G-CSF(rhG-CSF)and retinoic acid(RA)were studied on theproliferation and differentiation of HL-60 cells andhuman acute myeloid leukmic *** effecton granulocyte differentiation was observed whenHL-60 cells and primary acute promyelocyticleukemic cells were cocultured with RA ***-CSF combined with RA increasedmore significantly the percentage of mature cells thanRA alone and greatly increased NBT reductionactivity(P<0.001).These results suggested thatproliferated effect of rhG-CSF on leukemic cells maybe important for inducing differentiation of myeloidleukemic *** this effect might expose the pa-tients to the risk of acute myeloblastic leukemia ifG-CSF was used ***,RA could not onlyrule out the latter situation but retain former merit *** authors suggest that the combined use ofG-CSF with RA is probably a new approach to thetreatment of leukemia.

Praziquantel (PZQ), a widely-used antis- chistosomal drug, has stimulated a number of laboratory and clinical investigations in China, results of which are not widely disseminated in English. Recent investigations on the effect of PZQ against Schistosoma jap onicum were reviewed hereby in order to exchange academic ideas and promote further researches on antischistosomal drugs.

Suppressive effect on tumor cells of high energy shock waves (HESW) has aroused the interest of physicians in recent years. We assessed experimentally the cytotoxie effects of HESW on tumor cells both in vitro and in vivo and determined whether a Chinese domestic lithotriptor is capable of generating effective HESW, which has the potential to break tumor cells, reduce cell viability, retard cell growth, delay doubling time, impair cell attachment and cell clonogenicity. In nude rats, HESW was able to delay tumor growth and reduce tumor size without evidence of metastasis. The nature of HESW in the induction of cell damage and its clinical application need to be further investigated.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the combined effects of photofrin (Pf) Ⅱ and laser irradiation on mice bearing subcutaneous *** Ehrlish ascites tumor cells (1×107) were implanted subcutaneously into the breast area of ICR mice. The tumors, when grew up to 0.55±0.15cm3, was administered of laser irradiation (514.5nm, 112.5mW/cm2 for 11.12 min with a total energy 75J/cm2) after intraperitoneal injection of Pf Ⅱ (5, 7.5, 10 and 15mg/kg body weight) once a day for three successive *** The mortality rate (MR120) in the tumor control was 93.7% and the mean survival time (MST120) was 46.6 days. The best therapeutic effect (50% mortality rate, 53.8% tumor control rate and mean survival time 86 days) was observed in the group treated with 7.5mg of Pf Ⅱ per kg of body weight and total irradiation energy of 75J/cm2 (112.5mW/cm2 for 11.12 min) with 514.5nm argon ion laser *** The effect on the survival rate of tumor cells and synthetic rates of DNA, RNA and protein were obviously inhibited, as the dose of pf Ⅱ and laser irradiation increased.
