hypo-peritectic steels are widely used in various industrial fields because of their high strength,high toughness,high processability,high weldability,and low material ***,surface defects are liable to occur during continuous casting,which includes depression,longitudinal cracks,deep oscillation marks,and severe level fluctuation with slag *** high-efficiency production of hypo-peritectic steels by continuous casting is still a great challenge due to the limited understanding of the mechanism of peritectic *** work reviews the definition and classification of hypo-peritectic steels and introduces the formation tendency of common surface defects related to peritectic *** achievements in the mechanism of peritectic reaction and transformation have been ***,countermeasures to avoiding surface defects of hypo-peritectic steels duiring continuous casting are *** certain points in the continuous casting of hypo-peritectic steels and the development of new techniques to overcome the present problems will be a great aid to researchers.

Research on mold flux for hypo-peritectic steel at high casting speed

Mold fluxes having adaptable properties were developed in the laboratory to solve quality defects, such as depressions and longitudinal cracks when casting hypo-peritectic steel at high casting speed. Firstly, the effect of components on the high basicity mold flux properties was first studied using the orthogonal method. In the scope of the studied content, Li2O has the largest effect on the melting temperature, and the least effect on the viscosity; CaF2 has the largest effect on the viscosity, and the least effect on the melting temperature; Na2O and CaO/SiO2 have no obvious influence on the melting temperature and viscosity. Secondly, two powders （Z1 and Z6） have reasonable viscosity-temperature curves, higher solidification temperatures, and porous structure after solidification, but the crystal property of Z6 is worse than that of Z1, and thus Z1 is more suitable for continuous casting hypo-peritectic steel at high casting speed. Thirdly, a higher basicity of powder, a less free enthalpy of crystal compound, and a lower baffle energy are good for a higher tendentiousness of crystal.

Solidification behavior in the mold region plays an important role in production efficiency and steel *** investigate shell growth within a mold,the sulfur prints of the entire shell thickness profile the meniscus to 100 mm below the mold were obtainedadding FeS tracer into molten steel during bloom continuous casting of hypo-peritectic *** law of shell thickness evolution along mold height and circumference was *** results show that there are three weak regions of solidification,which are in the mold upper part,in the mold lower part,and just below mold exit,possibly resulting periodic fluctuation of air gap between the shell and the mold,the impingement of melt jets on the solidification front,and the decreasing cooling intensity,*** solidification point along casting direction appears at approximately 35 mm below the ***,the solidified shell thickness in the inner side of the mold is a little larger than that in the outer side,and the former and the latter reach 25.5 and 24.3 mm at the mold exit,*** non-uniform shell growth in the inner side of the bloom is provided,while shell thicknesses in the narrow face and the outer side follow relatively regular *** of the mold,the thinnest shells on the transverse section exist in the regions of 60–90 mm and 40–70 mm the corners of the inner and outer sides,respectively,i.e.,the of-corners.
