Background Currently it remains controversial whether intensive control of glucose is required for pediatric hyperglycemia. Few studies are available on the blood glucose control for the infants receiving congenital heart disease operation. However, there are no uniform standards to control hyperglycemmia after congenital heart disease operation. In this study, we determined the ranges and methods of postoperative blood glycemic control in infants with congenital heart disease. Methods Eighty-two infants younger than 6 months of age, who underwent correction of congenital heart disease in our hospital from 06/01/2014 to 06/01/2015, participated in this study. All patients were randomly divided into two groups： group A （insulin control group） and groupB （non-insulin control group）. Each group was randomly divided into three subgroups （A1-A3.B1-B3）. Children in group A were treated using the glycemic control therapy with insulin. Children in group B received a glycemic control therapy without insulin. Femoral vein blood was drew in 72 hours after the operation to check WBC, CRP, lactate, ALT and Cr. The duration of ICU, incidence of lung infection, hypoglycemia and mortality were recorded. Results The differences of Cr ALT, WBC and CRP indexes were statistically significant （P 〈 0.05） in A and B subgroups, but not between the A and B groups （P 〉 0.05）. The ICU stay time of group A2 and B2 was less than that of other groups, but the difference was not statistically significant （P 〉 0.05）. The incidence of pulmonary infection and hypoglycemia in 2 groups was lower than that in A1 and A3 group. The incidence of complications in group B2 was lower than that in B1 group and B3 group, but there was no significant difference （P 〉 0.05）. There was no significant difference between the A and B groups （P 〉 0.05）. Conclusions hyperglycemia can increase postoperative pulmonary infection. Introduction: Refractive disturbances have been observed during hyperglycemia. However, there remains controversy as to the types of disturbances that it induces. Objective: To determine the types of refractive disturbances observed during hyperglycemia in humans. Population and Methods: This was an observational and cross-sectional study with an analytical purpose conducted from July to November 2021. Emmetropia, hypermetropia, and myopia as well as blood glucose levels were compared between day 0 (D0) and day 30 (D30) after initiation of hypoglycemic therapy in 222 people (444 eyes) with recently discovered hyperglycemia (Chi-2;p Results: At D0, the mean of blood glucose was 18.1 mmol/L ± 8.2 vs 6.9 mmol/L ± 3.0 at D30 (p = 0.001). At day 0, 80% (n = 355) of eyes were hypermetropic compared to 73.9% (n = 328) at D30 (p = 0.02). At D0, 14.2% of eyes (n = 63) were myopic compared to 11.3% (n = 50) at D30 (p = 0.02). Refraction improved from 0.75 to 1.5D for 34.5% (n = 18) of hypermetropic eyes and 10.2% (n = 2) of myopic eyes. Conclusion: Our results show that hypermetropia is the most common ametropia during hyperglycemia. Moreover, these data suggest that the normalization of blood glucose improves refraction.

Objective: We adopted the area under the curve (AUC) of oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) as a measure method of the severity of maternal hyperglycemia and investigated its relationship with adverse perinatal outcomes among women with and without gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Research design and methods: This is a retrospective cohort study. Our study group collected the medical records of 15,296 women who received perinatal care in 15 hospitals in Beijing and who delivered from July 1, 2013, to December 31, 2013. And several original articles on this cohort have been published. In this study, we analyze the relationship between AUC and adverse perinatal outcomes, so that in multiple pregnant cases, patients with pre-pregnancy diabetes, hypertension, and abnormal kidney function and those who did not receive a 75-g OGTT were excluded. A Chi-squared test and logistic regression analysis were used to determine the associations. Results: In total, 13,561 women were included. As the AUC of OGTT increased, the prevalence of macrosomia (odds ratio [OR] 1.059, 95% confidence interval [95% CI] 1.029 - 1.090, p hyperglycemia, and women with a high AUC should undergo aggressive management to avoid adverse outcomes regardless of the presence of GDM.

From the Asteraceaes family, Tridax procumbens is a wild species frequently found in fields, meadows and roadsides. It is traditionally used to treat yellow fever, typhoid fever, high blood pressure and diabetes. In this work we used the hydro-ethanolic extract of the leaves and stems of the plant and also the fractions of this extract to determine the preventive and therapeutic activities of the plant against obesity, hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia. The yields of the fractions obtained by decantation of the hydro-ethanolic extract are respectively 0.160% with hexane, 0.073% with dichloromethane, 0.09% with diethyl ether and 0.150% with ethyl acetate. hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia were induced in the rats submitted to a fatty and sweet diet for 28 days. Our results showed a significant increase in glycemia, weight and triglyceride level in rats that were subjected to the diet. On the other hand, the rats treated with the dose of 500 mg/kg of body weight of Tridax procumbens extract during the induction showed a reduction in weight gain and an absence of increase in blood sugar and triglyceride levels. The ethyl acetate fraction of Tridax procumbens extract administered to fatty and hyperglycemic rats at 50 mg/kg of body weight for 14 days did not induce change in the blood sugar and triglycerides level of fatty and hyperglycemic rats. If it seems obvious that the extract of Tridax procumbens prevents hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia, the ethyl acetate fraction does not seem to have a therapeutic effect.

Objective： To determine whether hyperglycemia could aggravate the microvascular damage in ischemic stroke. Methods： hyperglycemia model was made by injection of streptozocin through subcutaneous injection in wistar rats. Using the suture model, the rats were subjected to 3h of focal ischemia and different times of reperfusion, including 6,12,24,48,96h and 7d. TIC dyeing was used to Show the infarction area of rats. The infarctive volume of rats were calculated by computer imaging analysis system;Matrix metalloproteinase （MMP-2） and （MMP-9）were detected by immunohistochemistly and in situ hybridization histochemistly in Wistar rats. Results： The infarctive volume was siginificantly larger in hyperglycemic rats than that of nonhyperglycemic rats. The level of MMP-2, MMP-9 expression in the group of hyperglycemic rats was higher than that of nonhyperglycemic rats. Conclusion： hyperglycemia aggravated the injury of focal ischmia-repeffusion in wistar rats and the higher expression of MMP-2,MMP-9 might be one of the mechanism in aggravation of focal ischemia/repeffusion injury.

Reduced bile duct contractile function in rats with chronic hyperglycemia

The incidence of gallstone is higher in patients with diabetes mellitus than in general popula- tion. It is generally attributed to hypomotility and lowered emptying function of the gallblad- der. In this study, we investigate if chronic hy- perglycemia is correlated with reduced contrac- tile function of the bile ducts in rat. Hypergly- cemic rats were induced by streptozotocin-nic-otinamide treatment. Hyperglycemic rats were sacrificed eight months after induction and bile ducts were removed for the subsequent studies. The bile duct contractility of the normal rats is consistently higher than that of the hypergly- cemic rats. The contractities were measured to be 5.5 ± 0.2 mg vs. 4.2 ± 0.1 mg without CCK stimulation, and 5.5 ± 0.3 mg vs. 7.9 ± 0.4 mg with CCK stimulation, respectively for hypergly-cemic and normal rats. There was no significant difference in plasma CCK concentration in hy- perglycemic rats and normal rats. The expres- sion of CCK-A receptor protein in the bile duct tissue was decreased in hyperglycemic rats compared with that of the normal rats, and it may, at least in part, responsible for a reduced contractility. A reduced bile duct motility may cause bile retention, and may be one of the factors predispose to gallstone formation in type 2 diabetes patients, which is characterized with chronic hyperglycemia.
