An alternative form of energy density demonstrating the severe strain-stiffening in thin spherical and cylindrical shells

The present article investigates an elastic instability phenomenon for internally pressurized spherical thin balloons and thin cylindrical tubes composed of incompressible hyperelastic material.A mathematical model is formulated by proposing a new strain energy density *** the family of limited elastic materials,many material models exhibit ***,they fail to predict severe strainstiffening in a moderate range of deformations in the stress-strain *** proposed energy function contains three material parameters and shows substantially improved stain stiffening properties than the limited elastic material *** model is further applied to explore the elastic instability phenomenon in spherical and cylindrical *** findings are compared with other existing models and validated with experimental *** model shows better agreement with experimental results and exhibits a substantial strain-stiffening effect than the current models.

The present study is focused on the constitutive modeling for the mechanical behavior of rubber reinforced with filler particles.A filler-dependent energy density function is proposed with all the continuum mechanics-based necessities of an effective hyperelastic material *** proposed invariant-based energy function comprises a single set of material parameters for a material subjected to several modes of loading *** model solution agrees well with existing experimental ***,the effect of varying concentrations of filler particles in the rubber matrix is also studied.

Continuum Constitutive Modeling for Isotropic hyperelastic materials

The partial differential equation for isotropic hyperelastic constitutive models has been postulated and derived from the balance between stored energy and stress work done. The partial differential equation as a function of three invariants has then been solved by Lie group methods. With geometric meanings of deformations, the general solution boils down to a particular three-term solution. The particular solution has been applied for several isotropic hyperelastic materials. For incompressible materials, vulcanized rubber containing 8% sulfur and Entec Enflex S4035A thermoplastic elastomer, three coefficients have been determined from uniaxial tension data and applied to predict the pure shear and equibiaxial tension modes. For a slightly compressible rubber material, the coefficients have also been extracted from the confined volumetric test data.

Effect of Skin on Finite Element Modeling of Foot and Ankle During Balanced Standing

Experimental measurements of stresses and strains for lower extremity injuries(LEI) are invasive, and therefore, predictions require physiologically accurate 3D finite element(FE) models of the foot and ankle. In previous models, skin is typically neglected. However, experimental studies have shown that skin is much stiffer than soft tissue. In this study, the material sensitivity of skin on foot arch deformation is investigated. A finite element model of the foot is developed, incorporating bones, soft tissue, ligament, articulating surfaces, plantar aponeurosis, skin and plantar plate. Balanced standing is simulated without skin or with three different skin mechanical properties. By including different skin models, the foot static vertical stiffness, navicular displacement and plantar aponeurosis strain change significantly, when compared with the model without skin. The study shows that skin, showing a much stiffer behaviour than soft tissue, should not be neglected in the foot modelling. Further,the plantar plate considered in this model can give merit to modelling injuries such as plantar plate tearing.
